No cell phones, no internet, no social media, no texting. We just had each other and our music and it was freaking awesome. I'm 63 now and I lived the 80's. It's hard to put into words.
Texas really LOVE the CDN Rockers! When I have had Meetings there, it was The Ladies who asked about certain Bands, and TRIUMPH featuring RIK EMMETT... He SURE gained a Profile of Fan Support! 😂
31 years ago I was there in Devore. It was an amazing day. The field was ROASTING in the hot sun. The colors, the feel, the resonance of so much music in the air, even the smells (dust, suntan oil and pot) had faded over the years, but watching this brought it all rushing back in....vividly. Thanks for posting this.
I've been to some pretty good concerts in my time, though it wasn't until the late 80's that I became an avid concert goer, I'm envious of anyone who was at US fest!!!
I was there too my brother awesome day I will never forget lost my girlfriend in the crowd never saw her again. I was in the service and shipped out a week after this.
@@devildog2328 Oh WOW.. Hey you know a lot of girls were passing out from the heat ...they were dropping like flies during Ozzy...I was center stage about 13 sardines back and we were picking up passed out people ( 9 out of 10 were girls) and we were hand over hand carrying them towards the front of the stage and medical was waiting for them ...heat stroke.... especially if you stood under 5-10 Im 6-1 my friend tugged on me and when I bent down to hear him swear to God it was 20 degrees hotter and hardly any oxygen... Crazy Train just started (3rd Song) and I told little Billy...hang on to the back of my pants and whatever happens don't let go...I just put my head down and started pushing to the left I must have got slugged HARD 25 times by the time we made it through the Sea of humanity Billy had like 40 people hanging on to the back of his pants single file! Mostly girls! Some poor bastard went up and over us ...my head him mid back and for some reason he didn't go down he went up summersaults! ✌️🤷! Thanks for your service! ✌️
Class of 79 here... Agree so much. The music was so freaking great then. And the thing was...that we knew it. And nothing else matches the beautiful girls of the 80s... Plastic surgery wasn't a thing then. Wow... To go back for just a few hours...
I caught the show Day On the Green along with Journey, Eddie Money, Bryan Adams and Night Ranger !! And kicked it off with 750microgms. One full day of fun!
@@ernestgrawcock5723 I went to A Day on the Green with Cheap Trick Journey AC DC BOC and Ted Nugent... Every Band was awesome! BOC had a 35 foot tall Godzilla on stage! 1978 In 82 outside in Southern California with a full moon rising behind the stage Neil Young sitting on a stool with his harmonica and Acoustic for almost 3 hours and 🍄🍄🍄🍄 it was bitchen with the strings of freeway lights in the background against a midnight blue sky Irvine Meadows 🤔✌️
I loved these guys when I was back in high school.....and still do. I graduated high school in 1982, what a great time and great memories. This world has turned to crap since then!!!
This is probably weird coming from a kid that's only 17 but Triumph is my favorite band and this is my all time favorite song! Their music has changed me so much and I am super stoked that I graduate at the same venue that this was filmed 31 years to the day! May 29th! Triumph has changed me not only in my musical career but also in life! Big thanks to this band!
That’s what 80s music does to you.The absolute best years to grow up in.Everybody loved everyone, helped each other, and always jammed to the greatest music of the70s & 80s.
The following year 84 i got to see Triumph at the American Rock Festival at Timber Ridge outside of Kalamazoo Michigan. They got to headline a pretty incredible lineup. Ratt Accept Night Ranger Motley Crue Quiet Riot Ozzy and Triumph. Its by far the biggest concert I ever attended. There is a great clip on RU-vid called "Shout at the festival" that'll show you the massive crowd that grazed the slopes of the (Timber ridge ski resort) mountain that wonderful weekend. It also has incredible interviews of all the bands as well as showing Vince Neil climbing the scaffolding 100 ft over the stage.
What a magical weekend that was. Over 40 years ago. Most of us are now grand parents, some have passed away, but for one weekend, all 300,000 of us had the time of our lives.
Because it's dubbed. Tracks from the studio recording is laid on top of the video. Where do you think the keyboard sounds are coming from when Levine plays bass?
Rock On!!! If the Rolling Stone magazine hated a band, it usually meant they were really good. In the case of Triumph, it meant they were really great!
I woke up one day and the 80s and all their great times and music were gone Thanks for capturing a fleeting moment in time and sharing it with us If I could do it all over again I would 😂 ❤❤❤
Well said my friend! I attended US FEST ‘82. What an experience. Great to be able to relive those moments watching the videos and The Power of THE MUSIC! Rock on
@@chriss2452 ok, now it makes sense. Still, dont care. These US Festival performances have become the definitive versions of the spongs to me. Fight The Good Fight is amazing!
@@monkyman404 I agree, both the sound and the video footage quality is amazing! So much better than much of what came after, in the 90s and even up until today. Just a little too good to be only tapped from the live soundboard, but hey, I'd be happy to be wrong!
One of my all-time favorite songs!! The early 1980's produced some of the greatest music ever, not to mention Triumph, one of the most underrated bands.
I remember driving down the highway and cranking up lay it on the line, and man that was just the coolest feeling on a Friday night all pumped up for a good night. they made great music. I got to see them when they started out and went to see them quite a few times. rush as well.
Rik and the band were killer on this day, no doubt. But the sound man for this Triumph set just all out ruled! Its like he said: "Thank GOD...some real musicians."
This was truly a magical era. I was 16 years old during the summer of 1983. I wanted so badly to go to the US Festival. But I live in Michigan, so no go. I did see Triumph twice back in the day. 1982 on the Allied Forces tour and 1986 on the Sport of Kings tour. One of the greatest live bands ever!
May I asked why didn't you go the very next year to the "American Rock Festival" at Timber ridge outside of Kalamazoo Michigan. I was there it was absolutely epic. Ratt Accept Night Ranger Motley Crue Quiet riot Ozzy and Triumph In that order to be exact. 250k fans showed up on that wonderful unforgettable weekend.
@@joekarkut8169 I remember that festival. My step-brother and several friends went to it. I can't remember why I had to miss it. But I did see all of those bands throughout the 1980s (some multiple times) though I've never seen Accept. I saw Monsters of Rock in 1988 at the Pontiac Silverdome. (Van Hagar, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica, Kingdom Come). All for $25.00. Those were the days!
One of the best bands of our time! I graduated form HS in 1983 and these guys were smoking hot!! They still are and I put them up there with Rush! Great, great band!
my favorite Triumph song, now 53 and this always brings back such powerful, memorable and positive emotions of hope and dreams as a teen in the 80’s with music as my bible and guide, and of course music still is to this day and will be till I pass on to the next realm of existence.
..saw this 'history of Triumph' on TV; and was surprised NOT to hear Magic Power played during '83s US Fest segment; so, I go digging thru my stuff, and found a cassette tape of 'Masters of Metal: Wrecking Havoc-1975-1985, Vol 2; THEN I can't find a cassette tape PLAYER that works; then the wifey suggests good ol' RU-vid, and here I am rockin out like its 1983 again!! ..after all, I was there ,and wanted to hear it again, and again w/ lyrics too..play on!!!
..got like FOUR different systems with cassette players on them; yet not ONE player works, go figure; now to try to find a replacement, one that I can afford too...stay tuned on that one...BFN...JR
im sure he worked hard on his skills but he sure has the gift as well , when you combine the 2 you have this quality of player, singer and writer what a gift
I was there with some Van Halen fans who had never heard of Triumph. I had, and I told them that they were a great band, and after they played the best set that day, they all agreed. They were also all pist, as were many others, that Van Halen kept us waiting nearly 2 hours after the Scorpions to take the stage, with Davd Lee then acting like a drunken fool. At least Eddie was in fine form, but Triumph, Judas Priest, and the Scorpions were the best bands that day.
@@mrwintboc You have good recall of that day - it sure was a great! I had similar experiences with random people all around me. I must have heard 15-20 times "...these guys are unbelievable - can't believe I never heard of them..."
I was here too, graduated from HS the weekend before. I was 18 and just this time of my life was a blast. I still look back at this time and so grateful to be around durong the 80's. It was the best
I was there and the festival had a 400,000 watt stereo sound system and it sounded incredible! A flawless performance that was one of the best that I've ever seen!!
I've now seen this video dozens of time. It is truly amazing the sound and tightness of this extremely talented trio. What an underrated band that all music lovers should embrace.
I wish it was 1983 again. The music was awesome, the people were fun, and everybody had a good time. I saw Triumph at the Cincinnati Gardens in the mid-80's. The best 3-piece... If they can't get your heart and arms pumping... no one can! :)
Soo miss those days of "mega sized" stadium and festival concerts. Doubt any of us nor any future generations will ever get to enjoy such great times. Always fun, always safe, everyone partied, got along and made great memories!
I've heard this song a million times throughout the decades. Why have I never heard this particular ending. It wasn't on my cassettes, cds or lps. Im glad I heard this cause I never heard a better close to a tune than this is. It made a great song even greater. I actually got a little emotional over it. What a voice. He still carries that familiar quality when he sings today.
I’m 60 now I was 17 teen when I seen Triumph in concert…sometimes you don’t remember but I remember them…a little grainy 😂 but that’s my fault. They were so good 😊 …man I miss sometimes the feeling of being young again but it’s only a feeling of then and it’s now and to me they still ROCK 🤘🏻
Most inspiring song for a musician ever. I can sing this song in my head voice and to think Rik is doing all that in normal singing voice is mind boggling. Merci beaucoup les boys, saw you live twice in Quebec City (Thunder, and Kings tour).
After 30 years, when Iisten this song, I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free, I got the magic power of the music in me. Thank you Triumph for all these years of magic power.
+Bill Nill Just because Page was the first doesn't mean he was the best, Emmett on his worst days (of which there are none) is FAR superior musically than Page on his best days!
i remember walking from the camping area to the venue with a herd of people and there was a guy standing off of the fire road singing acappella Magic Power to all of us walking by. Later that day i watched Triumph from center stage probably 30 or 40 yards from the stage, it was Heaven and i became a born again rocker!
One amazingly talented and brilliant band! Being Canadian, like Rush, Chilliwack etc. they got shortchanged! But to music and rock lovers across the world they remain tops and unforgettable!!
Reminds me of 9th grade, I saw them live at magic mountain in Valencia CA with my best friends, I will never ever forget it so special ...... the meories are so safely tucked inside of me......a beautiful version....enjoy friends.......
I was at the US Festival in ‘83. I was a young Marine stationed in Camp Pendleton and me and a couple of buddies drove up there to see it. Awesome memories!
I was privileged enough to see these guys on their Sport of Kings Tour and it was one of the best shows I’ve EVER seen and I’ve been to over a hundred shows,Triumph forever#AlliedForces
Saw these guys in my hometown a few years before this. I was always jealous of Rik Emmett. What a talent! I was always waiting for that voice to crack. It didn't help when I met Gil Moore and he told me Rik had perfect pitch and was "on" EVERY FREAKING NIGHT!!..still is, to this day
THANKS for posting this! Going thru a rough patch & have probably played this song, reminisced, & watched the PURE joy on the faces a thousand times in the last couple months. Even reminds me of when I was on my own at 17, my own apt, living on tips & taking a bus to finish H.S. - exact words in my soul! Now 55 w/ 3 college degrees & STILL I LONG for days gone by. Simpler times -- a radio by my lonely bed after a hard day -- hoping the DJ would play my favorite song.....
Music was so good. 1980s were so much better days. Not just music but life in general. World gone beyond insane now. Nothing like we have ever seen before.
I shared this day with the love of my life. We have since then, divorced. We were married for 25 years. The US Festival was in our 1st year being married. We were young and full of life, and this concert was a snapshot of our time in L.A. (82-91). My old band from K.C. (Smokin Ash) came out from K.C. and parked their bus in my front yard in Burbank. We all went to the concert the next day. We sat about right in the middle of the venue, being shot by water canons periodically (not often enough). A beautiful day, spent with a beautiful woman. I will never forget it. Van Halen headlined the show later that day, after the Scorpions tore it up. The Scorpions had the Blue Angels do a fly over right before they came on stage. The best entrance I've ever seen a rock band make, that is until David Lee came in on a space ship to start their set. VERY FRIGGIN COOL DAY!
I'm glad Triumph had the foresight to have professional cameras and cameramen to record this. A lot of early 80's live videos look like they're from the Dark Ages. This looks and sounds sensational.
I remember three songs growing up, when k-she played them in the middle of the night, while sound asleep, I would wake up for! 1)Sammy Hagar (Run for your life) 2) The Sherbs (No turning back) 3)Triumph (Magic FREAKING Power)! Thank you Lord or letting me grow up when I did!!
