Good for you. Definitely a surprise for me. I had no intention of getting a ride today. Didn't even realize it was the day!

Thank you. I think that may have been her longest ride in the car. She doesn't even subscribe to my channel!

Great site. Just subscribed. Cool car you have. Great restoration. I have a 1969 Mk 3 plagued with missfires and non starting after a run out. I have electronic ignition and have rebuilt the carbs from scratch with new needles, jets, butterflies etc and lavish quantities of carb cleaner in every oriface etc. I think but am not certain that the issue is fuel vapourisation in the float bowls. I can drive 30 miles on a cold day with no issues but usually use the car top down on hot sunny days when North Lancashire allows. Think Seattle in late Autumn 12 months of the year :-) It is never driven though the winter on our heavily salted roads. I am more and more convinced that the misfires then cutouts are caused by evaporated petrol (gas) in the two float bowls of the carbs just above a red hot exhaust manifold and made worse by parking up at a shop or layby when the car won't start. I have swapped out my coil with a friend with a Land Rover and it runs forever on his 2.3 4 cyl petrol. . I am going to experiment with avgas and high octane fuels as our basic UK fuel now contains a lot of ethanol with it's lower evaporation point. I might also remove all air filters, adjust the mixture and maybe just run with trumpets. Alternatively I have toyed with the idea of taking off the twin carbs and putting on a Zenith Solex single 1.5" with the adapted 1500 America spec inlet manifold to keep the fuel further from the carbs. Did you experiment with any of this when you had your running issues? There are known problems with vapourisation and heatshields are available to protect the carbs.

Sorry... "keep the fuel further from the exhaust manifold"

Hi, Ed. Glad you found my channel! I did not experiment with any fuel vaporization (think you spelled it wrong ;). My problems were right from the get-go, not after any prolonged operation so it wouldn't have gotten hot enough to cause an issue. It does get warm enough here to potentially have the problems during a long drive, but I haven't had any as yet. When I was having issues at the beginning of last driving season, I believe it ended up being some gunk in the jets but I did go so far as to replace the coil, new plugs, convert to an electronic ignition and all of that. Never did find a smoking gun, but after I cleaned the heck out of the carbs again, my problems went away any haven't returned. Thanks for watching!

It's nice, but I try to avoid it during the season. Well, I might do a drive by to show off, but I don't go down there otherwise

She looks and sound great. A little rattle is a 60 year old car telling you she need your attention.

@roundtailrestoration 5 месяцев назад
Well, I guess she needs a lot of attention because there are quite a few rattles! I need to adjust my bonnet cones, though, so I think that's what that sound was.

A great day to own a convertible! I’ve been looking back on your videos of doing the seats on your Spit as I’m doing my own now. Did you have to do any sheet metal repair on the seat backs? Thanks.
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 5 месяцев назад
One of the seats was broken where the seat back attaches to the base. Looked like just a stress crack from years of use. I welded it back up. That was it, though.

Lol, I know, right! I was on my way back home when I thought "wonder if it's drive your Triumph day today" and it was. Had no plans to drive Dorothy today.

Last year we had cold and snow , so with this year it was sunny and 6 Celsius so I was out for my drive as well but the top was up as it was still cool. For next year put the 10th of Feb on the calendar , Sir John Black's birthday.
