Back on the #TriumphSpitfire #ProjectCar and I've got hold of a new set of wheels for it. I'm really pleased with how this has turned out, now the car looks historically correct for a 1960's Triumph Spitfire Mk3 . There's still a long way to go with restoration of this little beauty but this is really changing the look of the car for the better

@@SteveDentonClassics Yes, brought here because my late father had a blue 1967 Spitfire Mk3 which he bought in '68 and drove with my mum from London to Naples for a holiday. On the way home, they misjudged the Calais sailing times and had to drive all night to get back to the ferry, Also the fan belt snapped and he fixed it with a pair of my mum's tights.

Cheers mate, I think it's the lacquer making them look so shiny finish. The'll dull down in time, but I'm really pleased with them. Much better then 70's wheels on a 60's car

Cheers Andy, I did my TR6 wheels too a few years ago, very satisfying job isn't it, but the the Rostyle hub cubs you can't see my paintwork on them. And after years of taking the hub covers on and off them they are scratched to hell now I really need to give them a lick of paint again at some point

looks right snappy there...the car looks great...I like that white....I painted mine black some odd years ago...but that white really pops...I might have to revisit that...and of course only a real mechanic can wear white and not get it very dirty....lol great job mate....cheers!!!

Cheers mate. I know what you mean, there a number out there that go either wire wheels, as I was going to too, or the alloy wheel path, but I wanted to be historically accurate with the look, and I'm really pleased with the results

I have a 71, British racing green Spitfire with silver wire wheels. The work you did looks good but I think wire wheels are an absolute must for a sports car, unless the car is modified with much wider tires. Hang onto the wire wheels.
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 года назад
Cheers mate 👍🏻 I’ve always thought BRG suits Spitfires well and to have yours with wires too, sounds like the perfect combination. I do really like wire wheels, the one I showed in the video was borrowed off a friends car. It’s just practical thing at the moment, as I need to spend money in other areas so steels just work out a bit cheaper for now
@johndavey72
@johndavey72 4 года назад
Absolutely period old boy, rather like your overalls! I could teĺl with those masterful strokes that you've had years of experience with rattle cans! I reckon if you spent half an hour rehanging the drivers door that would also transform the look. Those wheels are definitely the correct chose and for the money, it's a no brainer! Are the sills that bad? They look deceptively good in the video. I also think your practical enough to do them yourself!
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 года назад
Cheers John, I'm really pleased with the results that I've achived with the wheels. As for the sills, they have a bit of filler hear and there in them, and the floor pan on the passenger side has had a patch welded into it. I'm more than capable of doing it. Welding is something I love doing, and at work I do a far bit of it. But its really down to the size of the garage is too small to do that sort of job, and there no electric at the garage either. So it's more practical just to send the car to someone else to get new sills done

@SteveDentonClassics 4 года назад
Cheers Tush, they are getting a bit rare, and in all honestly I'm kinda glade now after all the positive responses to them that I did go for the 1960's steel wheels over the wire wheels. As for the overalls, well I'm going for a more period feel with my videos from now on, got to look the part 😉

NOT SURE M8 Might grow on me , but im real stock and how it left the factory
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 года назад
I think they are quit striking at the moment as the paint is still very shiny due to the lacquer, but they'll dull down in time. It is historically accurate to a mk3 to have them steel wheels with hub cab, but like what you say it's something that you just gotta let grow on you

Forty quid for rattle cans, blimey!!!!! Get yourself a £99.00 compressor complete with spray gun from LIDL. Worth their weight in gold!!!

@tomcollier2444
@tomcollier2444 4 года назад
@@SteveDentonClassics Only bug bare, it'll come with euro type air connectors. fine if you buy air tools from the likes of LIDL with euro connectors. I have an air chisel and ratchet as well as the kit gun. Not a major problem though. If you acquire none euro tools it's just a mater of flopping one female end over to the appropriate fitting and away you go. For the money, they're pretty good. The kit gun looks a bit rough around the edges but it works surprisingly well. I've heard of people actually putting top coat and lacquer on with good results. Main advantage though, you can pile so much more paint on at a reasonable cost once you have access to paint shop supplies over those watery cans. TBH, I'd recommend a little compressor over an expensive socket set for example every time, though that's just my opinion!
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 года назад
Not at all, I value all opinions. But your right with the water paint you get those days. It's more shiny, but it's not as tough as good old 2K paint. I'll certainly be looking into it. I've got so many rattle cans knocking about I really need to have a sort out at some point

The steel wheels are terrible....You had a set of dunlop steels on it with the small holes...All you needed to do was buy new black centre caps & paint the wheels...
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 года назад
The steel dunlop drill hole style wheels that where on it we're off a 1970's mk4 or 1500 and we're wrong for a 1960's built Spitfire. As my Spitfire is a 1960's mk3 it would have been fitted with slotted off white coloured steel wheel with chrome hub caps that I've fitted to it or wire wheels from the factory
