Is the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro the best version of the Triumph Tiger you can buy? With there being various 900 and 1200 models in the Tiger range it can be hard to decide which Tiger to buy.
From the more road focused GT models, to the more off road biased Rally models with the 21 inch front wheel and longer travel suspension, there is definitely benefits to each bike. All models are top of the range adventure motorcycles, and the 1200 models are competing to beat the BMW R1250 GS, some consider to be the ultimate adventure motorcycle.
So is the Tiger 1200 Rally Pro the best of the bunch?

Great review, and very honest. I’ve got the Rally Explorer, but I am 6’5”, so run on the tall setting. After a software update to cure the stalling and cold start issue, which I noticed at the start of the video, it really is a great bike. Don’t notice the handlebar vibes at all, must be used to it!! Thank you👍

Many thanks I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed the review 👍 Yup for someone of your height the bike makes complete sense, you can handle the height much more comfortably! I assumed the cold start issue was a battery problem, but I guess not. Cheers

Another great review. I really like these bikes and would probably have one over the GS, although I think it would be the GT Pro for me. The colour choices are better on the rally, but I've still prefer the road focus, lower seat height... and having faffed around cleaning spoked wheels on my last couple of bikes, the alloys on the GT would suit me too.
@redangrevival

Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍 I would struggle to choose between this or the GS, think would have to wait for the new 1300GS! Yes I think when it came to handing over the money I would go with the more road focused GT Pro model. Just more practical etc... Cheers

Sadly this kind of bike is not a "one size fits all" solution as they are too tall for some and slightly overweight too but they make for formidable companions for travel, commuting and pretty much everything else you can throw at them. This Tiger is a great example of that. I like it! Cracking video! Cheers, Lupo
@redangrevival

Thanks so much Lupo I appreciate it 👍 Yes they really are very tall and big bikes! I must say having ridden it now I think the Tiger 900 Rally Pro maybe my favourite. Much more manageable size etc... Cheers

Woo it's a leggy beast! Mind you, you seemed comfortable on it. Triumph do make stable bikes so I guess it's capable off road but pickupability is very important for laning and it would be a fall and a heft getting it up again. On road it goes fast, what more do you need? 😁
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Год назад
Exactly right, it really is a tall bike! I found it quite intimidating to ride off road. Picking it up would be a nightmare. On road it is very impressive, fast and comfortable. Much more agile than the Africa Twin.

Great review. I was close to getting the gt model. 2 things put me off. 1. Panniers I didn't like because of the scaffolding and one is bigger than the other due to the exhause The skinny back tyre. I understand them on the rally models but could of put slightly thicker tyres on the road focused models.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Год назад
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the review 👍 Yes I am never a fan of scaffold pannier racks, just a massive eye sore! I was very impressed with the handling of both bikes, not too sure how much the skinnier rear tyre affects it.

@simonchilli2088 Год назад
Nice video RedAng. 10 litres of petrol Google says weighs 7.02 kg. So the 30 litre tank on the other model you mentioned when full would make the bike 21.6 kg heavier. That on top of the already heavy bike weight.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Год назад
That is a very interesting fact! Yes the Rally Explorer model is just way too big in my opinion. Especially for off road riding.

Nice review again mate. While I agree, regarding the better looks of the rally models(including better paint) I’d have to go for the GT pro. For the 19” front, less fork dive,, better road handling and better tyre choice. In black..of course.👍🏻

I'd like to know other opinions on this. I have the Rally Explorer. When I go offroad I don't fill up the tank. I usually have less than 20 litres on board. Now if you spec up the Rally Pro with things like upper crash bars then exactly how much heavier is the Explorer? Is it enough to put you off on the model with more standard equipment. I'm no offroad expert but I have taken my bike on two pretty tough long roads so far with all sorts of hazards and in my opinion the bike is incredible.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Год назад
I suppose if you are putting upper crash bars etc... on the Rally Pro you would probably put them on the Explorer as well, so this sort of still keeps the weight difference relevant. Also think protection bars would be more necessary on the explorer model! Also for off roading I would personally worry about breaking those lovely mirrors on the explorer. However that is not to say it is not a great bike off road, just generally the lighter the bike the better off road.
@ADV-Rider-Dude
@ADV-Rider-Dude Год назад
@RedAng Revival The Explorer comes with upper crash bars. I'm also protecting my mirrors by replacing the useless stock handguards with Barkbusters. I'm keen to know the real difference in weight once you have speced up the pro. What I do know is that once speced up then the cost of the bike is very close to the Explorer but of course there are items on the Explorer that cannot be added to the pro.

Welcome back Angus. Too big, too heavy, too tall, too many vibes, too expensive. If you dropped it you would never pick it up without the help of 2-3 people. God only knows what Triumph were thinking getting rid of their really nice smooth characterful triple engines they have been famed for. I presume they want to chase KTM as this new engine sounds like it wants to be a twin but without all the character and smoothness of one. The 900 engine is a more manageable bike, smaller, lighter, more manoeuvrable but still has this T plain crank engine. It didn't seem very involving when I rode the 900 GT Pro. Certainly didn't feel like a triple engine. Didnt' like it. However do agree with you that the Rally Pro models do look nice with the spoked wheels. My choice is the KTM SA 1290 with a lower PowerParts seat meaning shorties like me 29-30" inside leg can almost flat foot it. Sat on one about two weeks and it felt far less intimidating than I thought it would be, unlike this huge 1200 Rally Pro which I have also sat on, twice now. Also the KTM engine is so much better than this vibey T plain crank triple from Triumph. They should go back to producing triple engines as they were famed for. Ditch this T plain crank. See you still have your chord, rather dirty now, holding your rucksack shoulder straps in place across your front. ATB.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Год назад
Many thanks and it is good to be back. Yes about time for a new rucksack really haha! Its got character though 👍 I do agree after riding this 1200 model I think the 900 Rally Pro is the sweet spot in the range. I rode the Tiger 660 yesterday and now that is a great traditional Triumph Triple, much nicer than the T Plane crank engines. The KTM SAS is a freakishly great bike to ride and the engine is lovely. I would have that over this Tiger! Cheers
@alexmorgan3435
@alexmorgan3435 Год назад
@@redangrevival I was told by the dealer when I rode the Tiger 900 GT Pro that if want the traditional Triumph triple engine and riding 'experience' then consider the Tiger 850S. But if the budget had no limit then for me it would be a KTM 1290 SA S or R, probably the S as mostly I ride on the road. Sorry just not a GS fan. I realise that they are great bikes but they don't do anything for me. Would also consider the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT Pro, the newer one with TFT screen. That is a triple engine iirc? You will probably correct me as you have ridden them all! Shall look out for your Tiger 660 review. ATB Angus

Looks nice but why would anyone want to take a bemoth like that off road. A nice 250 two stroke is the perfect off road bike. Triumph should have kept making the 1050 sport - far better looking and a better road bike.
