Story time of how I solved a variator error on the CP Bourg Perfect binder. I have not decided what to look into on the VAC 100. Maybe a solution will come to me in my sleep.

Haha, wall graphic turned out looking great! I agree with your decision to run things until they break. Makes it sooo much easier then trying to chase down the root problem. Thanks for the videos Dan, keep up the great content.

With the booklet maker issue.....try evening out your 2 towers as in a 6 on one and 6 on another instead of it being a front tower heavy setting.....it could be the overlap when the tower 1 drops onto tower 2,that sensor at the exit of the tower when it sends up to the bookletmaker will be the one tripping it out,i run a VAC1000-A / SPF200L Bookletmaker and my demonstrator advised me to keep the towers as evenly set as possible.....You are an absolute beast for running all of those machines at once

@Just A Printer. Sir, is there the remotest possibility that you have the pile height sensors in the VAC100 tower no.1 in the landscape feed position? There are two positions for these sensors. They should be pushed back towards the drive-side of the machine for regular portrait/upright format sheets. You just have to lift them up slightly and they can be slid across. For landscape sheets, there is a set of plastic stand-off guides for the back of the feeder shelves and you move the pile height sensors forward towards the operator's side to match the new location of each pile. This brings the stream of sheets into a more central position in the tower and under the suction wheels. It may be that as you run so many sheets, the feeders are OK until the sheets get in "synch" and trip out the tower. Also as the sheets exit the tower, there maybe a sensor that scans the paper flow before the book enters the stitcher. This sensor is moveable too for portrait and landscape booklets. Might be worth checking that it is in the correct position for portrait - back towards the drive side of the machine. If through ink weight, waves/ripples in the paper stock etc. the trailing edge of the collated book flicks up, the machine will trip out. Begs the question, did you buy the Horizon system new? Because you get on-site training when you do. Good luck in finding the fault anyway.
@justaprinter
@justaprinter 3 года назад
Oh may, I think you are correct. I do have the sensors in the wrong position. I'll have to move the sensors to the outside. Thanks for this and all the other information you shared!

@Just A Printer. Hope that you solved the trip out problem. I had another thought and you may already know/do this. Do you cross-link the feeder bins? So say you have a stitched job of 16pp. self - cover, which is 4 x 4pp sheets. The system I used to operate had a function where you could load bins 1 and 2 with the cover sheet, bins 3 and 4 with the pp3 (bottom right hand corner) sheet , bins 5 and 6 with the pp5 sheet and finally bins 7 and 8 with the pp7 sheet. As the bin would run out, the bin below would start up and continue feeding. So for your operation with minimal staff (just your good self!) it means that you get reduced down time for loading the bins and you go to the feed end less times. I can't remember if some special software had to be fitted during the original machine build, but it may be part of standard equipment on Horizon VAC 100 collator towers. Maybe worth checking if this function is on your machine. Keep up your good work. You and yours stay safe and well.

@@markmiwurdz202 Yes, I do have that function. I have used it before and it is a big time saver. I need to do that more often! Makes me feel really productive. :)

I just got back from dealing with a Home reference issue with our Horizon Stitchliner.... Above my paygrade as we are not getting an error. You should have a maintenance screen which will gives codes and will put you in a direction. What I can tell you is watch the wires on these machines. I have repaired more than one wire issue due to Zipties too right and pinched the wire. Otherwise check and clean connections, and start wiggling wires. One thing for sure is it will leave you on the side of the road at one point (not lol....)

I know. Not looking forward to the day that I cannot fix it.

Another thing to try if you are able would be on jobs where you aren’t using all the bins, take turns running with one bin empty on the first tower and cycle thru the bins. Perhaps you will see the problem more prominent within one bin if it goes away when bypassing a certain bin.

Great idea! Thanks, I'll try that!

Intermittent issues are the worst! I have one with my printer. I run an KM Accuriopress C6100 that's attached to a Datacard MX6100 for insurance card issuance. In the middle of a job, the printer will start over from near the beginning of the job. Our Datacard technician says he has no idea what is causing it, whether it is the printer that is printing from memory or the machine controller that is re-sending the data. It is completely unpredictable when it happens.

Does someone have any idea why my sheets turn around when they arrived at the base of the tower ?

Hello dan, I have a problem with a bin #6 of a VAC-100m tower bin # 6 goes up but does not stop going up as if it did not detect the sensor and I checked the sensor, the motor, the gears and they are fine. This problem happened to you.

Whenever I have had this error, it was due to the belt that moves the stations and that it is on the side that you have attached to the wall ... if it does not suck the sheets it is broken or loose .. if, as is your case, sheets enter but the error jumps It is because it does not cycle correctly and the sensor detects that it has not cycled properly. try to open and tighten the belt using the tensioner at the top. I think that's your problem. I feel my English, greetings from Spain.

@@justaprinter Hi Dan, I'm glad the problem has been solved for now. I was with that machine for a few years and many millions of staples and I have completely disassembled and reassembled it, so almost all its faults are known to me. A pleasure to help you and if you have any new problem, do not hesitate to contact me. Greetings from Spain.

From what I saw I'd check if it has a sensor for the vacuum and thinks it's not getting enough suction.
