Very nice demonstration. This will be my third year using these, and they are much better than the LED lights sold at box stores. I still have quite a bit of incandescents in the display, too. These are quite pricey, so I always keep them stored in the original boxes, when not in use. Yes, I look forward to when they release twinkle bulbs!

When I was 13 back in 1963, I made my mother buy a silver tree. You were supposed to use a "color wheel" to light it, but it looked lame to me. So I used C7 twinkle lights with a spinning topper. The effect was dazzling.

My grandmother gave me about 8 25 bulb string of USA GE bulbs...D14;s D15's & D27 bulbs. Nothing to this day compares to them to this day except holiday bright lights blue LED bulbs. I fell in love with these bulbs last year, and I ended up getting 4 more boxes of the multi-color jewel tone with their darker cobalt blue during their "blue" presale. I know they said it was a mistake, but I think these darker blue bulbs are so much better looking. I really wished they kept them like that. Tru Tones are Great. I do a 10-12' fresh cut tree and generally use about 225 C7s on it. With incandescent it pulled a bit more than 1500 watts, had to split it over 2 circuits. At today's electric rate it cost about $1 to light is for 4 hours. Last year I splurged and bought 125 Tu Tone C7s and 25 off brand from Amazon. This year I bought 50 more Tru Tone bulbs for an entire LED tree. Doing the math I'll go from1500+watts to about 100 watts no more space heater drying my tree out and I can light it for 8 hours for $0.16! Plus it looks indistinguishable from the old incandescent!

The strands that I bought at yard sale are old style vintage with the old style bulbs. I replaced all of the old incandescent bulbs with led bulbs. Led bulbs cut down on electric bill especially when running thousands of lights, but always liked the old style stranded parallel thermal green wires versus the newer style of wires that have 3 wires running parallel loosely.

@@jaystus I haven't bothered lighting the house before, as we have a typical 70s split entry with the most boring roof line. But this year we had a 6x12 front porch added with a gable end facing the street. I had them add two outlets under the porch roof so I can just plug in and run from there. I'm going to add a zip plug to the string on the porch roof to tap off to run a string along the eaves.
@teslatrooper85
@teslatrooper85 8 месяцев назад
There is actually a difference between flasher bulbs and twinkle bulbs. Flasher bulbs cut the current when they turn of, twinkle bulbs short the filament out. Flasher bulbs flash the whole string with one flasher bulb, twinkle bulbs flash individually - but they influence each other slightly. When one twinkle bulb is off the other bulbs see more voltage and are slightly brighter.
@jaystus
@jaystus 8 месяцев назад
Thanks, for the clarification. yes, I definitely meant twinkle. Hopefully they can figure it out.
@gorak9000
@gorak9000 7 месяцев назад
That's only true with mini lights which are wired in series. All of the C7/C9 bulbs are wired in parallel and all take 120V directly - there's no "flasher bulb" for c7/c9 strings that flash the whole string unless you plug the whole string into something that flashes it

Until the C7s randomly, and slowly twinkle they don't have the same charm as the vintage. Getting the color and warmth correct is a damn fine start, mind you, but the C7s must twinkle, slowly, randomly, and with the same fade-in/fade-out. Especially at the price being charged for these, they ought to twinkle and take out the trash.

I've gotten into programmable LEDs and doing a huge show sequenced to music outside, but there's something nostalgic and timeless with the "old-school" bulbs even though they're now LED. My tree inside is still 100% incandescent lights - both mini lights and c7's
@jaystus
@jaystus 7 месяцев назад
Same here on the nostalgic part. I would like to someday to something programmable. These should work I think depending on the controller. I do use Twinkly lights too. Those turn off and the trutone stay on all night.
@gorak9000
@gorak9000 7 месяцев назад
@@jaystus Twinkly is kinda neat, but also really expensive for what you get. Once you get into programmable, it's easy to get into thousands and thousands of pixels, and every year you want to add more, but that also means changing your sequences to add in the new stuff. It's a LOT of work, especially if you do sequences from scratch. Most people just buy their sequences and you end up with the same sequences / songs in every programmable show you go look at. And a lot of the music that people sequence too is not really traditional christmas music either - too much wub wub
@jaystus
@jaystus 7 месяцев назад
@gorak9000 some I see are basically concerts. Very impressive though. I just have a few sets of Twinkly on a few bushes. One set the last 3 years. They are expensive. @gorak9000
@gorak9000 7 месяцев назад
@@jaystus XLights is free / open source. It's become the de-facto standard in the sequenced light community. I think there's still a few holdouts using one of the other packages like Vixen, but not many. XLights is pretty simple to figure out the basics, but can be challenging to get from idea to figuring out how to implement it in XLights when you get into more complex effects. Just note that when you first start, there's a button on the toolbar which enables / disables actual output to light controllers (vs just simulating on screen) - It took me FOREVER to find that button when I first started, and was wondering why I wasn't getting any data out to any of my controllers. Once you get bigger, you'll want to run your sequences from a dedicated controller not directly from XLights, so that's why there's a button to disable the output in XLights.

the string supplied by trutone is not your "normal cable". Your explanation minimizes, TruTone's efforts in perfecting nostalgia from a bye gone era. Tru-tone, went to great lengths to make strings look retro pre 1965. True Tone strings are twisted pair with red and green or two tone green twisted pair. . 90% of Lights strings after1965 , the sockets were affixed to lamp cord 2 wires molded together. By 1970 , maybe less than 10% of the strings were made like this and by 1975 made obsolete
