Lately trucking has been more manageable, and the question is why? Some are hoping that this is finally a turn in the market, but I believe that what we are seeing now has to do with seasonality which starts changing the supply and demand balance. But the foundation of trucking still needs work. Let's chat about interest rates and how trucking will be affected by this latest news.

Great topic choice. In educating the mass that’s in the industry that knows zip on how credit/interest rates/ logistics are all correlated. Keep going as this is the only channel that doesn’t spew nothingness when compared to the rest.

It's been my experience that Flatbeds are seasonally weak going into summer months. That said, I was just quoted an annual insurance rate of $4,105.00 on 1million lability and 100K cargo. Assuming 70K miles/annually, that puts my overall fixed expenses at around .10cents/mile. Sprinkle in .55cents/mile for fuel and .10cents/mile for maintenance and I'm looking at .75cents/mile to run the truck. In 2021, which was the last full year that I operated, my overall operating costs were .80cents/mile on 72,917 miles. Of course I have no debt on my equipment and it's been parked since September of 2022. Like I've been saying, We older guys that have sat out the last couple of years with paid off equipment are you young pups worst nightmare! We can run far more lean and efficiently than you can, and, based on our decades of experience are given much more favorable insurance rates than you young pups can ever dream of getting!
@Solitaryman70
@Solitaryman70 27 дней назад
That can also work Vice Versa if the younger pups are the hotter commodity. I can guarantee you that when the big time Owners and CEOS have their big Convention Meetings in Las Vegas, Us old dogs retired or still active are nowhere mentioned in those Conversations. They have the industry Locked and Boxed just the way they want it. I couldn’t drive a truck again in this current industry if my life depended on it; at least not dealing with Freight. Anything but Freight.

Your perspective is spot on. More sonar would be nice, but that’ll always be true. I’ve got two microscopes running right now (context from a later vid), and this 💩 ain’t supposed to move for a while. They’re playing the long slow game so hard, we’ll be into the next currency (bitcoin) exchange before they settle. I really really think we’re seeing the new normal. Yes it’s seasonal but it’s a long winded season so. Count it. I’m getting back in shortly here in a few. I’ve done more with less. All that stuff that hasn’t been moved is still needing to be moved, once those conditions start to crackle look out.
@Prodigal1
@Prodigal1 27 дней назад
Hi Miranda, you’re correct. Like I said in one of your recent videos, the slight improvement is seasonal coupled with a minor drop in capacity. There was a change in the Fed’s plans to cut interest rates because of persistent high inflation. We are bordering on stagflation . I remember it from the 1970’s , it sucked! There is a huge affordable housing shortage in the US but excessively burdensome regulations, high inflation and high interest rates many people can’t afford to buy a house , especially first timers. Other than seasonal upticks and continual capacity shrinkage I don’t see much improvement coming unless and until we have a change in Government at the top. Fuel prices temporarily easing is actually a bad thing as it keeps those struggling carriers/independents dying off slowly by 1,000 cuts, one cut at a time!
@ChrisL-oz4lp
@ChrisL-oz4lp 27 дней назад
Inflation is caused by increase in prices for services and goods, which is called price gouging for higher profit. Period, end of story. Republicans receive more than half of the corporate pack monies. Now, go vote.

Good Morning, Whether the rates stabilize or not, I doubt any positive gains in trucking. I agree with other comments, our industry is consumer driven not necessarily market driven, yes there are some similarities, however without the consumer buying products trucking is in for a long ride. I would also mention that as well all know this is an election year, regardless if PeterPan were to be elected it won’t change much for the foreseeable future. Economic pain is not immediate and neither are the gains. Here’s the truth folks, this is what trucking is. Trucking rates are about normal the issues are inflation and prices as well are all aware. I started driving in 96’ and trucking has always been an honest hardworking and underpaid career, that’s just reality. I made real, I mean real money for the first time and most likely the last time in trucking, during the pandemic, that’s it. Of course I made during my career but again this is what trucking is. Unless we have another industrial economic boom where factory jobs and other are created, trucking is now the bottom of the barrel job. We will never see what we did again during the pandemic, we may see some stabilizing rates but the rates are what they are and always have been. Stay safe.
@Solitaryman70
@Solitaryman70 27 дней назад
Absolutely agree! It has taken 15-20 years to Demoralize this Nation, as it will take 15--25 years to renormalize everything back to Normal. Of course we all know the greedy 1% percenters have no intentions bringing anything back to Normal. We all can only adjust so much.

I may have purchased a desk like that (could be the exact one, can't tell) years ago, love the glass look. It now sits at my parents and they use it. Trucking may be a "perfect competition" situation where no one has a differentiator in place: no patents, economies of scale, network effects, Innovation. No friction's one can build to reverse the dynamics of perfect competition so people would have a hard time getting any profits.
@danny91pr

Lower interest rates are not always good for the economy. As a matter of fact, central banks use high interest rates as a tool to reduce inflation. A way to think about it is that the interest rates is the cost for private banks to essentially print money. They don't literally print money, but they create it via loans, credit cards, and debt in general. This is all to say, when the rates are low, it's cheaper to create money and vice versa. So it's all a balancing act.
@TruckingPlanet
@TruckingPlanet 27 дней назад
Trucking is driven by the consumer and the consumer is broke with record debt and panic has not even hit the consumer yet. Expect a downward spiral for at least 18 more months. Beyond that, it's a wildcard about what will happen. Time to get off of loadboards and hit the streets, deal direct, develop loyalty and higher net profits.

I do agree with your premise on face value...to cut expenses... but I believe it's an oversimplistic point of view without considering other factors.. Are u single? I say that because you're not factoring the possibility that with a kids and a family.. expenses are going to be high, I don't care what somebody tries to say. Childcare, groceries, if the kids are in sports/clubs, cheerleading (not cheap) etc... it's going to add up especially in this economy, regardless of where your living. I don't know for sure but you said you live much below your means... Much easier when it's just you (I Assume from your statement, I could be wrong). I'm a single dad of 1 right now, but I remember what the needs were, when it was a household of 5... Just something to consider... The point is your family will desire things besides just food and a roof over their head... Convince them to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all month & see how good that goes...

I do also agree that sometimes people will make excuses no matter what. But you are using a blanket/universal statement. Like Hey it's so easy guys.. etc.. It's not a judgement, I agree with much of what you are saying. Like I said for a single guy with all day & night to work & or live in the truck.. I'm not saying it's easy but it's much less complicated ok... I agree cut your expenses.. Saying that the market is subprime is just a true statement.. but yes it's up us to adjust as best as possible.

Are there Bull vs Bear Markets in the trucking industry? IMO, we will be in a BEAR market until Mid #2026. As Stagflation hasn’t even reached its Peak Yet. Does anyone have at least $350K more than they had last year? 😢 Didn’t think so. So how will the average Consumer keep up with inflation? If the average consumer thinks the markets reflecting Credit Card debt as a positive indicator that consumer spending is rising; YIKES 😳, and the housing markets are owned by Very Large Investment Groups; that actually have no interest in Selling. Most potential buyers are now RENTERS, anywhere from $2700 to $4500 dollars a month. Instead of hoping things will improve for the average consumer, I’d start covering up all parts of the body where the hairs are Short….OUCH, If you get SICK 😷 AND NEED SURGERY; as the Medical Healthcare System becomes more privatized, and sending more and more people to early graves 😢, if anyone sees an end to this madness, please POST IT. We’re all listening.

Actually, when rates get cut is when trucking will get even worse. Federal Reserve cuts rates when the economy can no longer sustain high rates. Federal Reserve lowers them to stimulate growth. When the Federal Reserve cuts, they will go all the way to zero, however, when rates get cut, inflation will go higher.
