I just learned about wombats basically "twerking predators to death" by crushing their skulls with their butts. I, of course, immediately searched for a true facts about wombats video because I just knew it was going to be hilarious hearing zfrank mention that little detail. Unfortunately this was the only one I could find that mentioned wombats, and it did not include the skull crushing. Now I am sad. the small volume of the koala's brain could actually be due to how its evolved to save energy. Having large brain takes up so much energy while koalas' diet, eucalyptus, contain very little nutrition.

@Vasili Panin That sounds implausible, but even if it's true, there's a difference between conscious and unconscious thought. Think about how much energy it takes to run a top-tier gaming PC; our brains are multiple orders of magnitude more powerful than that. Spatial awareness, sensory processing, subconscious pattern recognition, bodily regulation, our brains are managing an insane amount of stuff all the time. If I remember correctly, something like 20% of our calorie intake goes toward fueling our brains.

@Vasili Panin Dude, I wasn't trying to be confrontational, but if you're going to insult me you should at least know what the hell you're talking about first. First of all, people use a full 100% of their brains - but only a small percentage of that goes toward *conscious thought*. The rest goes toward unconscious thought. For example, you read this text, right now? That's an insane feat of visual processing, pattern recognition, and concept relation. Your brain has to translate light hitting your eyeballs into a working image. It has to recognize that the colors in that image form patterns. It has to recognize those patterns mean something, and it has to associate them with their correct meaning; the letter 'a' makes a certain sound, a bunch of letters strung together make a word. Do you actually have to *think* about any of that while you're reading, though? No. Your brain just does it. Almost instantly, in fact. And it does it while maintaining your sense of balance, while listening to your environment, while thinking about what you're going to have for dinner, whatever. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, that's your brain not even trying. So no, you can't lose weight by thinking, but that's because almost all of your thinking happens automatically without you even realizing.

I was raised on a mixed farm so, when hearing my first teachers talk about all the Disneyesque farm animals, I experienced a sort of "WTF is she talking about" moment. Actually not "WTF" because I didn't know the expression though I'd seen a fair bit of it. Animals generally go for anything. I resigned myself to being jaded too soon. I mean, lambs tended to keel over and just die for no apparent reason and that Sunday chicken dinner you were hand feeding a few days earlier. It can take a while to make the connections. These videos are at a whole new level.

Because of the large number of people who now use the word differently the word "literally" is able to have a hyperbolic effect and actually mean something entirely new through the shift in how society views the word.

Koalas are one of the things in the world that can spontaneously combust! Eucalyptus oil is flammable. They're covered in it often. Dry climate. All it takes, from what I understand, is a spark, even just from static electricity. It's a short list, I keep adding to it over time. Grain silos. Hay bales. People, supposedly. Koalas.
