I have the smaller Ikari just like the one he has here. I love mine! Im in the deep backwoods of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Very steep, slippery, dense underbrush and usually a lot of hiking. Packing light is great here! Using a backpack is a sure fire way to get tangled up in a laurel, lol. I think they are great for light packing and having it in the Jeep so I can just grab it and go if i drive by a stream. Also they are very sturdy. I normally wouldnt have gotten one but I spent the extra couple bucks for slick look and design. =)

I too carry way more accessories than I really need but it's how I like it. My vest is loaded to the hilt! I love my Tanuki XL-1!

It's so much easier for myself to bring a backpack as well, but I can see this being super useful for people who would rather keep it simplistic and light.

Good vid. Neat stuff in your review, but like you I would probably never use anything like that. These streams you fish are Amazing. Great job.

I could probably use something like this; I tend to carry too much stuff out on the stream. I use a traditional fly fishing vest, and I stuff it to the brim with flies, tippet, floatant, etc.

Great review. When you get older (70-80) carrying a backpack gets a little heavy. So then you might find that this kind of set-up might be just what you need. I just use rod, very small fly box and maybe some water and spare lines. So this kind of setup would work well for a minimalist type tenkare fisherman.

“They really just solve problems I don’t have.” Your delivery of the brutal truth may be appreciated by some, though probably not the artist of our niche past-time. I saw Tom’s earlier and thought they looked nice, though I am more of a lumbar pack dude for streaming/bouldering my home waters.

I don't know if it's that brutal! They seem to be something that people want, as there are multiple things like this on the market, but they're just not for me. I told Roman that before he even sent them to me. Thanks for watching, Mitch!

I notice you rarely need to hand line to land the fish and you’re able to simple left up and net the fish, at least when it’s a smaller fish. What casting line length do you typically use? Same as rod length and then add tippet or is the casting line shorter than the rod length? Always enjoy the videos!
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
Yeah, I can do that only with small fish. With bigger/heavier fish, I need to hand line them in. The line is almost always the length of the rod plus 2 or 3 feet of tippet. Almost never shorter.

I get that they're made of wood but these seem way too expensive for something that is incredibly simple and not really necessary. The reason I love tenkara is because it's so simple and can be done on the cheap, for the most part.

Hey Isaac, Roman from Ikari here. If you ever tried making something yourself from scratch and tried selling it as a product. you'd understand why they priced the way they are. Starting at $50 is not that crazy. Most good rods are $200+. If you are ok with disposable plastic boxes - that is totally fine. If this system is not for you - that's ok as well. The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten. ✌️

Sir is there any other idea to diy kind of lillian by self... i really need help on that 🙏
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
I'm not sure what you mean. Do you have a rod without a lilian? If you can figure out a way to super-glue any piece of thin cord into the tip, it should work.
@sugriv3405
@sugriv3405 3 года назад
@@TenkaraAddict yeah sir i got one.. but lillian came out. Living in india is not that easy to find that kind of thing out here & for ordering it cost more with delivery charge that's wy i asked for some ideas abt it sir. Thankyou for your reply sir means a lot 😊🙏

Suggested yarn colors for Idaho?
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
I tie what I call the Idaho Killer Kebari using the Flame yarn. I used it almost exclusively last year when fishing in Idaho. I also like the Leprechaun and Black/Sholmit. But basically anything that's pinkish, reddish, brownish, or blackish will work great.

i have trouble casting the level line with even a bit of wind.. tips? also, you said you’re using 13ft of level line.. how much tippet do you have on? thanks.
@jakobijones3809
@jakobijones3809 3 года назад
My rod is 12 feet I use 10 feet of furled line and 2-3 feet of tippit , level lime is the hardest line I’ve found to cast take a look at tenkara rod co lines they have a couple different options and great videos on line !
@arthururban8340
@arthururban8340 3 года назад
@@jakobijones3809 nice thanks. i use the 12 foot dragontail shadow fire with 8 feet of fly line attached to 4 feet of level line and 4 feet tippet. works great but the fly line does weigh everything down. easy to cast though..
@jakobijones3809
@jakobijones3809 3 года назад
Yes the fly line is to heavy , if you like the fly line tenkara rod co makes a great crossbreed tenkara line that floats like a fly line is very easy to take on and off and comes In a couple colors 10 feet is usually my max for 12 ft rod.

@@jakobijones3809 fair point I have yet to try those lines. thanks.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
Casting in the wind sucks (especially with level line), and there's no real way around it. I had about 3 feet of tippet on the line.

The one that clips to the rod.... looks like a reel! 😨. Kinda defeats the purpose of tenkara, may affect balance and feel. Nicely crafted, as other comments have said, will suit some folks.
@ikarigear
@ikarigear 3 года назад
Hey Andrew, they meant to be taken off when fishing, clip stays, but it doesn't affect anything. It also can be used as a line winder as well. I appreciate the comment.

Man, I just love watching you fish. But...I just HATE watching you flail about with the net, bouncing the fish through the air and off the shore. As ridiculous as it sounds, you should find a way to practice your net skills. Think like a baseball player, watch the fish all the way into the net. You miss the net almost every time!
