Trying to Fix a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick

I picked up this broken Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick from eBay for £19.99. the seller explained that button 3 and the hat switch right not working.
The Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is a great choice of Joystick for flight sims like FS2020 and Star Wars Squadrons. It has 12 buttons, a top mounted hat switch, a throttle Slider, X,Y axes and Z Rotation axis
So let's take it apart and see if I can fix it...

Lovely quick fix, just shows how easy some of the broken parts are to fix that some people just chuck out and replace.

So now whenever one of my gadgets breaks i will just send it to you to fix. Really nice video. I bet many flight sticks have gone in the trash when it was a simple fix like yours. Good job!!

For nearly 20yrs I've always wondered what the inside of my 3...yes 3 Logitech 3D Pros looked like. One I just gave to my buddy for doing my taxes this year, the other is sitting at my backup pc behind me(haven't used it in 8yrs) and the one right here in front of me has a slight glitch in the Z rotation. It turns left 100% but glitches a little when turning to full right and stops sometimes at 90-95%. Not a REAL major issue, and it frees up after using it for a few minutes. Like me...a little arthritis in the joints I guess lol. Luckily all the buttons, hat, and throttle slider are still functioning. This was awesome to watch and learn the insides of one of the best long running joysticks since pc gaming. I tip my ......hat..switch to you sir. Thumbs up, and subbed. ✌😎👍

Been looking for a dissassembly video eveywhere, glad this exists since my "3" button and the others seem to have a problem staying pressed down, otherwise been having fun piloting aircraft in planetside 2 with this thing.

Great video, Kev... and a great explanation. I am sure there are loads of 3dExtreme joysticks out there with the same issue in the “broken toys” bin in the closet of people’s houses.

Just happen to found yours video for almost the same issue but many many buttons. Helped me solved the issue. Just lose molex connectors I have to repush to have all back working. Just dumb design flaw. Mine looked just brand new while buying used.

Thanks for the video. I have about 4 or 5 old joysticks like this just laying around because the buttons stopped working. I'm going to break a few open and see if I can re-connect them like you did in this video. Again, thanks a ton.

Well done. My z rotation isn't centering and My charaters and ships are rotating to port. I'll see if I can fix it.

Thanks so much for this! I have a very similar issue with mine, except it's two different buttons on the top not working. I took apart the top of the joystick and couldn't find an issue, but I wouldn't have thought that something on the bottom would be the cause. What a bad design. I'll open mine up tomorrow and take a look at the bottom. Surely there's a good way of giving that wire a bit more slack and securing it near the bottom so the connector doesn't take any strain. My son has one of these as well, and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before his does it too.

Thank You! I will be doing as you did. 1 and 2 buttons quit working when Z Rotation is anywhere between 6 and 12 o'clock in the square diagram. I'm gonna dig in. Thanks Again! Oh and by the way, I Subscribed!

Looks to me that a previous repairer had gone crazy with the hot glue gun. Good job Kev! I always enjoy taking things apart and fixing them, it’s normally something simple but sometimes it all goes wrong. Great video.

SLightly off topic. I was wondering if it is possible to have the logitech pro joystick be used a midi controller in order to control hardware music gear such as the MPC one. I have seen many videos on using PlayStation controllers to control midi in software DAWs such as Ableton. My imagination is running wild here haha. Any ideas?

You are the best dude, I am 100% certain that my controller has the same issue, I will try it very soon. Interestingly, the hotglue seems like it doenst actually do its job. And since this thing is heretically easy to take apart (by todays standards at least) I think leaving it of makes it easier to do maintenance in the future. How long did the pins stay in place without glue for you? My Joystick (stock) needed like 400 hours of use until button 1-4 failed.

Ive got a joystick that I used to use to play Hypersports, Track and Field and Daley Thompsons Decathalon from back in the day. All buttons are fragged and the left and right buttons are fubar.......can you fix ? lol Pleaed you got it all fixed Kev, youve bagged a bargain :) Thanks for sharing.

I got it, and rudder is fucked. Already calibrated it like 1 million times and still fails. Gonna use is as target practice with my shotgun (in real world).

I tried this on my Extreme 3D Pro and it actually didn't fix the problem. I've tested it and the buttons that don't work when the stick is moved to the left still don't work, even if i hold the wires in place manually. They also show no sign of working when I move the wires around to simulate stick movement, but start working when I move just the center shaft of the stick and keep all of the wires still. No clue what the heck the problem actually could be.

My trottle calibration is always changing, example my 1st calibration it will be 255 the 2nd will 225 the 3rd will 200 how to fix that?

I was going to fix my non functioning buttons, took it apart measured the buttons(i had the right kind) and then i realised that i am out of solder

11:21 Why when I get off my hands from stick the aircraft going up or down in the air? any solution to make the aircraft going straight after I take off my hands from stick? I have the same joystick. Also did your stick doesn't fix at one point at the center? because when I touch my stick with my finger I see my stick budge a bit from center. (I see the play in the stick) is your shaft is well fixed or not?

@ClickTech One question do you know how to fix the "mushroom" on this joystick because "mushroom" on my Logitech 3d pro joystick goes hardly left and and up down and right is good. When I pull it up or down or right with my thumb id makes a click sound but when I pull it left it doesnt do that sound and I must push it hard for it to register. Can you pls try to help me with this problem. Thanks!

Good Morning ! My name is Sérgio Ricardo I'm from Brazil and I bought this joy stick and for some time now it started to have problems with the accelerator and axles! I disassembled it I tried to clean it with sply clean contacts and the problem with the accelerator I couldn't leave as it is from the factory. and instead while the aircraft rudder tilts to the right side. having to unplug and plug in again for him to try to align, already installed the drive etc and the problem continues. I don't think to buy it anymore because I've seen it in another video that was already the second that a user had and this problem presented. in this way what can it be? Do you have any idea? thank you !

This is exactly what I have going on! Very very twitchy rudder that screws up flights. There’s so much rudder authority that it trips A/P and makes distance flights unavailable. Any fixes?

well, i tried your solution, some cables were a bit off, i tried to push em back. And they clicked. but after connecting everything ..the same issue persists. So only when i turn right: the Trigger, and buttons 2-3 work. if the stick is in normal position those buttons wont react. Im clueless. Any ways thanks for your video. today i leearned how to disarm and check my logitech. LOL

Make sure that the plug connector is completely pushed down. My cable's plug was a tiny bit loose.

My stick handle seems to be loose, whenever I put my hand on the side rest it twists the rudder axis a bit to the right. In calibration it shows 10%, what should I do to fix that?

Mine has static in the joystick. If I don't move it, then it may not have it. But when I move and hold it to a position it's got Michael J Fox Syndrome sorry to use that for example, but.. it won't sit still. Keep acting like static is jabbing it into back n fourth or left or right skits, while I try to hold in one spot. I have not been abusive to it. Treat it like gold. And it suddenly started Oct 25th. Was perfect. Any ideals. I tried recalibrating. No help.
