For anyone confused about the naming of the tape used in the video. Scotch is a brand and duct is the name of tape that 3M manufacture. I think an interesting - stretching the definition of interesting - quirk here is that in different countries, PSA tape or pressure-sensitive tape tends to be referred to by a generic brand name; another example of this would be band-aids. In the UK, all PSA tape, including Scotch PSA tape, is typically called Sellotape due to the same quirk. However, and this part is interesting, the word Scotch was used as a pejorative term used to describe someone as ungenerous or stingy and the naming of the tape anecdotally came from a dissatisfied product tester demanding that their Scotch bosses use more adhesive. As a noun Scotch (of or from Scotland) is considered an offensive term, however there are still many examples of it being used, such as scotch whisky, and broth.

the “tense up while being tied up” is actually a real thing, in case anyone was wondering. it doesn’t work quite as well as in the troom troom video but it gives you a little more space to work with. edit: since people actually saw this i want to mention the duct tape thing is real, too. obviously it won’t work that easy though. you’re supposed to raise your arms over your head and bring them down sharply and quickly, while also pulling your elbows apart. it’ll probably take a couple tries but it is genuinely good advice.

Regarding melting a zip tie with a match: I'm pretty sure Troom Troom took this from the real life case in which one of serial killer Bob Berdella's victims escaped using this method. However, the reason he was able to do this was because Bob Berdella had been sexually assaulting him for a long period of time and was deluded into believing that his victim was actually in love with him, so he became more lax in his restraints when he left for work. The reason the victim couldn't simply bend at the waist to pick up the match was because he was tied to a bed post. Naturally, Troom Troom wasn't going to include any of these disturbing details and wanted to present a sanitised version of kidnapping in which the victim is never in too much danger, so the context is lost and this tip seems really bizarre as a result. I imagine the rest of these tips are similar: Things that have been/could be legit avenues of escape in specific circumstances, but without those circumstances it just seems weird and useless.

9:45 - it can kill or paralyze at least, but it's nowhere near as easy as tv implies so it's not applicable anyway. I don't think there is anyone on Earth that is strong enough to break someone's neck in that position, while being thin enough to have a chokeable neck.

just gonna put this out there, if you actually get kidnapped, focus on staying alive and calm, not breaking out of whatever restraints you might have on. you won’t be able to magically get away just because you aren’t restrained anymore, and, unless you have a very clear opportunity (like being left alone in a room full of weapons) escape should be lower on your list of priorities than finding a way to contact the police.
