I would go with the turbo, superchargers eventually eat up your main bearings and dont have the broad power band a turbo has. But no matter what, definitely get it tuned. So very important. Just saying.

@RatchetWrenches if you already have headers I would go blower. The sound gets changed alot with a turbo too. Not a bad sound just not the traditional mustang sound they're known for. Both have their strengths. On a stock motor either can take it past safe limits pretty easy.

My advice is to visit a junkyard. Poke around and find a non PI 2v. You can pick one up for a few hundred dollars. That way you can build up an engine while still being able to drive your car. A non PI short block with PI heads, cams, long tube headers, and a tune will do 400hp at the crank. You can build that combo for $1500 or less.The stock block will definitely handle 600+hp. When it comes to boost or nitrous the thing that kills most short blocks is ring gap. The rings will close and that's what destroys the pistons. After that the next weak link is the rods.

Kenne Bell 2.1L. For instant throttle response, direct displacement blower is the way to go, thats why demon and gt500s have superchargers. They sound better (opinion), but get ready to do suspension work, cause you'll be blowing the tires away. If you have traction issues, turbos are better, they do make higher hp and power develops with rpm, no parasitic loss, but more heat and changes the way your car sounds. Then again, are you racing? from a dig? roll? prepped surface? lots of variables. do you like supercharger whine? or turbo sound?

So I know I’m late to the game...always a difficult decision. I’m between the two myself. Had a previous 04 GT with a vortech aftercooled kit and a V2SQ blower. On 12psi it put down 477/461. Stock internals with induction and fuel upgrades. Had the car for a year like that and saw it 2 years later and it was still solid. It’s really all in the tune and how you drive it. Pros for the vortech are you can keep all your current exhaust mods and you don’t have to get the k member. Down sides are you have to worry about heat soak since there’s not an intercooler and if the drive belt breaks or comes off, no power. I think it’s CX racing has a intercooler kit I’ve seen many use for the vortechs. Turbo just makes great power but much more involved for the install. I have heard of some not getting their fog lights back in after also. You just really need to keep an eye on boost levels and A/F ratio since they have a tendency for “boost creep”. Hard to argue with the On3 price and numbers it produces!
@RatchetWrenches
@RatchetWrenches 4 года назад
You’re 100% right! Yeah I’m still so torn between the 2 different options but after thinking about it I’m leaning towards the vortech kit. It’s really the best bang for your buck. I didn’t know CX racing made the intercooler kit I’ll have to check that out thanks for the feedback!
@topdowntoads3684

Ratchet Wrenches yeah man...hard choice. Either way, you can’t go wrong with forced induction....power on demand whenever and wherever you want it. Check out Richard Holdener’s dyno videos on the 2 valves, he’s got some great content on power proven combos and one is a vortech kit with the CX racing intercooler. Made more power and flows better than the vortech aftercooler.

Four valve swap it! Find a cheap one in a junkyard, find a terminator shortblock, they’re super stout, and add it to a set of trickflow two valve heads! Then add boost!!! In the end, probably not a huge price difference between it and building your two valve! Or, yeah, some good trickflow two-valve heads, cams and built bottom-end. Then add whatever boost you prefer! 🚀

If you decide to go turbo I can almost guarantee the stock bottom end 4.6 will last longer than a centrifugal blower or roots/screw at the same amount of boost just make sure you have a good tuner. @RatchetWrenches

Yes the turbo is more efficient and has more potential then a supercharger. I’ve heard the stock 4.6L blocks can handle quite a bit, especially with forged internals like Andrew Lavender’s build on RU-vid is a great example. For a good turbo build yea the coyote isn’t too far off in price point but it’s so overdone and it’s a lot more work if you don’t have access to a lift / the right equipment. For now we are sticking with the 4.6L block and I’m probably going turbo set up this year so we’ll see how it handles it.

A coyote swap is generally a good but more. Driver experience has to be thought about too. A blown cammed 2v is going to make nasty sounds and sound way cooler than an na coyote. It will have a totally different feel. You can build the 2v bottom end and make pretty good power. Coyote swaps are alot of money all in especially if you go with a gen 2 or 3. Trying to decide which way ima go with my2v. Just got it a couple weeks ago 100% bone stock. I’ve since lowered it muffler delete, bbk 78mm throttle body/plenum with a 1/2” plenum spacer, cold air intake, sct x4, and got everything for a j-mod and a 2800rpm stall getting ready to put that in the next couple of days. Then 4.10’s. The car currently has a nitrous express wet kit on it I installed last week and it actually runs pretty good now on a 125 shot. But I’m tired of paying $8 a lb for nitrous considering my 3v is also nitrous it’s getting pretty expensive. I’ve only got two bottles so it’s $160 every time I fill up and sometimes that’s 2-3 times a month. Plus I’d just rather have boost I’ve never owned a supercharged or turbo car. Every mustang I’ve ever had has been nitrous just because the initial install is a lot cheaper. The car runs really good and I couldn’t be happier especially since I have very little money invested. Besides the shift kit, stall and 4.10’s I bought everything used. I’m leaning towards a centrifugal supercharger mostly because of cost and more straight forward install or at least seems like it is vs a turbo. But I really want a roots style. I like the instant boost they give and the whine they make. Found a few used kits on eBay for around $2k but idk if I want to spend $2k on a used kit when I can get a brand new centrifugal kit for about $1000 more

Turbo is going to eat that stock bottom end up. With the torque they make you wont be able to push the power levels much on the stock bottom end and its the BEST and second most expensive option. Turbo needs a complete tubular front end (needs to be the ON3 K Member) remember that. The stock turbo that comes in the On3 kit is not great. Other than that its what I will be getting when I switch over. The Vortech (Which I have) with a DIY FMIC is the cheapest by far (mine was used) but does lack the power under the curve you gain with the other 2 options.

The PD blower is going to be an amazing feeling power curve on the street. They are expensive but can be found used for a good price. Also on you comment for cams. They are one of the best bang for buck additions to any boosted application. On the 4.6 2v cams will gain around 20-30hp but on a boosted 4.6 2v the gain is that and more depending on the power level. I daily drove it like this for years (currently resting in my parents garage as I don't have one). Very fun car and for the price of a cheap 2v ($6k gets you a good one in chicagoland), a blower kit you put together ($1500-2k, assuming you can install yourself), and a few hundred for tuning and you have a pretty fun and unique ride. Obviously a bunch more money will be spent on the way on exhaust, suspension, etc but these parts tend to be cheaper for 2vs than newer mustangs. It will always cost more than expected but a 2v or a fox body will always yield a good time Finally, I think blowers tend to be more street-able and reliable if you plan on driving the car a lot.

@hghiflyfyf 4 года назад
@@RatchetWrenches you can find nice cobras for 15 to 20 grand. Ppl spend that by the time they put forged parts and boost and tune everything. Then u want to upgrade supension. Cobra is a better starting point all around.

Keep the 2 Valve and put $15 k into it and you'll out do a Termi everywhere...As a matter of fact you'll out do most cars...

Hahah nah we wanna do it right, we legit have a $600 year ebay kit on our Miata if you haven’t seen our videos and it’s fun but it’s so frustrating

@@meezylife673 yeah these eBay kits are usually not direct plug and play. A lot of fab and custom stuff. So after experiencing that on our Miata we want something more designed specifically for the mustang itself

@@RatchetWrenches that’s very understandable I just didn’t know this was the goal. I myself have bought a eBay turbo and I’m in the process of fabbing everything up myself I’m also posting everything on my channel... new to RU-vid and new to the boosted life

@@RatchetWrenches can’t go wrong but I’m just a fan of turbos.... My daily is an 2016 SHO so I’m kinda bias to turbos and RU-vid Richard Holdener he got a lot of good boosted 4.6 2v vids with dyno charts

Oh thanks so much for that bro I’ll get right on that! I didn’t even know it needed cleaning for being an 18 year old car.
