Hi, Jason. I believe I was using a 3/8" spindle gouge for this piece. It is a Doug Thompson (Thomson Turning Tools) spindle gouge. I love his tools. They are powder metal and cryogenically treated, and quite a bit cheaper than similar tools from major manufacturers. The tools are sold unhandled, but if you don't want to make your own handle, you can also buy a handle from Thompson Tools.

Thanks for the info. Yeah a lot of turners seem to like the Thompson turning tools.

It is the plain spindle gouge - not the detail gouge or the shallow gouge.

+Jim Mitchell I use a friction polish on all my small turnings. It's a 1-1-1 ratio of shellac, alcohol, and boiled linseed oil. I just started adding the boiled linseed oil recently, so I don't think it was mentioned in the video.
