Out of the minority of people who do detransition, it’s often not even because they no longer feel trans. The most reported reasons for detransition is outward pressure, ie an unsupportive family, community, poverty or bullying, and many of those people re-transition later on in life. “A total of 17,151 (61.9%) participants reported that they had ever pursued gender affirmation, broadly defined. Of these, 2242 (13.1%) reported a history of detransition. Of those who had detransitioned, 82.5% reported at least one external driving factor. Kids don’t get “hormone supplements” they get puberty blockers until they are around 16. These medications are safe, reversible, and effective at preventing the many negative effects of going through the wrong puberty. After age 16 they might - under the guidance of a treatment team including multiple therapists and medical doctors. Receive hormone replacement therapy which gives them the correct hormone profile to relieve psychological strain by giving them the correct secondary sexual characteristics.

I would be dead if I didn’t transition when I did.

I’m also married to someone who “detransitioned” after being on hormones when they were 15 and they absolutely believe in every trans person being able to access the care they need
