Thanks for the tutorial! I found your channel looking for a recent tutorial on the game. I didn't need an in-depth guide, just something to show me how to get started and this did a perfect job.
Awesome Tutorial. The gameplay was tricky to pick up on my own out of the box. This helped a lot. Ty. Btw...this 50 year old gamer was pleased to hear a 80s game reference. Well done, old timer. :)
From a prior US Navy guy thanks for this, I was a surface guy and only knew never to mess with subs so it was cool to see this to better understand the game thanks
Liked, Subscribed, Shared. I bought this game the day it came out and did a couple small vids but got distracted by other commitments and haven’t had the time to invest in getting back into it. This helps a lot so thank you, sir.
Thanks very much I just bought this game last night while looking at Wolfpack and of course as others have said the tutorial is outdated, I used to play silent hunter and currently play cold waters. Thanks again I can’t wait to get started once the kids are asleep. 👍🏻
GrizznaK's Workshop its on my wish list I’m trying to convince my friends, one in particular that I used to try and play silent hunter with to buy it if it goes on sale (it used to drop connection a lot). I think I’ll need a lot of training on Wolfpack, might have to take you up on the offer cheers.
GrizznaK's Workshop yea I love team work games, it looks like the same kind of social team work game as Star Trek bridge crew but of course not in space and not on a Star ship 😂. But I love playing that and always loved playing sub games. Thanks again for your offer. (Just checking your video again and transferring stock/ammo 👍🏻)
@@ThisIsMarkLar Hey another teamwork game you might like and is on spaceships is a game called "Pulsar the Lost Colony" it alot of fun with friends and the Devs are always upgrading and working on it.
I'm now about to watch, appreciate this man! Just re-downloaded the game and was told many changed were made that made the prior in-game tutorial obsolete. I'm excited to get re-acquanited because the game is amazing.
appreciate this, was trying to decide if I wanted to purchase or not, you gave a really nice run down of what to expect and gave some good advice. Cheers.
Brilliant tutorial from someone who understands UBoat is not a shooter game showing how the entire simulator has changed since the initial patch were added
Thank you Bob just trying to get more people into this great game it is still being developed and I believe It can become one of the best sub sims. Thank you!
@@CAPNGRIZZ hi, started playing sub commander from 2006. Found the boardgame version and that lead me here. So there's no towed arrays or sonars or waterfalls?
The quick and easy way without drawing lines for every ship etc. Use the map and draw a line to the bow of your target line length doesnt matter then a line to your uboat. That gives you AOB. Red seeing ship going left. Green if ship is heading to right in periscope. Time target by placing periscope in front if ship set timer. When the stern passes the vertical periscope line stop timer and that is your speed. Last use ranger finder the "double vision" of ship and place image on top of mast and that's your range your all set. Make sure your torpedoes are warmed up so they go off. Good thing if this is confusing I have several uboat videos of sinking hundreds of ships in which I do this process every time. Hope this helps and good hunting!
New to steam and this game so I have watched a lot of videos. On my 1st successful mission I ran out of food and several crew members got sick. I made it back to port though. I didn't notice the cabinet can be filled more than once. I go to the warehouse and grab what I can and fill the cabinet. I then go to the cabinet and empty into knapsacks, galley, etc. and repeat but the last time I want back to the warehouse after compressing the hours to load there were no more food items to get. I am wondering if the food onboard will go bad if I keep compressing time and go back for more food? I have figured out about discipline after my 1st mission was unsuccessful and I had a sailor have a heart attack, etc. Thanks for the video and tips! Hope to see more!
Your food will not go bad not yet anyway. You can keep restocking as long as the man had the supplies. You can hover over the storage by the galley and it will show how long a supply of food you have. Hope it helps and thanks for your support. Goodluck and good hunting!!!
My issue is that I can see the any ship I'm targeting because the waves are too high. I don't know how you guys manage to target and sink anything. Thank you very much for the video.
Hello there Great video, I'm new to Uboat and was wanting to know if there are keys to use to zoom in and out across the ocean even if you are submerged? Is it similar in any way to SH5? the W key and scroll to zoom over water etc I have used the scroll key as when zooming in and out to order men in the sub but as soon as in submerge i can't see any surrounding ocean etc.? Many thanks and great tutorial. Hans Closs. AKA Ray.
The wasd keys allow you to move the camera around your sub Middle mouse wheel allows the zoom in and zoom out function. Another cool feature I haven't talked about is if you hit N it's free float camera and if you put the free float camera anywhere on the sub it sticks to the sub giving great camera angles and cool shots. Once in free float camera you use the wasd to travel around and the mouse to rotate the view. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the video. Question: All the tutorials I've seen on RU-vid are typically done in the most favorable weather, so it's easier to use the periscope tools to get the measurements. What if we catch a convoy at 2 am? It's quite hard to see, any tutorial planned for the night attacks or any tips?
I can be very hard to see when its pitch black but the convoy cant see either I would get far ahead of convoy get in thier path submerge and leave engines off. Fire when they are real close to increase odds of hitting . Believe the destoyers are the only ones with Asdic and corvettes just listen so you can take advantage of that when getting in convoy.
Hi, love the videos. Can Steam be used thru a PS4? My computer don't like it at all. I have several games I own on Steam. Thanks for any info. I am a U boat nut, at well as a Ocean Liner Nut. I have been studying them both about 45 years.
I dont think so unfortunately would be great if we could. Thanks for support I have had and interest in WW2 submarine war on all fronts since I was 6. The stories I have read from all sides have been amazing and took serious balls to see it thru. Wish more movies would come out covering the subject.
You had both bread and bacon available, as well as two more slots for more variety. Instead of filling the remaining space with all bacon, you could have split it between both bacon and bread. That would have given the crew 4 different items instead of 3 different items. And you would have gotten more value for the food being used because it raises morale faster the more types of food available. Generally, I tend to feed them only one kind of food until they actually need a boost to discipline. And once they need that boost, I make sure they have 4 different kinds to eat to raise the discipline back up more quickly. And once they top back out at 100%, I basically go back to just one type again, and the cycle repeats. I do not believe it makes much sense to only feed them 3 types when 4 types are available and you need more morale.
Yea I know sometime I just throw whatever in there and do not pay attention to it as much as I should but could make the difference when morale is low.
@@CAPNGRIZZ When they eat, they only subtract one unit from one random type of food that you're offering them to eat at the moment. So even if you offer them 4 different types, when they actually eat, they're still only going to eat one from one random type. So it just makes more sense to set it up such that the one food eaten gives the most bang for the buck so to speak (discipline gain). I didn't want to come across as necessarily explaining the mechanics to you, as I think you probably know a few things that I still don't. I was more worried that someone else might watch and come to the conclusion that they should just keep the bin full, regardless of diversity of choices. My first reputation-based upgrade (favor) is usually the one that allows you go out without any active missions. And I often come back to port with a fatigue penalty that is sky high for having been out so long. I also tend to get the most out of my batteries so as to conserve fuel at the expense of expediency. I never run my diesel engines when batteries are full, unless something in the game absolutely requires it - to maximize the time I can be out there hunting. Germany was hurting for fuel IRL, and seems only right to role play that out as well. Anyhow, it's a great game. Glad to see other fans play.
@@shanejohns7901 no it all good I appreciate any input. I talk about food in some of my other videos as well as using radio and officers playing cards with the crew etc. I'm about helping anyone get into this game as for a subsim it's one of the best I believe thanks for your info.
@@CAPNGRIZZ Yea, I also have SH3, SH4, SH5, and of course Cold Waters....and Battlestations Midway, Battlestations Pacific, War on the Sea, Atlantic Fleet, Victory at Sea, Victory at Sea Pacific. UBoat alone probably gets around 50% of my playtime.
Especially if you have a server with like a open world pvpve kinda thing where you're out there and destroyers are out there and you're running your missions but you do and will come in contact with other subs and destroyers like at any given time.
I watched some old movies and I pulled a stunt from an old movie and it saved my butt already from three destroyers above me. And ee was a sub near by and we'll he didn't make it lmao and it all happened right above me the depth charges and all it was an insane moment so far on this game and I just started
No sorry would be great if they have milk cows in the game. You can always put your cursor over the galley and storage by it to see how many days of food you have also when your in port you can hit up the supply guy multiple times and get food items over and over again. Stock up your galley to full capacity and then store all least 4 different food items in storage each can give to 100 if food is available for that item. Try and get a month worth and if you need you can remove bullets from you AA gun and make room for additional food items as well as deck gun if you want.
Alright, first you cant leave port until you speak to the HQ guy and pick up a mission. Once you select a mission. Hit M key for map then use middle mouse wheel to zoom in to your location. Rt click a course out of the harbor then hit F3 or select speed in sub management screen then select forward 2 or standard. Now that should at least get you out of the harbor.
How do you give supplies to the people in the row boats. Cause I can not figure it out or the command to do it it says go to supplies and idk how to do it I tried throwing over board didn't work idk I'm lost
Drive the sub near them and stop. Should see an icon pop up to interact upper rt side. Also take the capn and engineers as prisoners they get you more renoun when you turn them in at port.
You seem to know a lot about this sim. I just finished an attack (success) sunk the ship. But on my escape my batteries died. I’m stuck at periscope depth and I can’t turn on the Diesel engines. My guys are just going to suffocate now 😑 any fix to this?
You can always blow the ballast assuming you still have air in the tanks if not see if you can run the diesel compressor to get you to the surface. If the diesel compressor in back does not come on you can be in trouble but seeing that you still are at periscope depth you can surface just hope enemy ships aren't near by. Diesel compressor consumes air so make sure you got some air for your crew before you do this. Also the boat will be dark you can go first person I believe and turn on a flashlight to find the equipment.
GrizznaK's Workshop yeah I’m screwed. Diesel compressor will not come on. The boat needs battery power to run anything. That’s my problem. Daaaammmmn man I got to start all the way over.
It's a crew management game. Only real issue your dealing with is crew discipline which can be restored when crewman snap so it's got some sim elements but mostly it's just a great subsim.
Bow angle can be a difficult concept to understand and harder in practice. The new B127 update uses the traditional bow angle guage. First look at ship and which side if ship do you see the port (left) or starboard (right) once that's established you have 180 degrees to work with. Go to map and draw a line with protractor in front of the ship and bring the line to its bow. From there bring the line from the bow of ship to location of your submarine you will see an angel degree from the ship bow and the line starting to your sub that's your Angle on Bow. Also I do AOB on many of my videos before I make and attack. Hope this helps.
Best method I use is get to patrol area dive the boat periscope depth shut your engine off and just listen for a for a bit. You can hear for many miles and that's how I find them.
I played SH3 GWX quite alot in the past, if this is similar, a good trick was to submerge periscope depth in a high traffic area & listen hydrophone till a sound contact popped up, hydro longer range than visual, so i mostly used hydrophone.
@@imperialrussianempire4780 dont think so once its downloaded it can play without internet but you will not get any updates to the game which there have been many.
@@CAPNGRIZZ This guide did the trick for me, I was so overwhelmed at first. The one thing I couldn't figure out well enough was calculating targeting solutions but apart from that it was a great intro!
The Mods are in steam workshop just subscribe to the mods to want like the 'Das Boot soundtrack" and when you go to load the game the mods button appears before you load into it.
You do not really explain what you are doing during the engagement or why you are doing it. During the engagement you seemed to go auto pilot and it was hard to follow what exactly you were clicking and doing as well as why and how.
Sorry about that brother just trying to cover what I can and explain to folks enough info to get them started I'm new to this so will try and be more clear in the future.
Thanks Sunny Jim! Actually appreciate this and I know I should do some for future videos. Just letting you know I know what you mean and thanks for the Honesty.
