I'm blown away at the exceptional quality of these nearly 40 year old home recordings - I could listen to this stuff for hours. Thanks for sharing!

I love the 70's. Hearing those TV recordings took me back to the feeling of that time in my life as a very young child. I hope you have digitally transferred these recordings. Thanks for this!!

The late Allan Jefferys V/O'd the preemption notice in favor of a special "Tuesday Movie of the Week" ("The President's Plane Is Missing") at the start of this clip, and Bill Owen V/O'd the open. As for the "Candlepins for Cash" promo V/O afterwards, who was it? (Sure wasn't Leif Jensen.) The V/O after the "Sonny & Cher" promo, was Wally King. The "Festival of Lively Arts" V/O was Alan Berns, followed by Mr. King. The teletype SFX heard over Chuck Scarborough is used today by 1010 WINS.

...and I thought I was the only one recording stuff off TV back then -- albeit with a inexpensive cassette deck connected to the speaker...

"The Name of the Game" was also sydicated on WCBS and WBBM. The episode "Ordeal" aired on WCBS under the "Channel 2 Showcase" umbrella on July 17, 1978.

"THE CBS FESTIVAL OF LIVELY ARTS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE" was a "floating series" of entertaining cultural specials for kids and teens- the promo at 11:21 [which followed "TATTLETALES"] was for a slightly condensed version of Gilbert & Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore", with Richard Thomas {"The Waltons"} as host, telecast on Friday, November 23, 1973, the day after Thanksgiving, at 3pm(et).

I had one of those Sony TV-720U sets back in 1970!

@jcice3 Yes, these off-air recordings from four decades ago have help up well. Most of the content was taped from a Sony TV-720U, a small seven-inch black and white portable that was introduced in the late 1960s. The recordings were made at a speed of 3.75 inches-per-second in the quarter-track format.

Speaking of which, it took me a moment to notice that WNAC had used as their Late Movie theme a music bed that also popped up at KCOP several years later. It was used as a technical difficulties bumper, IIRC.

EXCELLENT! I hope you're able to dig up some more old Boston TV footage. Especially from the likes of WSBK-TV 38, and WLVI-TV 56. Thanks!

"TUESDAY MOVIE OF THE WEEK": "The President's Plane Is Missing" [October 23, 1973]. What Allan Jefferys said at the beginning (while our audiophile was switching back and forth from ABC to NBC to CBS' "MAUDE"!) was, "'THE NEW TEMPERATURE'S RISING SHOW' will not be seen tonight, in order to bring you...".

That was a very modern sounding close for WNAC for 1974
