you are right on the main part of the song being about "writer's block" and struggles with creating music - "eight days straight, eight hours each, and not one line" the Pet Cheetah is just another metaphor for his ability to produce music - he talks about raising the Pet Cheetah and training the cheetah to make beats - so once he gets his confidence and grows his Pet Cheetah the Cheetah is "now quicker on the studio than on its feet" - obviously Cheetah's are extremely fast on their feet the Jason Statham part you were actually very close, except it's Josh who loves Jason Statham "take this beat i should delete to exercise" - in interviews Tyler has compared creating music to exercise for his mind (basically)

I believe the Cheetah is the representation of Tyler's first piano, which is a Cheetah model if I'm not mistaken. It also represents his creativity. Also, the Jason Statham part is just an inside joke of Tyler and Josh.

I read somewhere that Tyler wrote this song for a rehearse because he had a writer's block? But they noticed it was so good they put on on the record. It was also about Tyler's creativity. Also they had a joke going on with Josh about including Jason Statham to the lyrics. But the track is amazing. Listen to the VR version and watch the video? The sounds pan from R to L. Yeah, the pet cheetah represents the creativity. In the lyrics Tyler takes care of it. Yeah, the ambience, yet a lot of bass, and hard strikes of the drums, all the details. 🔥

If you have a VR headset, watch that version! They switch from the studio version to live mid way through. There's a Trees moment where it almost feels like you're there amongst the confetti. Also I'm trying to find back the best live version I had if you want to watch on your own too, the first legs of the tour version were awesome, they had a bridge over the crowd to get to their B stage!

"Leave the city" is last song on album and the cliffhanger (right word?) of story. My advice is do it last before "SCALED ICY" album comes out. (I personally believe there's a lyric connection with "choker" which hints of the new story content. My personal guess. Could be wrong.)

'Exercise' refers to an interview where Tyler talks about how writing songs is a muscle that needs to be exercised.

The pet cheetah was an inside joke between Tyler and Josh. He joked about having a pet cheetah named Jason Statham, and Josh dared him to put it in a song, and thus this rap was born. He turned the cheetah into a metaphor for his creativity ("I've trained him to make me these beats"). This song also seems to be something Tyler would work on to get through some writer's block ("I can feel pressure start to possess my mind/So I'll take this beat I should delete to exercise"). Also, fun fact, the deep voice repeating "pet cheetah" at the end is Tyler's brother, Zack, the same one who rapped on Kitchen Sink. Speaking of Tyler's brothers, Jay has a new song release on Friday (May 14)! It might be fun to get your Jumpman reaction out before then so you can sort of catch up when it comes out!

this is my favorite song on trench, the vibes are immaculate. I like the dichotomy of tyler wanting to move slow and perfect everything, while his pet cheetah moves quickly in the studio. I don’t think the cheetah represents anything specific like ned, it might just be about making music in general. i’ve heard rumors that josh dared him to make a song about a cheetah so that might be why he named it something silly like jason stathem, josh and tyler always like to goof around with each other :)

Ned is his creativity. The cheetah is his producer.

I think you understand the lyrics really well, because it seems to be about writers Block, creativity etc. And I think Jason represents his creativity, He could Just take Jason to create something, a Charakter that helped him writing. He used Jason to make his Problem go away by turning his loss of creativity into creativity if this makes sense? (sorry, im Not good at explaining stuff in English, its not my native lamguage xd)

Apparently he was having writer's block and couldn't think of anything to make a song about, so he made a song about writer's block lol.

the line "ill sit here till i find the problem" i feel kinda relates to migraine and how a migraine isnt the issue, its a signal that there is an issue and its discovering that and dealing with that. also "pressure in his mind" if youve had a migraine, you know it feels (depending on what type) it can feel like a lot of pressure on youre head and eyes. dunno if its connected just noticed a cool coincidence

As Testi said I think the whole pet cheetah & Jason stathom thing was like a bet/dare/ joke/ challenge he had with Josh to get it into a song. But I take it as - a cheetah is very fast but only over short distances & Jason stathom movies are always violent - I think with his writing it was tempting to work hard and fast to move on songs but he knows to do justice to his art he needs to ‘move slow’ and not rush it - this would also tie into his feeling of letting the clique down with not his best being put out. So the song is the 2 sides to his writing needs & how he faces & controls it. Just my thoughts

Maybe it is one of those one-word-different-spellings-and-meanings type of thing. I wonder if it is exorcise- like in exorcising a demon or maybe he means clearing his head? He'll take a minute to clear his head = he'll take this beat he should delete to exercise/ exorcise? You know how they imply commas (Lane, boy and Message, man) and dual (duel, ha!) meanings. Just a thought. I have heard/ read some of the same things others have said about the synthesizer being named or a Cheetah brand, and it being named Jason Statham or something like that. Great reaction! This song took some time to grow on me, for some reason. I think I wasn't listening closely to it and the switch from smooth and melodic to rap then back to smooth was confusing. But once I really listened and HEARD it, I liked it a lot. I too was confused about the Cheetah thing and the Jason Statham thing. Just had to do some RU-vid research via comment diving for that!

Naming cheetah Jason Statam was a joke. I have heard Tyler talking about it in a interview. Josh told Tyler some time before Trench to put "Jason Statham" in lyrics...😝😝😝.. This interview is still probably somewhere on yt... And about why pet cheetach... Song is about creative proces and to me Tyler wes this cheetah. He was making great beats really fast just like the cheetah would , but none of them were special, so he decided to use the bad one and make song about his struggles. Ps. I'm Polish. Sorry for my English.🙈
