Dictator implies she overthrew another, legitimate government by force and holds it by force. So, since that didn't happen, it's just a monarchy, just one where the monarch chooses a successor rather than biologically producing an heir.

I think that this is actually a pretty good system. Equestria is an equine kingdom. Each kingdom has it's only ruler that is the same species as the kingdom they rule. It just doesn't make sense if a dragon or a yak or a hippogriff was the ruler of Equestria. Also, there are advantages to being an alicorn ruler and the responsibility that comes with it, finding someone to take over when you retire/step down or get dethroned permanently by a villain. Celestia ruled for several millennia, having several apprentices, before choosing Twilight as her successor. In that time, she's seen her grow as a pony into what a ruler should be. She was already showing strong magical capabilities as a filly, abilities that would later be used to protect Equestria and other kingdoms. We've already seen that Celestia was looking for a successor when she was mentoring Sunset, but then Sunset took an opportunity to seize power through deception instead of building relationships and being a good person overall. It's very likely that she had at least a few other apprentices before Sunset and they all failed a major test. When Celestia sent Twilight Starswirl's spell, it's very likely she had given it to another hoping they would figure it out, but they failed and probably tried to cheat, resulting in the end of their apprenticeship. Twilight passed the test and earned her wings. Then Celestia had to see how Twilight would grow as an alicorn. Would she continue to use her powers for good? She did, defeating several more villains. She goes on to open the chest, friendship quests, expanding their quests outside of Equestria, and opening a school for all creatures to learn about friendship. Everything she does gives her more responsibility and essentially grooms her for a major role as a leader. She even turns one of the most powerful villains (Starlight) into a better pony who goes on to make friends, defeat powerful villains, and run the school of friendship. Twilight has earned the position as ruler of Equestria.

This theory doesn't have much of a leg to stand on. Twilight isn't ruling THE ENTIRETY of Equestria, she's only ruling the lands owned by ponies. Everything owner by Dragons, Hippogriffs, Griffons, Changelings and so on all govern themselves unless it involves or effects ponies. Then the punishment can be granted by the pony leader This means that Equestria has multiple major rulers for each major faction of species

I think she evntually turns starlight glimmer and sunset shimmer into alicorns after several tests like celestia did to see if they were ready to rule with her. Sunset took over the duty of raising and setting the moon, while Starlight brought out the stars and moon. Of course, Cadence is now Queen of the crystal empire, while Flurry Heart is the heir.

Twilight sparkle has never been shown to be able to make or enforce rules on her own. Its only when there's a crisis that she has the final say. look it up and it will tell you what type of monarchy she is.

What about the other kingdoms? The dragons are still going to be ruled by Ember as the dragon lands are still dragon territory. Why should Exuestria be any different? Equestria is still pony domain, it’s still owned by the ponies, it’s just that other creatures are accepted there now. So technically speaking having only ponies rule the pony owned land is reasonable. As for the dictatorship, I think your right and wrong. Twilight would probably see the issues with the system and try to find a solution. However the leader still needs to be an incredibly powerful pony to fend off any attacks. What I think Twilight will do is something like *possibly past* Australian government. We still have our own government and are our own country, but all laws or bills must still be passed by the king/queen. It’s like the other places in Esquestia, in places like Mainhaten. There ponies can’t take all their laws to the ruler so they must have their own form of government. It’s simler to the Crystal Empire. As far as I know, the Crystal Empire is in Equestrian land, making it technically belong to Twilight. However it’s ruled by a completely different pony. What your saying can’t be true due to the other rulers still being in power. Just like the Changelings are ruled by Thorax, ponies are ruled by Twilight. Besides, corrupt alicorns can’t only come to power if they beat the other alicorns. So we’re safe-ish there.

I didn't see any issue with it since it's technically an apprenticeship that decides who's next for the throne. You'd think Equestria would be in good hands if the same moral principles were continuously being passed down to each heir.

voting doesn't solve the problem of rulers being arbitrary. the history of republics has shown us that almost any republic can devolve into a battle between separate internal populations for populational hegemony, where winning top positions merely acts as an official endorsement for hegemonic populations to bully other populations. in the United States, elections have devolved over the past century into right-leaning and left-leaning populations fighting each other and occasionally murdering each other, acting like the other half of voters has an illegitimate existence when one party wins. in the Soviet Union, the ruling party united a large portion of people for some amount of time and then the people began dispersing in various directions and fighting each other over what everybody was supposed to be united on, and effectively split into at least one big population and one small population trying to take each other down. it's arguable the Soviet system was fairer and less vulnerable to totally disintegrating the way the United States did, because it was actually about nominating representatives who were the best for the position instead of splitting the population into competing populations that can only end up hating each other. it really was about representing the people, but it still came apart. this means most of our notions of what "democracy" is are wrong, while a large part of creating a republic is actually in laying out various concentric subpopulations into a greater whole. the republic isn't in the United States voting for high offices or the Soviet Union nominating local representatives and members of the party, it's in the Soviet Union connecting together all the cities and towns into a single economy and civilization or all of the 14 nations into a supranational federation. in short: Equestria will only see democracy if they create a Third-World Marxism similar to certain periods of Cuba or North Korea. the spiderweb-looking pattern of the system with branches everywhere could actually facilitate holding all the internal populations together rather than encouraging them to break apart and fight. (I've been convinced for a while that Equestria looks a lot like Third World countries in the 1900s, but I can't go all the way into that here.)

If a "creature" were to rule equestria the citizens would be in great doubt and that could destroy the influence of the ruler to his subjects furthermore, it could lead to the downfall of equestria because as the homeland of ponies a leader of pony lineage is highly respected thats the reason a ruler tests his "pony" first.

And when she returned she didn't call herself princess nightmare moon. And cozyglow did not become royalty with becoming an alicorn. Then there is Flurryheart, like sawtooth waves analyst in an other video: she is (probaly) destined to be the princess of light (the love to ones caretakers) so it only MAKES SENSE for her to be born as an alicorn.

I think the other creatures are just probably tourists but if they immigrate to equestria that will sway allicorn leadership but the problem is that there are other kingdoms and if a pro kingdom creature becomes ruler equestria might be part of that kingdom and lose its sovereignity just like portugal and spain when the spanish king became king of portugal
