I was a harley tech for 9 years. I had on the job training. All techs should have formal training at a accredited school. I made so many mistakes because I didn't have a firm foundation for repairing motorcycle. Good work. You cover the do's and don't's of repairing bike. I salute you.

On really critical places to 'count on' threadlockers---such as the bearing anti-walk out plate....a small drop of threadlocker under the head, clean and dry of course will help hold the fasteners also. While it also may protect the threaded sections of the use of the threadlocker from oils, etc. ingress. Sort of an insurance policy.

@mikecross1402

they did,and then they put the bearing support plate back on before pressing the cams back in.so why would you need to even remove the support plate to press cams out.

Shane , I have a 05 road king and my support plate does not have the oil hole that you point to in this video or the plug for clean out ... is there a reason for this? A little help please. Thanks Mike allen
@getoffmygrass6974
@getoffmygrass6974 3 года назад
The difference is the two style engines 88a & 88b. (B) is for balancer, which is in the softail engines and is a solid mount engine, that extra oil hole feeds the balancer chain in the crankcase. Your RK is a rubber mount engine (a) and does not have a balancer in the crankcase so that oil hole is not required. I'm sure you have this figured out by now but hopefully it'll help those in the future if need be.

Hey there awesome human (we hope so anyway 😁) I’m an intern here at The How 2 Wrench training center. I’m trying hard to learn each day and answer questions as I learn them. This one is beyond my scope yet and to not short you, it’s a great one for Shane directly. Believe me, I will be paying attention to the answer too as a fellow learner! Shane tries to devote one day a week for time to answer non-member quick questions from fans but the demand is insane 300-400 requests a week! Hang tight and maybe you get lucky he gets to circle back quick. If it’s an emergency and your head is about to explode from frustration or fear? Get Shane’s cell here: how2wrench.com/ols/products/techline-one-on-one As I’m sure you can understand as a working person, life has bills and we have to work first and play later. Due to the overwhelming inbox we are focused on fulfilling Techline and fan member requests. If you need immediate help you can get his cell directly with an order. We thinks that’s an amazing relationship for both and keeps the lights on. Bruce Social Media Manger

That surely is a question for Shane. We try to respond to these questions but with 700 videos on here its hard to keep up with the demand of over 400 requests a week for “a quick answer” it's just become hard to manage in a timely manner. Good news you can catch him directly. You know him from his videos, no shortcuts on answers so he wants you to get everything you need. He mentions service manual recommending checking and replacing worn cam chain tensioner shoes. Then why in the Hell didn't the Harley mechanics that had serviced my bike for years do that before the Mickey mouse piece of crap plastic blew apart plugging oil pump ports blowing out relief ball and losing all oil pressure at 90 mph in the middle of Nowhere Wyoming, ruining a trip with my 2 best friends on Honda Goldwings. Yes I'm pissed off!!!
