Tying the Olive Pheasant Tail Upright Nymph by Davie McPhail (HD) 

I've learned a lot from Davie about Tying Flies. The Mcphail Caddis Pupa is one of my all time favorite flies to tie, and they're some of the most impressive in my fly box. However one thing I cannot understand is how he so easily breaks off the excess thread after wrapping the shank. I try every time and it never works. Hi Davie, is it 5lb nylon you are using? i have tried 5,6, and 8lb but cant manage to get the wee ball when melting it, what kind of nylon are you using, great video and good tip for the beads. Regards, Tommy.

Could this nymph be tyed with natural pheasant tail?

Would you be better off using that knot for jig flies :)
