im going to try this jig I only fish lakes with large mouth bass but I might fish one with small mouth this weekend I am going to tie some of your patterns to see if I can catch them the water is very clear you can see fish 30 feet deep
Love your jig tying videos. Been looking for the banana style jig with light wire hooks and can't seem to track one down. I would appreciate any help. plus how did you modify mold for keeper?
Thanks for watching!!! I personally use the weedless banana jig but if you are looking for the light wire version go to Barlow's Tackle. They have their molds separated into different categories, look under regular and light wire jig molds and there you'll find the light wire version of the banana jig mold. To add the wire keeper I put the keeper in the mold and closed it and then hit the mold with a dead blow hammer, this left an imprint of the wire keeper on the mold cavity so all I had to do was Dremel it out with an engraving bit.
Friend your a perfectionist when it comes to tying a jig. Probably the best I've seen on here. I'd like to know what thread your using. I'm just getting in to it and I think I ordered something to tie a fly with. Breaks to easy for a jig. I'll take all the knowledge you'll give Thanks, J.R
Thank you J.R., I appreciate you comment. I use 210 Denier flat waxed nylon. It is strong and doesn't build up too fast because it is flat. barlowstackle.com/Flat-Waxed-Nylon-P1307/?afmc=e7
Brother SJ, I know this is an older video, I've watched it 5 or 6 times. I was looking at comments and you said you modified your mold. Is the modification the wire keeper? Thanks man!
Yes, the mod is simply the wire keeper. The weedless banana head is different from the standard banana head. The weedless version is thinner but is balanced really well so you can drag it, hop it, flip and pitch it. It also takes a really wide range of hooks and that lets me make the jig in a lot of different ways from finesse to power.
I pour these myself, and I don't think Barlow's carries this jig. If you want a jig that is made so you can add the weed guard yourself you either have to have a custom tackle maker do it or buy a different jig with the weed guard installed and then remove it yourself. If you go to Tackle Underground under the wire baits section you will find custom tackle guys there that can help you.
I have used rubber bands and tying is just better. I also use wire but only for silicone and I normally use it for larger jigs, in fact I have a wire tie video on here I believe. Thanks for watching!!!
I buy from several different places because they all have colors exclusive to them. I use Barlow's Tackle, Fishing skirts .com, Lure Parts Online and Janns Netcraft.
It has to do with the size of the collar, a small thin collar will allow the head cement (super glue) to go through to the rubber. Super glue on the living rubber will make it brittle and you'd end up losing pieces of the skirt every time the jig is pulled over cover, remember, this isn't a fly.
@@smalljaw I have a cement question ref this. Could I use silicone rubber (like RTV) It's strong, soft and flexible and won't make the skirt brittle. Great show, Thank you sir.
@@jenky1044 I don't think that would work because it wouldn't penetrate the thread. It would just be on top and would end up peeling away. You really don't need to worry about the glue making the rubber brittle as long as you don't use a lot of it. Remember, the glues purpose is to seal the thread to keep it from fraying in the water.
@@jenky1044 No problem and I want you to ask questions, that is what my channel is for and why I put my email in the description box. I look forward to seeing you here and remember, if you don't understand something just let me know and I'll try to help!!!
