Hope it runs as pretty as it looks! Great work!

Agreed, always taking a risk when you buy a already "built" bottom end.

Great video on putting the T4 back together, the only thing that I saw that I would have to disagree with is using the head gaskets. VW issued a service bulletin 30 plue years ago to NOT USE THEM on a Type 4. But other than that, looking good!!!!

Good to know!, this motor had them and I've never done them before on any other. I guess we will see how it goes! Thank you for the info!

@@hifivegarage6977 Never, never NEVER use those gaskets! As said above haha. They were a terrible idea. I just tore one down last week and two were blown

@@muzzcovw7674 so far so good with using them, hopefully I don't jinx it. Thank you though!!!

@hifivegarage6977 In a car you can get away with it... but if in a bus, cross your fingers and toes!

I think there is a notice from vw on removing the cylinder sealing gaskets. Going with no seals.

@@1975Kombi1 thank you I've been told a few times and would definitely not put them in next time. But currently still running and driving great lol

As a automatic bus owner as well & still learning, could you at some point take time to explain how to do timing, carb adjustments, etc? I could never find any videos with guys who have automatics! I love to learn how to do it myself.

Great video, I take it you put oil or lube on the o rings when you put them on the push rods... yes cleaning is so important... this is certainly an ideal video for someone rebuilding a VW Combi motor! O, I did laugh when I noticed your puppy would not move and you had to walk all round it... I am often in that position with my pooch 🤣🤣🤣
@hifivegarage6977
@hifivegarage6977 Год назад
The o rings for the push rod tubes? Yes they were actually in a bag with oil in it prior to installing. And thank you, people are often not fond of these motors but really they are not bad! Also yeah thats just how dogs are....always wanting to be close....or just in the way haha
@MH-ev3wr
@MH-ev3wr 6 месяцев назад
It's easiest to not even deal with the push rod tubes until the heads are on and torqued down. The tubes can go on and off without touching the heads.

Yeah I figured that out after, I was used to building upright motors. Now I know! Thank you

Great videos! Any tips/recommendations regarding mounting the Type 4 engine on the engine stand. I have seen posts in forums about how the mounts put stress on the transmission holes. Thanks in advance.
@hifivegarage6977
@hifivegarage6977 7 месяцев назад
I though I showed how I mounted it but I can't find it. Either way I just uses a normal engine stand used the top 2 mounts and drill out where the bottom ones would mount (look in the videos you will see) and I never had issues. They also sell pre made mounts but I know they are expensive that's why I made my own

Also, is there a reason you removed the cooling flaps from the fan housing? Similarly the thermostat, pulley, and cable?
@hifivegarage6977
@hifivegarage6977 6 месяцев назад
This motor didn't have any on it and I only had pieces from the other motor. Decided that being in New mexico ide give it a shot without

@@hifivegarage6977 You just made a BIG mistake leaving out those flaps ........Just because the geniuses before you left them out does not mean it is ok to follow suit .....Learn how systems work so you can make good decisions ..... Besides not having a motor that will warm up correctly day or night regardless of the state you live in and all the benefits of that like better interior heat in the cold times and even motor expansion of all it's parts , by leaving out the flap on the left side that goes over the oil cooling tower that lays on it's side you just goofed .....How is the fan blown air supposed to make a 90 degree turn downward to go through the oil cooler's vertical openings without that flap ? It won't ....The cooling air will just fly over the top of the cooler ....If you had that flap installed which lays like your cupped hand when in the warmed up position, that flap down, you will notice a gap under the flap's pivot point .....Some of the cooling air will go into that slot and the cupped shape will force that air downward through the cooling tower's vertical openings ..... The original style warm up thermostats are now available new from a great place called "Awesome Powdercoat " ......He also has a pretty good rap about how these work generally on his site ...... Do not try to use the Mexican style thermostats on any aircooled VW motor .......

I want to carry a spare Distributor for my 76 Bus. 1800cc fuel injected no electronic ignition. I can't seem to find a Distributor for a type 4 motor with vacuum assist, so that little space ship thing attached. Can you please tell me where I can find this?. Bus Depot and West Coast Metrics aren't sure which one goes with it. Thanks.
