Niinisalo is a really cool area but it doesn’t represent the average finnish woodland that well. Those pine forests in Niinisalo are like a well maintained park compared to an average finnish forest. Most of finnish forests are a pain to traverse with thick brush and small tree growth. And especially in eastern Finland it’s just a never ending rollercoaster of steep uphills and downhills. Because of the ridgelines left by the last ice cap that run north-south-ish through the whole eastern Finland. Geographically great for defence but a bitch to traverse.
@JJooN Very true. But Niinisalo is good representative of more open areas in very south of Finland, where decision will be made. Kymenlaakso/Uusimaa region. We have untold amount of government land to train fighting in forest/swamp/rock mountain/stream/lake/river/forest/repeat terrain north of Salpausselkä.
I am not so sure would our new NATO allies even want to participate in fighting in dark depths of Finnish forests. Nor do we even want them there? Last time Germans had to be held by hand like little children. The middle of Finland is area we will take care with 100% Finnish troops. Allies can and will contribute in very south, and in very north.
Lapland is developing to be really interesting area. Truly multi national force takes care of defence of 3-nation area. Core will be Swedish tank brigade, with Finnish, Norwegian, USMC, and British Arctic warfare equipped units around it.
Sweden can and will throw all their tanks to Lapland, as Sweden is safe from Russian attacks, and Finns can handle southern Finland. Finn/SWE land assets are not needed in Baltic states as Baltic Sea stay open for NATO to move troops from rest of Europe to Baltic states. Russia should prepare Kola and its sub bases to be run over if they start war.
Easy mathematics. In some point you cant deny it, even with the most chauvinist mindset. Russia has 1/25 of fighting power of Free World. Baltic Sea IS owned by NATO now. Russia should turn to their storied Baltic Fleet to 2 RIBs puttering around. In Arctic the crucial sub basing areas are within reach of NATO land forces if the most pathetic dictator since Mussolini wants to expand war.
I was training in that location a year ago and I loved the training with americans they were so nice. but the m4 rifle was a bit bb gun like for me ;) love from finland
Yeah the m4 is garbage, I was in finland for arrow and lock last year as a scout im in a sniper section now we use xm2010, m110, and m107 rifles check them out 😂
A non-military expert, what are those round objects on the dismount crew's (Bradley) helmets? Lights, reflectors or some form to identify friendlies? Thanks
They are part of the laser system that is used to simulate live fire. Each weapon has a laser shooter thing on it that notices a blank being fired and shoots a laser at the same time. The soldiers carry a vest and the helmet thing that pick up the lasers from guns. It tells if you've been hit and to what part of your body and how badly. Quite fun even though it has it's limitations.
They prevent harmful particles, vapors and splashes from entering your lungs or getting into your eyes, and cover you from smelly farts. Not all NBC threats are skin-melting acid clouds.
@@jaden18860 No they didn't. USMC is older than US Army. Didn't you know that? USMC relies on USN for support, to their chagrin. (Apart from F-35, I might add.)
@Kimmo J Our best allies, United States, Brits, other Nordic countries, Dutch, etc will find that in Finland there is many really, really large training areas where Leos, M1s and Challenger 2s can really stretch their legs in company/battalion formations, and room for artillery to fire at their hearts content. Our allies will also find that our citizenry attitude for them is around: "Meeting USMC vehicles on the road, gave them fist pump from side window".
Yes, war should not be happening but it rarely is up to you. If you can't persuade the other guy not to take your freedom, property and/or lives the only option left is to fight back.
