A handover. Spiritually it's an exchange of energy. Eye ball to eye ball. Challenge is thrown down, accepted and picked up. Neither side looks down or flinches. Once the challenge (rotation) has been handed over, those walking aren't visitors (manuhiri) they're family (whānau). Equal in respect. Please note non Maori embraces this tradition. It's a feeling and something you can never un-know. Props for your Reo bro. Excellent. Arohamai for America in these times of Covid19. May you and your whānau be well. Kia kaha

If a video can make u feel some type of way, imagine witnessing it live! The ground shakes when our warriors stomp, the power & energy in the air during a haka will awaken something primal in you that's buried deep down in your soul. It's truly an experience you'll never forget-wait till you see how fierce our children are when they do it. 🥰

'Tumatauenga' God of war. During ww2 on Crete, the German's feared the Maori because his preferred killing method was the bayonet. My father was there with some of my uncles. One uncle was captured and spent the rest of the war in custody. My dad came home married my mum and had 16 of us.

@spudbeard Bro do you even Māori bro? Kaupapa doesn't mean ancestor. Tīpuna /tūpuna means ancestors. I think what you are meaning to say is that the kaupapa (The reason/custom) of the haka is what you said. I also wish to point out that this haka acknowledges Tūmatauenga the God of War, hunting, fishing and cultivation. Ngāti Tūmatauenga (The Tribe of Tū) is the official Māori name of the NZDF.
