Slyvester Stallone told the story about a party at his house in Miami and was confirmed by Madonna and Shaquille O'Neal, that both Seagal and Van Damme were there and Seagal kept telling Van Damme that he could 'easily kick his ass' and 'was going to wipe his ass with the backyard'(??) (obviously trying to show off in front of everyone as usual) - well, Van Damme got pissed, invited Seagal outside, went out in the backyard to wait for him, and Seagal wouldn't go. Seagal then made an excuse that he had somewhere 'important' to go, and Van Damme tracked him down, to a nightclub of all places (real important), where Van Damme again invited him outside to a fight and Seagal simply hid in the corner and wouldn't leave the club until the next day. And this was in like 1996, before Seagal could claim he was out of shape or whatever. I sincerely hope Helwani is just being sarcastic and perpetuating an inside joke with all the Steven Seagal crap, because if he isn't, then I'm seriously questioning his intelligence. I mean come on, a quick check of Seagal's background easily reveals what an incredible fraud this guy is in life, not just in martial arts. Seagal himself has said that he's "god", that he's the "best looking guy in hollywood", has an "amazing singing voice" (and has lip-synced several pseudo-performances), is "not very impressed with Bruce Lee", 'taught Silva the front kick' that knocked out Belfort, also said "Not many people know this about me, but not only am I the most successful action star in the world, I'm also the most successful action movie writer in the world" ??? what ??? You could go on forever and Helwani eats it up? He is such a fuckin turd, I don't care if Helwani is joking or not, Cung Le should've fuking slapped him for even asking a question about Seagal, as if Seagal deserve's Le's time. Fuck you Ariel Seagani.

Cung Le is such a nice guy. Really well-spoken and calm. And at his age, doing what he still does, is pretty awesome.

Total agree with Cung Le. Steven Seagal has done alot for Akido but for MMA i would say the contribution is small compared to the fighters and promoters directly involved with MMA. Thumbs up to Cung Le. I wasnt a big fan of his originally but he gets in the ring to test himself and improve himself. Until you can battle test what you learn or what you teach or have been taught against a SKILLED opponent, you realy dont know how good your skills really are.

Ariel. Steven Sagal has done zero for the development of MMA. In fact he saddles up next to MMA stars to satisfy his own ego. Aikido is not a sport. He is an Aikidoka, an actor but not a fighter.

Some say he's being sarcastic. Usually sarcasm has a sarcastic tone, not a serious non-blinking expression. Ariel needs to keep the interviews from being so personal and accusative. Just report the facts and be objective. Seagal made the world of fighting worse because now all these people who once thought Aikido was legit from his movies, must now realize it was all a waste of time.

There's two separate video of Steven Segal training both Machida and Silva, and in both cases, he teaches them front face kicks. BOTH men have never used a front face kick to win their matches before , and BOTH men won the matches following that training with Front face kicks. Make fun of Segal all you want, but the fact is, he brought both of those guys down to bare fundamentals, and taught them both down thing that won their match for them with a knockout. He may not have contributed much to Mixed Martial Arts, but he has contributed a hell of a lot to martial arts in general.

ive seen segal at these events and in all seriousness can someone tell me if segal has done anythng for mma? like a promotion or something behind the scenes because i neve heard his named mentioned before, and i want to believe that the question Ariel asked has some sort of valitidy becasue in all my years of watching UFC and other MMA events, i never in my life have heard segal's name in this context.

I have no disrespect for Segal; but learning Striking techniques from an Aikido artist is like learning grappling from a Taekwondo artist. I love MMA artist because have evolved from 1 range to multiple ranges. I only wish Bruce Lee would have lived to see MMA.
