Thank you sir for these videos! Absolutely amazing system. Well engineered and thought out. I will be purchasing one for my garage workshop here in Eastport, NY USA. I love that I can make my own accurate custom work tables and I can make ones for my brothers and son in law. Thank you!
My best compliments Peter! BTW i used this video to show my students in university how simple geometry can make you achieve incredible results even if you don't have a CNC with you! Very nice project, simple easy, affordable evn for beginners and it gives the chance to have one festool like table for a minimum effort...I mean cheap one ;) Hope I could get one in Italy too! I will look in axminster site if the sell abroad ! Any way...wayinting for others Parfit's genius ideas! Thanks for sharing! You always surprise me! ciao from Italy!
Very thoughtful and powerful system. I have some hold-downs that require a 3/4 inch hole. Any thoughts on how to incorporate a few 3/4 inch diameter holes into the sheet? Thank you!
Hello Peter, I'm thinking about purchasing this system, can you please tell me what is the maximum depth of the 20mm drill bit. My bench top is 3 inches (76mm) thick?
I got my set from Lee Valley as I'm in the US and am anxious to get started. Quick question... Is there any advantage of MDF over 3/4 inch plywood? I have some 3/4" Garnica ply in my unheated and uncooled garage shop. Because it's not a conditioned space, I'm concerned about the MDF swelling. Thoughts are appreciated!
Hi Dan, Ply wood would be stable but does suffer more from break out on the underside. If there is a sacrificial sheet underneath this will reduce the chance of this happening. MDF will swell if a lot of moisture in air. If its better quality i.e HDF board will be less prone to this. Medite or Valchromat are a good alternative to MDF. I hope this helps. Kind regards Tracey Customer Service
I just pulled 4 sheets of MDF out of the corner of my unheated and uncooled western PA garage and they were fine after probably 25 years there. It ranges from below freezing to the low 90s over the course of the year and the humidity can get pretty high in the summer months. I hauled it to North Carolina about a month ago. It is not nearly as nice as some of the MDF that can be had today though. I just received my part guide system this week and tried it out on some of this stuff. I had a little chip out on the bottom but not too bad, I may buy a sheet of Medite to try too. I think part of it is also the speed you spin the drill bit at and the rate you feed too. I cut a hole though a 3/4 birch ply and had no tear out. I think with a little practice you get a better feel for it. I will have to see if there are any speed recommendations to turn the drill bit in the instructions. I don't ever recall anyone mentioning it in any of the many videos I have watched on the system use.
