DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSS DATA
1) These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
2) These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
3) All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
4) Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
5) Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
6) Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
7) Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
8) All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
9) Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

NATO wasn't created because of the lack of morality in Russia. It was created because Russia had so many tanks and other weapons that defending against a full scale attack was impossible for any single country. The daily loss numbers going on for years is quite literally proof that this was sound reasoning.

In Afghanistan war there were independent media reports which told the losses. This doesn't exist anymore in ruSSia. Any objective reporting brings people to jail. The Putler gang took precaution of this problem.

@davedixon2068 I disagree. If you remember, during the mobilization 18 months or so ago, Russian parents were driving their children to the mobilization officers. If knowingly sending your child to the slaughter isn't enough to make you question things, I'm not sure anything will unfortunately.

Bodies aren't returned home, dead are classed as missing, (the state doesn't have to pay relatives if they are only missing!), wounded go straight back to the front line, so as I said it continues until the families realise how they are being lied to!

BBC Article is spot on JP!!! We all feel that way. But the more I think about it, I am not totally sure that is what is going on. The way the West maybe thinking is not to send to much where it gets destroyed on the ground, cause that will just cost more $. So that could be there strategy as well. It's so hard to tell. I do know now though that, there is way more stuff coming into Ukraine than ever before! So it is hard to understand what the West is thinking. And I think it has to do with stuff getting destroyed, $, and if we were ever to get over run somehow, then all this equipment from the west would end up captured and the west would lose it's edge.

ukraine also has electric arc furnaces which would be useful for recycling the concrete in damaged buildings , its a new technique developed by cambridge university that uses old concrete instead of coke so saves money and is enviromentally friendlier

Oh I will also Back Zelenskyy on his Ratio #'s! I have to say there is a huge difference! The Russians do not care about their people. When we go on Attacks, Assaults, or even defending we have everything you need to do it. Recon/Spotter Drones for quick movements of our Assault or Defense. When the Russians come, they just fire Artillery for an hour or so, then comes the Meat literally! It's like picking off Turkeys which can't Fly! But the problem is it never seems to stop. Like a flock of Chickens on the run! No training, and No Common Sense!

@@parcomolo256 Absolutely the reason why the KIA rate is so high and the Ratio has always been in our favor in this Category. We literally stage Medical Service very close to a site we may be assaulting or Defending, so when the fire has calmed enough we can get people in and out of Combat. The Russians have NO such thing. They leave everything and everybody wherever it is when it gets hit. Just like a Tank you see get hit by a FPV, immediately everyone jumps out and runs in every direction possible, even if the Vehicle is still running and Mission Capable. You will not really find many AFU Troops just leave their piece of equipment somewhere if it is still Running. Very rare! But this will be and has been Russia's Downfall! The Troops are as bad as their Equipment! They are just a Paper Tiger with a ton of Ant's, and a Queen who doesn't care...

2:47 as I explained on X the other day. Howitzers are much shorter range and thus seen by reconnaissance drones much more frequently. Hence their frequent appearance on Andrews lists.

Jonathan I am curious about the series of air strikes , on air frames parked in open apparently undefended airfields,the Ukraine air force started the war with 98 fixed wing Soviet aircraft. After 850 days the air frames must be at the limits of their fatigue life. Coupled with issues with replacement parts it maybe the unservicable and unsafe to reposition 😊 cheers

12:00 - I would add to the logistics nightmare of the Russians. As the nearest stockpiles are depleted, tanks (and other needed heavy equipment) would have to be brought from storage areas further and further away. They will all need a pit stop to be refurbished before being sent on their way. Even though Russia is a rail country, there are not that many lines and with varying traffic load and competing needs (and even fewer lines into Ukraine). This leads to bottlenecks at several logistical nodes with only staggered and infrequent deliveries to the different areas of the front lines. In addition, due to long range strikes by the Ukrainian, staging areas are located further and further from the front lines.

Good morning, everyone. The tank discussion is interesting. I do wonder if the russian tankers are trained to use so many different types of tanks. Also are the technicians able to repair them. It seems that a T-55 made in the early 1950's would be quite different than a T-90. Different parts. Ukraine also would have the same or worse problem with all the different western kit.

Thanks JP for the thorough reporting today. The very slight silver lining I see regarding the hit on Ukraine’s airbase is the use of camo nets. If these nets, in conjunction with hardened shelters are used extensively on the airfields, Ukraine can in effect play the “shell game.”

I wonder if part of the western strategy of slow delivery, is to underline to Russia and the to the World that Russia lost because of their own incompetence and shortcomings, not because Ukraine received a plethora of weapons. Losing because of your own incapacity makes the nuclear option shameful and unusable. Is this possible?

During WW2 the Canadians developed an armoured troop carrier called the Kangaroo using the hulls of redundant tanks. They basically took off the turret and modified the inside to carry 8 soldiers or so I wonder if this is what the Russians plan for the T62s that were recently seen on rail transport in Russia? Especially if they are running out of APC and IFV

Just a fun tidbit, when you build a electrometallurgical plant, you also build onsite emergency generators and you often have multiple simply because of the potential damage so it’s interesting why these didn’t kick in (corruption? Fuel stolen? Not built?) but also on the one that I have seen the plans for, there was an emergency dump chute built in that was designed to dump the process load if something went wrong.

So the 4 men carrying the stretcher was a cunning ploy to fool the Ukrainian drone so those troops could retreat without drawing fire . Or it could be that they wanted to retreat and the only way to get past the brave Chechnian blocking troops was to pretend it was a medical evacuation.

Good morning JP. All love and support for what you do. Just wanted to let you know that I tend to skip the videos you make that rail on Trump and the American political situation. Not because I disagree with you. Actually because being reminded of trumps view on the war and the path my country is going down causes me existential dread. I just cannot keep watching them because it makes me so depressed. I support you making the videos, but if you see a drop in viewership on those videos, that could be the reason, or at least it is my reason. Keep up the good work.

Your comment is well received. I do feel the same at times. But with all of the MAGA fools that keep raising their voice to disparage the US, NATO and Ukraine, there are equal if not more strong voices that are rallying to the cause of freedom here in the US. The MAGA crowd is the loudest and are carrying momentum in the press right now, but the tide will change.

I've been hearing this or that about Yermak since the war began, and at the start of the war when I was trying to get a bead on Zelenskyy and his cabinet, I asked quite a few Ukrainians about him. Opinions were ranged from, "he's fine, it's just a conspiracy theory" to "He's a spy planning to betray us to russia" but no one that I asked who was against him ever showed any evidence that he has done anything wrong. I'm still unclear why he provokes so much speculation, but I got the feeling it was because of how heavily Zelenskyy leans on him. He is certainly Zelenskyy's right hand.

It's frustrating to see the Migs and SU being hit at the air fields. But hopefully the crew are safe. They say eventually, Ukraine will have more F16s than pilots, hopefully the crews of the destroyed soviet era jets will be trained up on F16 having lost their older platforms, if so, it will eventually be an upgrade, expedited by the sore loss of these jets.

Could the erratic use/loss of tanks due to variability in procurement and logistics also be affected by shortages followed by gluts of petrol & diesel ? A lot of refineries and storage facilities went boom, they've resorted to importing those fuels AND are even putting up the prices domestically ! It's only going to get worse russia !

As a career military whatever I was..I had many different MOS’s over 21 years..from S-2..(security) to Army Scout , Platoon Sergeant, Batallion Ammo NCO, to USArmy rifle team….Vietnam, Thailand, Germany and Korea..with a buddy in the Air Force in charge of the White House Switchboard..which I thought was cool, except every time the President went somewhere, Gary and his team left about 3 or 4 days early to set up secure communications..under 3 different Presidents..a lot of people are Monday morning quarterbacks..and that is probably how it will always be..someone who thinks they know more than the professionals on the ground..but when you have been there and done that..all this other stuff is just noise..
