You can definitely see the different in your seat position with the new seat. Besides - the new seat looks sleek and comfy even if it needs to be broken in a little. Thanks for sharing the experience. Oh - I think the little girl with the bike on training wheels was taunting you - haha!!!!

Yes it does set me back almost 2" and higher 1'. We just want on a 200 mile ride today and so far we like it. I did get a small pain in my right real from a small pressure point and if it does not go away I will have to return it. But I think it will work itself out. Thanks for the comment Patrick! And very proud of you dude!!

thank you , I'm putting my vtx 1800r back up to road worthiness and my back has been dreaming about this seat since 2008 . as for that adjusting bolt set it to where you like it , then put a nut in all the way , cut off the excess and back off the nut to clean the threads up.

I can't wait to see the video after you have had the seat for a few weeks. I'm looking to replace my seat and I'm in between mustang, ultimate and Corbin.

Have the same seat on my Valkyrie, 5 years old and would never change it for any other. 20thousand miles on it's and it's still like new.

Hi, first of all what a great and informative video! thank you so much for taking the time to do this excellent review. Do you think this seat would fit on a Chief Vintage? My guess is that it would, based on the fact that the Chieftain and the Vintage are seem to be very similar.

Indian does make an extended reach seat. Its sets you back 2 inches further and an inch higher. It is also wider and has more back support. Its heated as well. It's on their website under accessories/seats... It makes a big difference! Have one ordered for my Springfield. Only 500.oo with my original seat trade in.

Nice video. The Roadmaster seat even looks better. I hope to see an update and see if this solved your problem. The lack of rider comfort for bigger people is what has kept me away from Indian.

Good video! FYI Indian backrest is smaller & rectangular (2018). I too felt very crowded, forward, on a Chieftain & not so on the Roadmaster. I bought the RM. I too came off a Vic. Ultimate says you sit in their seat instead of on it. Do you agree?
@marknorris1717

How easy does the quick release passenger backrest and rack come on and off? On the Ultimate website it states the Roadmaster passenger seat will not fit with the quick release passenger backrest. How does your wife like the new passenger seat?

Everything you addressed is the same issues on my 2016 Roadmaster. I'm 6 foot and not enough leg room. My Crossroads was much better for leg room. Great demo. Is there a follow-up?

I love the seat will be looking into one for my 16 chieftain. But I'm really interested in the trunk options to make it more like a roadmaster. That 3500 price tag is ridiculous
@rn-rvchronicles
@rn-rvchronicles 6 лет назад
Yes $3500 is way to much! I did a video on a Vikingbags leather wrapped trunk we installed on our Chieftain. Check it out! (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aQIrQT5oJyE.html) Be safe and enjoy the ride!

@@rn-rvchronicles i got Viking saddlebags (hard bags) for my 2017 Chief Vintage because i had the stock leather bags (quick release) and put one back on incorrectly and subsequently lost the bag. They're great, look better to my eye then the Springfield bags, and cost $650 shipped. you think 3500 is bad for a trunk, Indian would want $6k if i wanted to put the Springfield bags on my Chief. no, it's not a different model thing, they legit charge that much for the bags (and to mount them, i imagine). so yeah, the Indian name apparently turns things to gold.

Really great video, i,m in Australia just got my RM ELITE, moved up from the 2014 Vintage, 2 weeks ago when i got it i had the Indian extended seat put on, after sitting on a friends one, unbelievable comfortable, back 2 inches and extra cushioning, but unfortunately unbeknown to me it also went up 2 inches.. and i,m 6ft and it was a struggle to Baltimore the bike and touch the ground.. so this video was very interesting for me.. so checking with you how is it going now, ? And didmit raise the height? Cheers

Hey Thanks for the Question. I really like the Ultimate seat but the Chieftain was just not working for me with my long legs. I had back surgery back in 2011 so I really could not get comfortable in the bike. I traded it in on a 2017 HD Road Glide Ultra @ 5 month ago. I will tell you the Harley fits me better but I really wish that Indian fit me...because i really miss that bike. I just could not set in it for long rides. Sorry I cant help any more then what this video offers.

Thx for your video just got my '17 RM, love it! 2?'s Do you still like the ultimate after you broke it in? I had one on my '14 Stratoliner, but it was too firm, though I probably did not give it enough time to break in properly. 2nd ?, what is your garage brand name called? Where and how much? I need one for my work place. I get tired of covering and uncovering, plus the antenna has to be carefully fed under my cover. Thx. We also RV! only have a 33 ft pull behind but going to change to a toy hauler soon. Better half has a Suzuki 1 cylinder 650 thumper she learned on, Had but sold her nice Suzuki 800.

@rn-rvchronicles 7 лет назад
Hi Kevin, I do like the Ultimate better then the original seat. However, with me saying that it is even harder then the one we had on our V-Star 950T. I sat on a friends scoot (has a Ultimate seat too) and his was softer then ours and he has a Stratoliner. So take it from there. It sets me back and gives me more room and softer then the stock seat but not very soft. But I really don't like to soft anyways. People may not agree and that's ok ...But the best seat I ever sat in was the 2014 Ultra stock seat by far! It's a no name portable motorcycle garage. It's not holding up very well and it's only a year old. I'm looking at getting a much better one and the name of it is called: Cycleshell. Much better and stronger with a solid floor.Google it...CycleShell.
@kevinbruce5773
@kevinbruce5773 7 лет назад
Thanks! Yes my stock RM seat is probably one of the best as far as original seats go. I am short however at 5'6'' or 5'7'' ish 200lb. But even I would be fine with add on pegs or a new seat. I thought my Ultimate seat on my Strat was too stiff for my liking, I swapped seats back forth occasionally! I had several Yamahas. 750, 1100, 1700 that got totaled when a kid hit me at 50MPH. Then the Strat, now my new RM. Love it and plan to slowly add on...but sheesh the cost $$$ like you said is ridiculous. The Indian backrest w/ mount is $500! I will probably do an after market from elsewhere. etc

Maybe I miss this point in your video, but If I purchased the same seat from Ultimate Seats as you did, would I still have to purchase the driver's seat frame that goes under the driver's seat? I know that would probably be a question for Ultimate, but your video is super informative. I thank you in advance for your answer.

No, all you need is the back rest. Also, I do have this seat for sale! I just traded in the bike. I could not get it to fit me right....(the bike that is) I'm asking $675 plus shipping. Let me know if interested. I only used it for 4 week. @ 300 miles on it. Paid $885 with shipping. I already sold the trunk but I still have the Trunk base for sale also.

Great seat...You will love it. I got on the motorcycle that way because there is no room on the other side because of where it's parked!,....real close to the back of the motorhome. Great observation!! Be Blessed and safe riding! P.S. Been riding since I was 12 years old.....Oh do I miss those days!! Dirt bike riding on the back trails and roads! Hodaka Road Toad was my favorite! Loved that bike!

I was skeptical to get the seat. Your review helped me decide. Heading from Iowa to Colorado in two weeks. I'm 6'1" I hope it helps. I do feel cramped on the Indian Chieftain. I miss my Victory XCT, hit a deer and lived to tell about it!

@rn-rvchronicles 6 лет назад
WOW!! Glad your still here! The seat will help set you back @ 2". It is a little hard though. it will take a little to ware it in. I had to sale the Indian and want back to HD, I could not get comfortable on the Indian. (I have fusion on my lower back) Picked up a 2017 Road Glide Ultra. Yes, I loved the XCT too. I wish Indian would make something on that frame!! A Roadmaster "TALL" would be great on that frame!! I would be back to Indian tomorrow if they would do something like that! Ride safe!!

Ryan , Actually that's the correct way to get on a motorcycle. Watch how motorcycle officers get on their bikes , they're trained to get on from right side . Reason for it is safety while pulled over on right side of highways . Ride safe ..
@GunnyBB0369
@GunnyBB0369 4 года назад
@Ryan Peterson Food for thought... When I took my motor officer's course they taught us to mount the bike that way. Now that's the only way I mount. From what one of the instructors told us, is that it's easier when you have all your gear on, plus you're not stepping into traffic or falling into traffic (in my case..lol). It took us in the class a while to get used to it needless to say. With my horrible left knee injury (not motorcycle related), it keeps me from putting all of my weight on that leg when mounting. .. Here's a good vid from "ride like a pro" that kinda explains it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8wYohH6bsl0.html

So was there any problem getting the Indian sissy bar [ back rest] and luggage rack on with this seat ?
@rn-rvchronicles
@rn-rvchronicles 7 лет назад
It is a little tight but will fit. Once its on and in lock-down it is fine. I just replaced the back rest with a Indian trunk base and a Viking Trunk. Video on it's was.

@jamesroyster5250 7 лет назад
from a scale from 1 to 10 how hard is to put on sissybar with luggage rack and remove cause i do that quit often i can see its against the bar but have no problem with that.
@rn-rvchronicles
@rn-rvchronicles 7 лет назад
I would say a 2. Only because you have to remove the saddlebags in order to remove the anti theft locking screws from the quick release levers. You don't have to do this if you don't install them so then it would be a 1.

I'm thinking about taking the same route as you by replacing the stock seat of my '17 Chieftain Limited with an Ultimate seat. I noticed in your video that you put the Roadmaster Ultimate seat on your bike, but I have some questions about the passenger seat you added. On the Ultimate website it said that there are two types of passenger seats available as one will not work with the sissy bar (which I have installed as well). Did you go with the option that "won't fit" which appears to be wider, or did you order the "longer and little bit wider" option which is meant for the Chieftain. If you did go with the full Roadmaster setup, how difficult was it to mount the sissy bar once the seat was installed, and second, did it damage the passenger seat aftre repeated use as the manufacturer said?
@rn-rvchronicles
@rn-rvchronicles 6 лет назад
I went with the wider one. It's no problem with the back rest. Only a little tight but once it's on it is fine. Just be careful when taking the back rest on and off. I have no idea why the say it wont fit when it does.

Your welcome Mike. I wish I could have kept the Indian. But even after the seat upgrade I still could not get comfortable on it. We traided it in and got a Road Glide Ultra. It is nowhere as strong as the Indian but at least I can get comfortable on the HD. Be safe and God Bless!!

Michael Switzer Jr. I went to the Ultimate Seat store last week while in the Orlando area, and have a good look at both the Chieftain and the Roadmaster seats. After trying both seats and seeing how they are going to look on my bike (they had a Chieftain on the sales floor), I’m going to be ordering the plain Chieftain seat in a Tall Boy version. I was really impressed with the sales team, very patient at answering my questions and concerns, and will order the seat in a few weeks.
