Larry Mednick is the founder of Evolution Trikes. He started flight trikes and ultralights 20 years ago. Larry Mednick and Abid Farrouqi both started the company and they both started flying very basic trikes with 50 HP motors cruising around the sky in the 40 MPH range.
Evolution Trikes have since developed new robust aircraft with more powerful engines and safety features. Below are some of their aircraft models.

Nice editing on your video. Maybe others disagree but I think it's more interesting than a straight interview. Would love to see you do one on the Kolb Firefly ultralight if you ever have a chance. (Still jonesing for a Velocity episode too!). Love your vids!

"Ultralights"? They are more into the sport pilot aviation. I expected to see ultralights in the video by reading the title. They make one ultralight version that he states can fly early mornings and evenings only. Did you ever see a hang gliding competition in the Owens Valley? They fly for hours in mid-day thermals trying to reach their goal without 100 hp engines. I always thought Larry came from a hang gliding background. I was wrong and see why he says some of the things he says. Evolution does make some great trikes. I love the quality. If you want to go trucking through the air, I would buy one of these trikes. If you want recreational (fly for fun) flying, I would look elsewhere.

Would it be illegal to put a mini jet booster on an ultralight

nope, it's been done many times actually. The trouble with using a jet though is the fuel burn rate is insane. So you need a lot more fuel, which means more weight. For foot launch ultralights (ppg or hg) using a jet means so little fuel that you're talking like 10 mins of power without making the weight unfeasible. You could do more of course with a trike setup, but it's still not practical, if your goal is to go fast it's far better to reduce drag than it is to increase thrust. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ziBe2JwgE1o.html

so saddened and sorry to hear that the candourst [ J P ] plane the silver bullett sling had a catastropic engine failure and crashed !!!!! all the occupants were killed the silver bullett sling was south africas most popular aircraft j p flew it around the world our condolences go out to the families just to mention jp did not go down with the sling the two men that built it went down with it

I'd rather have a Quicksilver, a CGS Hawk, a Phantom, a Kolb, a Challenger, an M Squared, etc. than a trike. A real ultralight aircraft with a stick but this video might change my mind.

I just got a quicksilver mx sport and a guy in my hangar had a Northwing trike. I heard he's crashed once already. I'm steering clear of him and his death machine. LoL

Trikes are super dangerous. Two friends were killed on those coffins. I rather fly my Quicksilver MXL (for 22 years now) not even a single "event" among the Quicksilver gang all these years. Do not do trikes if you care for your life

There is nothing inherently dangerous about them if operated in their flight envelope & limitations. Most fatalities are from high time stick and rudder pilots who think they dont need training.
