Another segment of my Umarex Gauntlet series. This video walks you through how to test and adjust your regulator to achieve the performance the Gauntlet promised out of the box. I noticed that after I posted the video my maths were off by 0.010. The total amount of shim in my Gauntlet went from the stock 0.010 to 0.030. I added 0.020, not 0.030. I believe that If I did add the 0.030 my regulator would have gone to 1.5K.
Just remember, less shim equals less pressure more shim equals higher pressure. My rifle with a 0.010 was only delivering 1065 PSI (1.06K after a final shim thickness of 0.030 I am getting 1325 PSI (1.3K)
If after you build a solid reliable 2" gauge regulator tester like I did and your tank pressure is 3000 PSI and your gauge is showing 1050 or less you may need to adjust that regulators shims.
You can always call Ray @ Ninja Paintball in the USA at 815-477-0007 ext 306. Just have your information handy of how you performed the test and what your test equipment is.

I used my BSPP threaded gauge in the Slide check’s NPT threads using layers of Teflon tape to ensure a seal. I torqued the connection and ran with it as I anticipated the max pressure of 1250PSI and this technique would not be recommended for extreme pressures.
Again it is important to be clear, BSPP and NPT are not compatible and I applied the “any port in a storm” rule in my application but I have provided the adapter link for a proper assembly.

Great info. I built the pressure gauge, and tested my gauntlet. 1100psi. I added the .020, and the .oo5 shims and got 1350psi. While it was tore down I added the barrel band. Thanks Hajimoto!

The most comprehensive video on this process I have ever watched. Very safe and thorough. Thank you so much. I have installed your adjustable hammer spring and upgraded valve and am very pleased to be pushing 15.89 grain pellets at 890-900 FPS. Great job man. God bless.

Great, easy to follow video!! I checked my .25 Gauntlet reg. and its output was just under 1800! After tweaking it, I have it set at 2125, and now get 47.6fpe with h&n baracuda hunter 27.47gr. oellets, which is 11percent better than stock!! Remarkably I am stll getting 20 shots before coming off the regulator!! My fps spread also shrank from 15 to 5 or less on avg. As a side note it now shoots 25.4 gr pellets at 912fps conpared to 870 before!! Now it's time to add a 4500psi tank!! Thanks for the great info!!! :-)

Haji: Here we are four years later and this vid. is still as relevant as the day U posted it. I still have that Gauntlet, but it has kinda slid to the back burner. Sooo! many new toys. But I have the parts and am thinking about, bigger tank, higher pressure, and heavier pellets. Oh! that G. has almost any upgrade that U offered. THANX

The part that angers some is the fact that you have to go through this at all. I mean it should be doing all this out of the box really. I have to keep telling myself its a $300 gun. Thanks for you support.

I thought you might want to know that I did your regulator mod today and am very happy with the results. My regulator, according to the test guage, was set about 1050 psi prior to the mod. It had 3 .005" washers in it when I took it apart. I ended up placing two more .010" washers for a total of .035". This brought the regulator pressure up to around 1350 psi. I did a 10 shot string after putting it all back together. I also used the Crossman 14.3 gr. domed Ultra Magnums. Here's what the chrony had to say. Avg. Vel 890.0 Std Dev 4.85 Min. 886 Max 901 Spread 15 I think I'll leave it there until I can get outside and shoot it at various distances. It won't be today though as the current temp here at 3:30 pm is 7 degrees with wind. Thanks again for showing us all how to do this reg pressure adjustment, Haji.

One thing I forgot to mention when I left this comment is when I had the regulator apart I swapped out the pressure gauge for another one I had around here that my tired old eyes can read a little easier than the one that came on the rifle. Here's a link to a photo of what my gauge looks like now. You can see the new one only reads in bar, but that's ok. www.pbase.com/image/166810419

Another great video about the Gauntlet. As a dealer I became wary of the ceaseless delays by Umarex in actually getting these rifles shipped. It seemed like there must be some failure in production that they couldn't quite get fixed. I decided to cancel my order for this year and wait to see how the first shipments shake out; sort of let others do the beta testing and find out what the bugs are. With the videos you've done on reworking this gun I feel much more confident about the model and plan to bring some in on the next shipping cycle. So keep up the excellent videos. Golden State Airguns thanks you for all this information which I guarantee is going to become our standard prep of this rifle for our customers. PS: just about the best camera work I've seen in displaying the component parts of an airgun; A+

Thank you, G wolfe for the kind words. I have never dove into a rifle this hard before because a rifle that was carrying so much responsibility had never been made before. It was being delayed and delayed and my suspicions were that some link in the supply chain was not meeting spec. When you see a rifle at Shot Show that had never been heard of before and it is being promised to be shipped that same year..... that is a HUGE undertaking. I watched an interview with one of the market and business leaders of Umarex, who spoke several times why Umarex had not done this sooner and recited that the world expects quality when a product comes from Germany. He said they do not want to mortgage their quality standards to become essentially what China does. That being said, yes the world instantly equates Germany with quality engineering and manufacturing so when a German man rifle is introduced at $300 it has the potential to fleece a whole lot of people. I felt it my duty to educate and arm as many people with the pure 100% facts of the rifles engineering and assembly. I know for a fact that my video has given pause to the mass trampling to purchase a Gauntlet. I am ok with that, but I am not so sure the high-level executive is with his previous statements 😉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pi7lpbk1gH0.htmlm11s I have it cued at the exact moment in question.

g wolfe... If Golden State Airguns tunes the rifles for their customers you'll have good word of mouth quickly and loyal customers. All of the good shops are taking some time to prep. Right on. Seeing these practices makes me happy to be part of the community. Yup.

Watched the link you listed. While I doubt that he was being deliberately misleading about this particular rifle it is misleading about Umarex products in a general sense. But then again, Diana has been guilty of the exact same issue with the Stormrider. I know several of my customers were excited about a $200 Diana PCP and disappointed when I had to tell them it is actually a rebranded Snow Peak SP900 exactly as they have been manufactured in the factory in China for many years. A nice $200 rifle but miles from the quality of the German made Dianas (I just received a RWS Diana model 48 and the machining and trigger are flawless). Meantime I absolutely love your videos on this gun. I was also disappointed in Airgun Depot for their recent comparison of the Gamo Urban (actually a BSA Buccaneer in Gamo clothing) and the Gauntlet. I don't know if Air Venturi (AV owns Airgun Depot) now has a huge inventory of Gauntlets and is trying to push the sales, but having both rifles and having shot both out of the box I find it hard to accept that any shooter could rate the Gauntlet over the Urban. The Gauntlet I received has, so far, exhibited almost every deficiency you identified including a bolt that feels like it is being dragged over sand when cycled and an absurdly heavy cocking action. For quality and smoothness there is no comparison between the rifles but the comparison video skates completely over the quality and "feel" differences. Very disappointing. But, please, do not let yourself get discouraged. iId hate to see your videos disappear.

Thanks for the encouragement, Skippi. When we opened our notion was to go the extra mile for our customers to set us apart from the "big guys". I like to point out that rather than "10 for $10" or "20 for $20" we offer our customers "70-80-90; whatever it takes to find the best pellet, for $20 on the low priced guns and no charge for guns over $350". For folks who are local we test and dial in the rifles at no charge regardless of which model as long as they can wait a week or so. Hopefully we can get our web site cleaned up and start to cause the big guys some concern.

Just got my gauntlet yesterday and it's way under powered, my Benjamin NP2 is able to shoot the Piledriver pellets no problem, and the reason I got this PCP was for those pellets. only to be disappointed it has no balls to push them out and get them stuck. I will be doing the regulator test and modifying from there. Excellent video and step by step, I'm a noob but feel comfortable doing this with your guidance! Thank you and keep up the good work Hajimoto! And yes you've actually sparked my interest in this gun, not the company or their spokesmen.

Joe first I'd like to thank you for the kind words and taking the time to view my content. Did you know that PileDrivers are not designed for Break Barrel rifles and in fact are made for PCP rifles only yet your NP2 is outperforming your Gauntlet? Something is not right about that. Do you own a chronograph? What is the FPS with a Typical Crosman 14.3 grain pellet? If you are looking to have your Gauntlet create more power then I would say the best place to start is to install the super tune kit and add 1 single 0.020 shim in the regulator. You will be much much happier with the performance of the rifle.

@@HajimotoProductions unfortunately I don't own a chrono yet. Those are my next goals for this rifle, just sucks one has to do all this when it should be done from factory. I will be building the tester this weekend and going from there. The super tune kit is on the list as well. I'm excited to unlocking this rifles full potential!

Great report on how to adjust the regulator. I'll probably crank mine up a little when I get it. I've watched several videos from almost a year ago and they all said it was regulated at 1100 psi (not the 1250 stamped on the side), so yours wasn't far off the advertised pressure. Looking forward to your future videos.

@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Hey James! Thanks for to the view and comment. Yes after talking with Umarex they admitted that the regulator should have had the stamped language of 1250 changed to match the specification of 1100. Either way, My rifle is now getting the performance to suit my use. I am very happy with the Gauntlet.

Get Hajimoto's big bottle with1400 PSI adjusted regulator. I did along with the super tune kit and smaller spacer for my .22 Gauntlet. What a difference. Don't think about it...just do it. I was not getting anywhere near the 900 FPS that was advertised...most shots were around 700 FPS..... Would not penetrate a 3/4 inch piece of plywood. With the Hajimoto products, I get 895 FPS and it passes through the plywood and halfway into the second piece behind it. My shot count went up and the velocity is really constant. What is nice is that I can now adjust the power from the outside and that is excellent for indoor rat and pigeon shooting in the barns. Thanks Hajimoto!

If I am reading your gauge right, it looks more like a 200 psi increase rather that the 300psi, you spoke of. But if 200 gave you the results, as I saw on your next video, wow!, I'm impressed. Thanks for the video. Very informative, indeed! And yes I did order some parts from you yesterday, to include a couple of the tank barrel support brackets. Again, Thanks!

Mr. Hajimoto, I watched this video now for no less than 10 times, and every time it becomes more interesting and clearer. I crunched some numbers and came up with that for every 0.001" in spacers, it would raise the pressure by 150 psi (10.34 Bar); also, each 3 psi would raise the pellet velocity by 1 fps. I used simple algebraic gymnastics and some statistical mechanics with a regression formula analysis, and your numbers jive to better than 98% of the theoretical calculations. I think its our differences in the rounding off the decimal portion. Great video; even though you made it five years ago, it is like new news to me. Word of advise, in three years there will be a world emergency pandemic. FJB Out!

Thanks for your time putting this video together, Haji. I'm placing an order for all the equipment I'm going to need to modify my regulator as you did. When I ran mine over the chrony, I used both 15.89 gr and 18.13 gr pellets. My max velocity with the 15.89's was 786 fps and of course less with the heavier ones. I'll be anxious for any follow-up you do that shows how your mod changes the usable shots you can get with the reg at higher output. Great information you've provided to all Gauntlet owners.

You are very welcome Richard. Well, one nice thing about building a regulator test device is you can truly measure your gains, anything less is unrepeatable. You also expand your toolkit for future projects. After reviewing my photos closer, I noticed that I was misreading the gauge and I actually have an end pressure 1350PSI not 1400PSI. I think I may put the regulator apart and add another 0.005 to the thickness. Ata come point I will reach the hammer springs limit to open the valve and FPS will start to drop so I have to find that balance. If you are on FaceBook be sure to visit my FaceBook page Hajimoto Productions or the GTA forums. I tend to update those social media outlets regularly between videos. Thank you for your support, Richard.

I got all the shims and parts to make the tester but as I was putting the tester together, I wondered if you used any thread tape on the two connections. If you covered this somewhere and I just missed it, sorry.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Hello Richard, It never hurts to add thread tape to midgate leaks. The Ninja slide check has the black sealer on the threads so that would not NEED tape but your gauge could benefit from a ration of tape. Please be sure to note that In my video I stated that my increase was to 1400 when in actuality as you can see in the video its more like 1300. I have left it at 1300psi and here is a screenshot of the results over 50 shots shooing 14.3gr .22 pellets. i.imgur.com/hi9K9jr.png
@rtownsend744brad
@rtownsend744brad Год назад
If the threads are NPT, the threads are tapered which makes the actual seal. You only use 1.25 revolutions of thread tape so it gets between the contact surface. A thick glob will just be pushed back as you tighten. This tape helps seal impurities in the metal like porosity or pitting.

My Gauntlet's bottle gauge and fill connector were not centered in the openings when I received my rifle. I watched Joe Brancato align the fill connector by loosening the two grub screws and turning the tank slightly. I screwed my tank in, moving the gauge and fill connector an 1/8th". I didn't chrono. my gun before I made the adjustment. I will do so as soon as the weather permits. I imagine that slight adjustment increased the regulator pressure some. I have a steel Gamo pellet trap. All the 21.14 gr. Baracuda Match pellets I fired into it were smashed completely flat, like little led pancakes. The 50 pellets I fired did significant damaged the back plate at 20 yards.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Yes, you are absolutely correct, there were lots of folks that were not getting all the air pressure to the breech because of air bottles not being completely tight. As you pointed out when the bottle is properly tightened the gauge will not align with the foregrip opening requiring the collet grub screws on the regulator to be loosened in order to rotate the bottle and collet to align the gauge. The H&N 21.14gr is a nice weight pellet and I suspect your FPS will be somewhere around 680-720 with that pellet. It sounds like you received a performer and it also sounds like Joey B saved you some headaches! Enjoy your new Gauntlet!

Thank you for the video and the how-to. I have had nothing but problems with this gun since the day I bought it, from hard to get pellets into the breech, with or without the magazine, to the slightest bump on the barrel and POI changes, to this problem...low velocity. I tried fixing the problem myself and only got one of the three issues corrected which were POI changing. I fixed it with your barrel band I purchased from Jefferson State. I just sent the gun back to Umarex today for the others because it has a 3-year warranty that I thought was 60 days from the purchase date. Southern Gunner suggested that I probably should have done it from the getgo...and he is right. Their technical support at Umarex is suspicious of a bent pellet probe which I don't agree with but whatever, as long as they get it fixed. I know the bolt looks and feels as though it's about to fall out. If it comes back after they get done with it and all that's fixed, and it's still shooting slower than I want, I will be referring back to your video to solve this problem. I already have the set up as you showed us here for testing the reg pressure. I and am curious if you got your gun to the velocity that you wanted? 920 FPS I believe you said with a 14-grain pellet. I hope mine will achieve that as well when done. I prefer the Daisy 15 grain Hollow Points from Amazon for 6.99$ for a tin of 500 and outshoot the JSBs of similar weight. They shoot cray good out of my Libertys out to about 50 yards, 1" or so and mushroom-like crazy. I have taken rabbits out at 90 yards one shot, clean kills with them. The leave the muzzles at 1035-1055 FPS and seem to be very stable at that speed in flight. I have several of the LIbertys in .22 and a Bullboss in .25 so range time won't change since the Gauntlet has basically been collecting dust with all the issues it had. The grandkids didn't even want to shoot it and I can't blame them. You practically had to use a mallet just to push the pellets into the chamber. Jefferson State offered me and other veterans a discount for sending them a copy of our DD 214 which is cool, so probably going to install your Super Tune Kit after the Gauntlet comes back. Does this kit make the cocking effort easier than the 26 inch-pound spring that in it now? Will your kit enable my gun to push an 18.5-grain pellet to 880-900 FPS? Having the smaller poppet it should let more air get to the pellet, providing the regulator is putting out sufficient pressure...right? Looking forward to your reply...and Thank You for all you do to help air gunners like me.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 4 года назад
Heath when you get your repaired/replaced Gauntlet back you need to shoot it at least 200 times tobe sure it is a good working and operating rifle. Be sure that you understand that the installation of the tuning kit or any other internal mod will void your warranty. So the first thing you want is to be sure the rifle is mechanically sound and you do not have a bad barrel. Yes a combination of a Super Tune Kit and regulator pressure output will provide you with the adjustability to achieve tunes previously discussed.

I don’t have a Gauntlet but wow! What a great instructional video! I bought a Barra 1100z. I’d like to get more accuracy from it. I’ve not made any hammer spring adjustments yet. Your comments about speed make me wonder if an adjustment there could tighten up my groups. I plan to get a reg for the gun when Barra releases one.

Umarex Gauntlets use ninja tanks and regulators... for those of you that don't know what that is, they are a major paintball regulator and tank company. They sell "rebuild Regulator kits" that come with the exact shims you need. The kit usually comes with 5 shims... but once you buy one kit that are usually $22 you know EXACTLY what size shims you need, the difference in thicknesses and the output pressure adjustment you will get with the different thicknesses of each shim. The rebuild kits can be found on Amazon from paintball shops. The kits also come with o rings, a new internal valve and a few plastic "balls" that go inside the valve stems, and a new burst disk ( but those burst disk will vary in psi range to the specific kit you buy ie: 1800k 2k 3k and 5k).. and new plastic o ring disks. It's nice to have spare parts, washers, shims, etc, etc etc.

Great information. While this information is helpful, the info is accurate but is narrowly focused on only one regulator manufacturer and cannot be generally allied to all Gauntlets. I would like to caution readers that not all Gauntlets come factory built with Ninja Regulators and not all regulators will react to a known shim thickness the same way. This is why custom shimming with output verification per build is so important. We have witnessed many regulators of the same build type, react differently to the same shim thickness and produce as much as 200PSI +/- which is a 400PSI differential. As for rebuild kits, again rebuild kits are designed to be used only for regulators they were intended for and may not work in any other regulator or produce the expected result.

Excellent video, I have the same tank and reg. on my Hammerli 850 .22 cal. My Hammerli weighs only 5.5-lbs without a scope, with a bugbuster 3-9x32 IR AO scope 6.4-lbs all up this is my light weight rifle, as I didn't want to lug around a 10+ pound gun, plus 2 lbs for a 4-16x40 w/scope, i have several of those heavy weight guns, but they dont get shot as much as my light weight guns do. You were right in saying that, it certainly is a Ninja Paintball Regulator. I spoke with them extensively and the Gauntlet reg is essentially the Pro V2. I just wish that Umarex would share the max pressure rather than hiding behind the legally advised 1250psi on the regulator. I am sure that if the rifle saw 1400psi it would not fail but they won't say that. Shrug, thanks for the view and comment TPV.

Patrick you are very welcome I thank you for taking the time to write to me. I have things to try before you give my friend. Please be sure to take your shroud off and be sure the air stripper at the end of the barrel is not cracked if it is cracked, contact Umarex for a new one, if it is not put the shroud back on and snug it up and try again. Be sure the forearm plastic cover is not touching the bottom of the barrel shroud. When you handle the rifle make sure you are not handling it by the barrel. Degas the rifle and remove it from the stock and double check that all the fasters are good and tight. Check the pellet probe o-rings that they are silicone lubed and not scalped, if they are damaged, contact Umarex for new ones. Try those things first and let me know how it goes.

checked the items you said and all was well. it was 17 Degrees here last night and put my gun outside for an hour without touching the barrel zero didn't change. leaned the gun on the wall then grabbed by the barrel and sure enough the zero changed. that was the problem. you can't touch the barrel at all. i am sending mine back because as careful as i might be in hunting situations i would never have confidence because the zero is so easily changed by such a small amount of pressure on the barrel. thank you for your help. after looking at many guns i don't like the ones with tanks that stick out. i like the stock protecting tank and or barrel. what would be your recommendation for pcp for mainly hunting in the 5 hundred dollar range is a regulator needed. i hate to tinker with guns. i am thinking of a marauder in .22

On page 6 of the Gauntlet manual it says" Only specific Umarex brand regulated tanks with an output pressure of 1,150 psi should be used in the Gauntlet". I saw that when I first got the gun and thought it strange that the tank said 1,250. I would suppose that Umarex requested the 1,150 and the tank manufacturer set the regulator for that.

Good informative video, Hajimoto. Saw the Umarex post. We shot a couple of different pre-release guns and now production. From the outside looking in and based on time with the gun it seems the word "underpowered" is the trigger here, so to speak. The point being made appears to be that the gun is not underpowered, but like any firearm, likes a certain ammo, in this case a heavier one. We're curious to see if your tests result in the same accuracy and how many shots you will get.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Hello American Airgunner, its a pleasure to (read) you :) While I do think what you are saying is somewhat accurate in that we are talking about "underpowered", but the context in which we are having this conversation is not created from consumer expectation. It is created by the manufacturer not being consistent in its printed and stamped performance specifications. A person should not fall into a category of "unrealistic expectations" based on printed, provided specifications. My point in the is video was that one of the major selling points for the Gauntlet without a doubt is that it is regulated. That said, if a shooter takes his brand new .22 caliber Gauntlet out to the field and fires off some 14.3gr pellets and sees numbers 600, 700 or under 800 in general, it is not unreasonable to then read the manual to see that the manual contradicts the regulators stamping language of "OUTPUT PRESSURE 1250 PSI". So the owner of the new rifle does some safe and industry acceptable testing and sure enough the regulator is NOT 1250 output it is 1050-1100PSI. You've watched my video you seen it play out for yourself. The issue here is, rather than Umarex who pedeled this Gauntlet as a "For the people" type sales compaign to lawyer up and corporate CYA rather than own the screw up and work with the community to a fair resolve is sad. As far as the Gauntlet, I belong to every major Airgun media outlet and all you will ever read from Hajimoto is that the Gauntlet is worth every penny and no other rifle in its price point can compete. So I am not on some "Underpowered" campaign but rather on a step up and continue what your campaign started Umarex, dont weasel away from the inconsistencies by hiding behind some legalese.

At the 9:18 mark when you are talking about removing the bottle try this: unthread the bottle a couple of turns so the pin disengages the valve, then use your degassing tool to degas the gun. Only the air left in the gun will be degassed and the bottle will unscrew without blowing off the o-rings.

Haj, nice video. One comment regarding removing a pressurized tank... If you turn the tank 1/4 turn, the pin is backed off the detent ball on the regulator. You can then degass the gun to remove the pressure in the compression chamber without losing air in the tank.

If I take the tank off pressurized and I use your regulator tester system without emptying the air tank, can I test the regulator output safely?
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Yes you can as long as the ASA top knob is backed out completely, the check is towards the ASA valve, you can safely screw the ASA onto the tank. Once on, make sure the check is slid towards the ASA you simply turn the ASA top knob in to charge the gauge with pressure. Whatever is shown on the gauge dial is your regulators output. Once you know what it is, back the ASA top knob out again, slowly slide the check towards the Gauge until all the air is bled out of the tester, now unscrew the tester and your bottle is still full

With the precision of the chronograph, pressure measurements, dial calipers, etc., one variable that isn't addressed is a vital contributor to the chronograph's results: Pellet weight. I would expect that narrowing the spread of how much the tested pellets weigh would also affect the varied FPS and FPE measurements. Since those measurements are the basis for the regulator's adjustments, minimizing the "drift" would seem appropriate. Your thoughts?
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
You are absolutely correct! The gr weight of the pellet is a HUGE contributor to what the feet per second are of any given pellet. Typically a heavier pellet sent down a barrel with the same amount of air as a lighter pellet will result in the heavier pellet being slower. Each pellet was straight out of the tin and not sorted so yes, the deviation in numbers could be from weight as well. Some of the chronograph number deviation could be from that BUT the FPS average increase is a definite increase overall.

This is great, super detailed instructions on all steps and it's interesting to see it's only delivering 1100. I did have another thought, after looking at your FPS charts all side by side, you did get about 12 degrees colder. The tank was purged and refilled between tests for modification, but is there any way this is altering your output +/- in any way? Also, hope you liking that 32 degree testing.. brr bruh.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 5 лет назад
Well not all of us can live in Devils Canyon! LOL, When any work is performed on the regulator the tank will go through a series of partial fill and purge cycles to ensure the belleville washers (spring) has settled and erroneous reading are not the result.

Thanks! Nice clear tutorial. I've seen those type of shims before.. Years ago, I had a defective regulator on a new FT rifle. The fix, was a new regulator! Nice to know how easy it would be to tweak a Gauntlet, (if I decide to buy one). I would likely want to bring it down to the 18fp range.. Making it perfect for rodents and it would make less noise.. :)
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Richard thanks for the view and comment. Yeah, regulators can fluctuate based on the Belleville springs or shims and only 0.005 can be the difference from 1100PSI or 1000PSI. I agree Tron shot count was more of a priority than producing a 25FPE rifle. Because it is an entry level rifle and not necessarily an exclusive hunting rifle, Thye are thinking of the target and plinker who does not necessarily have a 4500psi tank or compressor just a pump.

Received my Gauntlet yesterday first thing I did was vent and diffuse shroud according to your video...Thanks Hoji for that suggestion. The first thing I noticed was that the air tank was not screwed into the gun tightly. When I tightened it the gauge and fill valve struck the bottle cage and would not line up properly. I put a rubber gasket like what you would find in the female end of a garden hose that screws into wall spicket between the first fitting that screws into the gun and the second fitting that has the gauge and fill valve, then torqued it down as tight as I could get it. This lines things up perfectly I'm just concerned about the valve operation once I fill up the air tank. Any thoughts on this from you would be greatly appreciated. Only wish I could show you pics.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 4 года назад
Thank you for your kind words and support. As for the washer used to allow alignment. Here are my thoughts. 1) If the material used in the washer is not proper for a 1100 to 1900 PSI air environment it could burst into flames under the pressure. If it is PTFE, Nitrile (Buna), Neoprene, EPDM Rubber and Fluorocarbon (Viton). Silicone and Kalrez® you are ok. I would keep an eye on this installation after some use. Next time the PCP needs a refill, you will degas the gun remove the tank and inspect the washer for any degradation of the surfaces that would see the 1100 to 1900 PSI, if none your good. 2) The regulator and HPA system will work just as they would before, no issue.The only concern is when the tank is uncrewed to far out and the pressure release pin/ball seal is not opening but if your PCP is operating under pressure, your good to go. Be safe, Hajimoto

I finally got a chance to check the output pressure of my Gauntlet's regulator and it came in at about 1350 or so psi. I say, "About 1300 psi" because the needle and the hash marks on my tiny little gauge are just fat enough to where it's hard to get an exact reading. It so hard to be sure due to the thickness of the lines that there could be a plus or minus of about two-hundred-plus psi. Initial the out of the box chrony numbers shooting the 14.3 gain pellets was an average of 860fps. The confusing part of this was that I too took my regulator apart to see how may shims it had in place because I planed to up the output pressure to 1400psi hoping to get my velocities up to the 900fps range. My regulator had no shims in place. (none whatsoever) Not only that but it only had a total of ten Belville washer in place. This is the factory untouched regulator before I installed the one lone .005" shim in an attempt to get it up to 1400psi output pressure. I tested it over the chronograph after installing that one thin shim and from one full magazine of pellets I was getting back to back 864-865fps. No joke; it didn't waver from that. After installing that one shim the output pressure gauge didn't appear to move from the original 1300psi mark and all I gained was an average of five feet per second more. I was really expecting a few more feet per second than that. I'm thinking of going back in and installing another .005" shim to see if that gets me to the 900fps mark I was hoping for but, I don't want to push my luck. If I do that, I think I'll take the pressure gauge off of my hand pump and check the output pressure with a slightly better gauge to see if in fact I'm anywhere near the 1400psi output pressure range. Also; I wanted to ask you about the fit of your pellets. In my Gauntlet, when I push the bolt knob forward to load a pellet I get a good amount of resistance before the pellet fully enters the chamber. From the feel of it, it's as if there really is no chamber to speak of. It feels like I'm having to force the pellet directly into the lands and grooves of the barrel. It makes me wonder if this excessively tight fit of my pellets into the "Chamber" is causing enough friction as the pellets move down the bore, to keep me from getting the higher velocities I should be getting; if in fact my output psi is 1300 or so. To confirm this,I guess I'll have to build me a pellet sizer to bring the diameter of the pellet skirts down just a bit. That's the only way I can think of to find out if it's the fit of my pellets that's holding my velocities back. Funny thing is, in my break barrel air guns I had to make a set of sizing dies to Increase the diameter of the skirts to get the pellet to shoot the best. Air guns can be really quirky sometimes.

My opinion is the following. If you are are going to shoot 14.3gr pellets exclusively, you are int he sweet spot at 865. In fact, I would be willing to bet if you shot JSB 15.89gr you would see even tighter groups. A combination of a superior pellet and the pell will slow to around 810-830ft/s which will be more stable. The regulators are built to reach whatever PSI they are shooting for, some have shims and others ill have none, all normal stuff as long as it performs to spec. .005 shims are very small and will yield very small results. It is slower but safer. You need to shoot your pellets are different speeds to find the sweet spot for that style of the pellet. This is why the Gauntlet Tune Kit is so important. It allows the Gauntlet owner to speed up or slow down his/her ft/s by simply turning an Allen wrench.

It turned out to be just as I suspected. The little manometer gauge I was using was off by almost 300 psi. I removed the gauge from my hand pump and used it to re-checked my output psi. The output psi read 1150psi on the new gauge. That kind of explains why when I went back the next day and rechecked the chronograph readings with that lone .005" shim I installed, I had lost the measly five feet per second gain I'd gotten the day before. It took me a couple of tries but I now have it dialed in where I want it. I'm averaging 918fps with an 8 fps spread in velocity shooting the 14.3 grain Crosman Premiers with no loss of accuracy. I just build and installed my new shroud mod with a secondary air splitter and everything is working perfectly. I'm a happy camper now; and much of that is due to great video tutorials like yours. Many thanks Hajimoto.

Great Video, Great Reviews, Great information, Great Advice. Thank you for Being so thorough. Im trying to ADD power to my New Ninja 22/3000 In-line Air tank by adding more shims which can most definitely have more power. Though if done incorrectly? You can ruin your new air tank? Or even have serious injuries. lol Must take serious precautions...lol BUT i want to do this. 🇺🇲🤜💥🤛🇺🇲. Tj

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad that my content has provided you with some useful information. As for increasing your PCP's operating pressure, there are some basic safeties that are in place to insure that catatrophic situations are reduced like burst disks and controlled shear failure measures. The best advice I can share is to get yourself a test fixture so you can see off the PCP what the regulators output is and then work towards your target. Just keep in mind that the higher the operating pressure the more energy is against the valve face keeping it closed therefore requiring additional hammer strike energy to achieve useful valve dwell. The manufactuer prints maximums on the PCP as well as the regulator and tank so use those as safe limits. As for the tank, know that if you are in the US the Department Of Transportation (DOT) have rules associated with high pressure vessels. In this case it would be DOT 3AL and know that the test requirements for these tanks far exceed any operational pressures you should ever see. The rule is the 5/3 rule. The tank has a service pressure of 3000PSI, Divide by 3 = 1000PSI, now multiply that times 5 which equals = 5000PSI. That 5000PSI is the pressure that the tank needs to hold without failure. As for the PCP, respect the limits provided by the manufactuer but just know that there are resonable variants in what maximum is. Be safe

Wow! Great video. 👍 Just wondering if the shot count changed when you went from lower pressure to the higher pressure? I am thinking about getting a Gauntlet now. :))

If you install the Super Tune kit, yes, shot count increased by 30%. Before you buy Please know I offer a completely tuned and modded Gauntlet in .22 which can save you a lot of time. Drop me an Email if interested. Admin@HajimotoProductions.Com

My guns reg says 1,100 on it and looks different than yours. There was no ball near on in front of the spring, but just a cylinder with a pin. Can you post a more detail video or pictures here or on AGN showing search part in the top hat deal of the regulator? Thanks sir!

Haj thanks so much for the great info. I bought my Gauntlets because of you and others that figured these things out for the rest of us. Thanks again. Question? To increase output pressure to 1400 psi are any other modifications of the Gauntlet action, barrel or shroud etc... needed to operate the gun safely and accurately?

Thank you for the kind words J Burns, I appreciate it. The only thing I would recommend is that you install a Super Tune Kit so you have the ability to adjust the power as well as get far superior valve operation efficiency resulting in more shots and more consistent shots.

Hey Haj! Such a great helpful vid! Fantastic! I just bought a reg set to 1200 psi and put in two 0.0500 shims. Got 885fps with a 14.3grain Crosman Dome. The thing cost 8.95 at AliExpress. It's spitting out JSB Heavys 18.13grain at 830fps. I'm trying for a little more with 1 or two more shims perhaps? What say you? And a question...why is your goal fps around 920fps? Is there an advantage around that speed? Thanks so much keep up the great work!
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Hello Andy! It sounds like you are doing great things with that Gauntlet man! Nice work. As for my goal of 920FPS, The pellet design that is the most stable in is one that has drag introduced to ensure good flight. That shape is the Diabolo shape. The Diabolo shape has an FPS limit of about 920ish before it becomes unstable so I try to get as close to that speed as possible to get the most foot pounds of energy from the round. I hope this helps! Thank you for sharing your adventure Andy.

Hey Haj, I have gone back to this video several times, it's that good! NIce work! I put four .0100 shims in the reg. and am getting around 1800psi. on the tester. Is this too much? Dangerous perhaps? Just wondering. I haven't shot it yet. I will tomorrow to test the FPS over the Chrony with JSB Heavy 18.13gr.
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
Yes too much! The burst disc is only rated for 1800PSI! Remember you are increasing the regulator pressure at your own risk as Umarex does not endorse nor recommend anything about 1100PSI. I personally only go to 1400PSI as that is all I needed to get the FPS I was shooting for. But with the Valve and Hammer spring mod, I am able to drop the reg back down to 1100 and get over 100 shots per fill stock tank.

Yeah 9.8gr is the minimum in my 177 break barrel airguns I agree lol. I'm planning to get one but I was disappointed with the defects and power (my 177 break barrel airguns are 20fpe and up lol. Just my preference as I like range). My hatsan 125 25cal gets 31fpe with air arms 25cal in 25.40gr pellets.

Mr. Haji, I see your reg. Has printed 1250 psi output, mine has printed 1100 psi out put, do you think I can do the same thing with my guantlet with out having a accident? Thanks Ruben
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 5 лет назад
Ruben please understand that this video was made almost 1 year ago. At that time Umarex was shipping Gauntlets with the incorrect regulator pressure printed on them. The output was 1100PSI but the manual said it was supposed to be 1150PSI and the regulator had 1250PSI printed on it. Umarex has since fixed the issues in the incorrect printing.

Just an FYI to tag on. I don’t know what kind of quality control they have at air Venturi but the gauge you show in the video is the same style that is on my CF tank and my gauge reads 200 to 250 psi lower than what is actually in the tank after checking against a few other gauges. I hope that is not the case with your gauge reading low so that your initial findings of barely 1100 psi was actually 1250 or 1300 psi to start. Just something to be aware of....

I'm UK based and the main issue is not power to us. our concern with a reg is the spread, we want repeat-ability and if the extreme spread is 30 ...even 19 that almost negates the reg. anything over 10 is going to have an impact on accuracy

Sooooooo....... I got my Gauntlet in last week in 22 and while I don't have a Chrony yet, I'm getting about 70 shots from it. The issue I'm having is that I cannot for the life of me get the thing to keep a fixed POI. I've hit the forums and seems like a few people are having the same issue. If you tap the barrel even the slightest, the POI changes. If I there is not a fix for this soon, I might have to return it. 😔
@HajimotoProductions
@HajimotoProductions 6 лет назад
I think the issue you are having is that the barrel shroud is being hit touched or moved. Do this, Tighten the shroud so it is tight, not torqued but tight, then back it off 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn loose. Rezero the rifle and do not touch the barrel shroud again. Tell me what you got. Also, make sure the forearm shroud is not pushing up under the barrel shroud and causing an issue like I described in my teardown video.

i am having the same issues i have shot over 1000 pellets and still haven't figured it out it shoots great groups but the next time i go to shoot it is is 1-2 inches off in different directions then for a whole tank it is right on i was even blaming it on the cold from shooting doors to hunting squirrels outside at 20-25 degrees i have missed so many then shot a tree and its off relight in the woods the the next day shoot inside and its off just about ready to send it back ugghhhh!
@sohotmusic1
@sohotmusic1 6 лет назад
Man, sorry to hear that! But thats exactly what happened to me even after trying Hajimoto's suggestions. I tried to make it work but after taking it on a hunt after being zeored in and then missing 3 shots in a row because my POI was waaaaay off, I sent it back. Accurate gun, but I'm an avid hunter and having complete confidence to make a clean ethical kill is of upmost importance.
