You earned it! That GoPro mounting method is perfect! I added some nylon ‘belt keepers’ under the backpack mount to lift it up some, since it wants to slide to the bottom of that strap. My fishing buddy David bought the same chest pack and we will mount his camera the same way next steelhead season. 👍🏻

Great review. That backpack section would also be great for storing some type of raincoat when the weather turns bad.

Yeah, a packable rain jacket would fit. I used it for the first time today, I was surprised how much stuff I got in there. The net holder didn’t work too great for my steelhead net, it’s designed for a trout net, but no worries, I expected that.

What is the brand and where did you purchase that specific style of bands/elastic strings that hold your rods together? This would be when you break down a two piece pole, currently I use hair ties because I’ve only found these extremely long bands they sell at fisherman’s or sportsman’s.

The are called “Fishing Butlers”, I’ve got them online and at “The Caddis Fly” shop in Eugene. They are only a few bucks a set, I’ve got a set for every rod I own. They cinch tight and can be used to hang rods as well, like on hooks or nails.

I went to our fly shop today, tried one on and found that, even all the way out, it rides too high to see into the pack for me. Going to try a hip pack. Any ideas?

I have one of the Umpqua hip packs I use for my drift fishing gear. That way I can wear that on my lower back and still use the chest pack.

We noticed that there is an Umpqua label on the front of your old chest pack that appears to have the ability to wrap a velcro go pro mat. True?

The label strap allows a GoPro clip, yes.

Hi Rage Fishing. Just picked up the same bag and noticed right away the shoulder straps seem to have a design defect where the straps roll up......and you can see it in 6:46 of your video. The straps don't sit flush on your upper chest / shoulders. After a few uses, do your straps still flare up? Really bothers me. Thanks. Patrick

If you watch that clip again, you’ll see the ends of the front straps weren’t tucked into the pockets in the back portion, which causes them to lay flat. Also, this was brand new, unworn, so it was still a tad stiff like any new item would be. Check out the beginning of this video, which was from my last trip of the year. It shows the straps lay flat. I tried one on today and, even adjusted all the way out, it felt too close to my face. Your thought?

They are designed to be above water level when wading. I have mine on the second notch down, so pretty high. If I put mine on the last slot, it would be down in my mid torso, which is too low in my opinion. You might check out the waist packs and see if they fit you better. I prefer a chest pack, but they do work well too.

Apologies, I thought I had that listed in the description field. I know have the link below. To keep the backpack mount at that top of that front strap, you’ll need some spacers which I added a link for those as well. Works pretty slick!

@@nbe386 no worries! Ask as many questions as you want. We are camping and have marginal service, so I’ll have to watch when I get home to find out what you mean. I use that tippet holder on the front for a Velcro attached backpack strap mount for my GoPro. Works like a charm for filming.
