Umps don't pause the game for rain and chaos ensues, a breakdown 

I've seen umps tell players to go to the dugout and stay there for 15 minutes for a passing rainstorm like this. That was BS what the umps did here.

Prolly way harder to grip a wet softball than a wet baseball too

What’s the downside for pausing a game for 10 minutes? Send everyone to the dugouts and wait a few minutes. Crazy.

Pitcher should have pulled the Lucas Sims and throw every ball back to the umpire for a new one until the game was delayed

Actually smart for the coaches and catcher to get ejected and the team rushing the field, causing as much delay as possible (including the one that came back). That allowed the rain storm to pass.... if they'd continued just pitching who knows how many wild balls could've been thrown.

Umpires fucked up, plain and simple

SEC Baseball tornament several years ago, it was pouring rain and they still made Georgia pitch the top 1 where they gave up several runs. Then called a rain delay and let LSU pitch the bottom 1 after it had passed. Never recovered from that soggy half inning.

The thing hes talking about at 4:00. Left girl put ball in right girls glove. Right girl didnt notice. When she puts her hand out for the ball, left girl taps her glove to let her know she already has the ball.

It's low-key genius to start a melee and a scuffle with the ump during the rain and buy yourself some time for it to pass through. I see what you're doing coach.

I love these breakdowns especially when you analyze the handshakes or glove pats or whatever.

It’s always a shame when the umpires are idiots and the cause of incidents like this. The three pitch rain may have been a catalyst, but it was not the cause. The umpires having very poor judgement was the cause. Then the failure to call two strikes strikes, probably because the umpire was all out of sorts and arrogant. These guys should not be allowed to umpire another game.

They would have stopped the game if the home team was fielding

I watched this live and was pretty happy with California winning this, (even though I am a Ducks fan) since the umps screwed them in one inning and the rain stopped just as California was ending that inning. Louisiana only got a run because the ump did not want to halt the game during a downpour, which he definitely should have but his ego was too bruised from wanting to play on the first time he gave the ball back.

Seeing those obnoxious fans who were taunting the ejected coach lose was very satisfying.

I coach high school softball. Last season we had to play a whole game in the rain. It was terrible. Three coaches and we had a system going where after every pitch, pitcher calls time, throws the ball in, get a new one, then we dry out the used one with 3 on reserve. Longest game I’ve ever coached, it was about 3 hours.

Amazing. If the rain is passing through in a couple of minutes, then just wait a couple of minutes.

From what I read this was a double header, and Cal lost the first game like 8-0. Before that during the national anthem some of the Cal players were kneeling, and the some of the crowd was yelling "stand up", "liberal wokeness", and lots of boos. At least one person in the crowd was trying to get people to stop yelling at the players. So there was some bad blood right from the beginning. I was just at an SDSU Minnesota game, and a couple of the Minnesota fans were being pretty rude. They were heckling the umpire the whole game. When there was a minor delay in adding a point to the score board, a man was yelling "they can't do math in California because of common core". I took my 9 and 6 year old daughters to see this game. We still had fun, but it sets a really bad example to have parents and fans acting like this. I have been a softball coach for 1 year now and we have only had 1 incident of a parent behaving really badly, but when it happens it really ruins the atmosphere of camaraderie and good sportsmanship for the kids. Having grown up playing baseball as a kid, one of the things I really like about softball is the atmosphere has generally been a lot more positive between opposing teams. We always tell our kids that softball is a community and we should treat all these other girls with respect. You might even be on a team with them one day.

It doesn’t matter the sport, gender, or level of play: “Let’s goooo!!!” is universal 🙌

What a real shocker that ULL fans (not Louisiana, but UL-Lafayette) are hooping and hollering for a coach gets thrown out for wanting whats best for the safety of everyone on the field…. Nice to see Cal come out on top after that fiasco.

this game started by the cal players being heckled by the opposing fans because some of them took a knee during the national anthem. Emotions high in this one.

I played baseball at a pretty high level before I hung up the cleats. And I’m in Florida, I can’t tell you how many times we’d go sit in the dugout for 5-45 minutes to wait for a storm to pass. This is just the ump wanting the game to be over in the bottom of the 7th

I can attest playing softball in the rain SUUUUCKS. Catching a throw sucks, holding the ball sucks, batting sucks. It ask hurts. But it makes for some awesome highlight reels.

Explanation on the mysterious handshake at 4:15 - softball players (I’m not sure about baseball) usually shake/dap hands first and then tap gloves below. The reason this time looked funky was because the pitcher was a lefty so hand touched glove and hand touched glove
