I concur . We lived out west so had to do with carlsbad, saddleback and the LA memorial coliseum.. Unadilla was the premier mx track in america. Mammoth in California is the only thing close.

This was in 1982 the year Danny LaPorte (#31) won the 250cc World Motocross Championship.

Yep. At 4:29 you can see Laporte is using the air cooled Yamaha, (81), but just a few seconds later a yellow Yamaha #33, (Johnson?) lines up and is running the top heavy radiator. We know this is 1982, because nobody ever ran that bike in 81 or 83, and some would not ride it in 82. But 82 was Yamaha's first "production" water cooled. They made some in the 70's for their racers, but I think Yamaha lost one to a silly "claim rule", where a loser could claim a works bike and steal it from the factory. It was some of the first socialism in USA Motocross.

@@EarthSurferUSA Laport and Glover had works bikes and air cooled. Johnson was full factory too. I have no idea why he chose the terrible production bike. I'm from PA we were there, all the GPs

@@EarthSurferUSA Not to worry. It was MartyTripes bike that was claimed (1978 I think). The manufacturers all complained to the AMA and the rule disappeared.
