I’m split on curb/dumpster finds. I’m upset how much of a throwaway society we have become. But I am very thankful for major finds and gifts. Blessings all.
Globe-Wernicke Co. Ltd., founded in 1893, was an American furniture company based in Cincinnati, Ohio. On eBay, barrister bookcases (with base) similar to yours lists for $1200-$1500. A great find. It's deserved a special spot in your home to match the story of how you found it on the side of the road.
Doug could type up a nice note of how he found it, how he and Maverick brought home and, everything else associated with the book case…frame it in a pretty frame stained like the color of the walls, he could build the frame..put a pretty colored background behind so it stands out..
That’s our heavenly father‘s blessing to you Doug. He knows our hearts desires and he knows our thoughts . There has been so many times that He has blessed me with things I just thought of and I didn’t even pray for ,so that’s so awesome! I’m glad you found it. Thanks for sharing😊
Doug, I call that a “God wink”. He knows you’ve wanted one of those… Maybe He put you there for that purpose…. I’d like to think it’s not coincidence. 🙏🏼🙌🏻❤️🎶
It’s a lucky piece to have found its way to a new home that will appreciate it for many more years to come, and will be well cared for as well! You can almost hear it shouting for joy!!
For 70+ years. I remember that my dad bought one in Chicago in 1959 and brought it back to Denver in his work panel truck that the whole family of 6 was sleeping in for the trip. Just clean it with the good furniture oil, mostly the wood gets dried out. You just won the antique furniture lottery.
great find dough, the original name that was patented for this model was the "elastic bookcase" but shortly after became a "barristers bookcase" I used to be an antique dealer and can tell you a couple of things, unless you really (I mean it) know what your doing I would advise for the top you just clean it , wax it, let it dry a week or so occasionally wiping off excess then just put a piece of glass on top to prevent more peeling and cracking, seriously good find I use to sell them for about 1500 to 4kAU and that was about a decade ago - go back to the house, they maybe tossing things out a bit at a time and you might just might get lucky and find the base
glass doesn't settle its water glass . mass production glass was poured onto a sheet of water on metal to cool and roll out which caused waves in glass in the 1800-1900
That shelf piece had a story before it was put outside. Sounds to me like the new story of this old piece will be a long lasting memory and a moment ur family will cherish. It’s always about those special moments.
Wow ! What a find ! Not only because you've wanted one, but because it is is great shape ! The glass is pristine, the wood is gorgeous and the brass is the icing on the cake
It's true what they say...... One man's junk is TRULY one man's treasure! That's an outstanding find, and goes with your home perfectly!!! Good for you! 🥰
What is the saying? One man's trash is another man's treasure. And what a treasure it is. Congratulations on finding such a beautiful piece. Please share once your restoration is done. Great find!
I'm so really happy for you, Doug because you know I don't know if I've ever seen you this excited about anything and you deserve with all the hard-working and all the stuff you do do and do have a find, like that in your life and it is a find and it is a wonderful find because you're ready for it you have what you want 2 put in it and I'm just really tickled that you're so tickled...
What a blessing, to receive for free such a precious treasure. Doug, I love the sparkle of pure joy in your eyes as you share with us this amazing find.
The wavy glass is part of the worth for the Barrister bookshelf. I have mine from my husband’s great grandparents circa 1800’s. Ours has sentimental value more than a dollar amount. It’s regretful people throw away things like this bookshelf but how truly awesome that Doug found it and rescued it! Enjoy the beautiful piece!
Congratulations I’ve sold a few of these over my 50 plus years as a antiques dealer, and typically the way you figure out the price would be $200 per section and 100 each for the top and bottom pieces. You are missing the bottom part which is the base and all the sections stack on. Good for you! Enjoy !
This item is a long life fine The company went out of business 1994. It’s worth on eBay $1,200.00 - 1 ,900.00. I have also been looking for this item. I just love you found. ❤️❤️
You Kids Amaze me!!! Thank you for such a PEACEFUL Busy Content!! I try to Never Miss your newest videos........Thank You for sharing your lives with us!!
Congratulations! That is a treasure-especially since you’ve always wanted one. Doug, I can hear the excitement in your voice. I wish I’d been a witness to your reaction when you first discovered it.
I still have the one from my Grandpa. A real treasure. So glad you rescued it from being trashed. The story of how you found it will be a family treasure.😊
why in the world would some one get rid of this beautiful antique , so wrong but hey their lose is definitely your gain ......... you will find a place to keep it safe and happy hugsssss
Nice find - very serendipitous. The base that has legs is missing, and you will be able to replicate it. Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us. Congratulations on your find.
I love your story ! Our house these days is virtually furnished with rubbish day finds . When a friend and I lived in London sharing bedsits we furnished with side of the footpath finds . She had travelled from Australia ,and I from NewZealand and we had not a lot of money . We found as you just have ,not only was it helpful but it was treasure hunting sometimes .Very unique items with a lot of personality and tons of usefulness. When my husband and I married 42 years ago on the 4th day after we met(😍🙀😧🥰) we had been travelling and our money was minimal .We immediately produced three children ,one each year, and most of our shopping was done on walks about the town with the children in strollers.we’d stuff a couple of children in together and use the empty stroller for transporting the treasures we’d found . I’m not too bad with a needle since when growing up Mum taught us how to make our own clothes ,and I’d recover chairs with fabric from second hand shops and so on .Your video has released a torrent of good memories for me . We use a great furniture oil product to revitalize wooden furniture, it’s called Old English. After a wipe down , obviously let it dry then rub it over with a cloth and this polish . Do it a couple of times or as many as needed, and the wood will be invigorated giving a mellow gleam. Thanks for a great video .❤❤❤❤
What a find! The person throwing it away obviously didn’t know how valuable it is. I gather the lawyers kept their law books needed for court on them and could readily find what they needed to argue a case. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.
That’s s what they were originally for back in the day…back after WW2, many doctors and dentist had them to display medicine bottles and medical tools…I imagine they were antique , probably to terrify us kids Lol..when I was a kid my dentist and doctor both had one.. my dermatologist has one he displays old medicine bottles in that he’s collected over the years..I’m glad Doug stumble on to this piece..he will appreciate it and give it a good home..
We had one of these in the little alcove office in our church and it was exactly like yours....it did not have a stand....it set right on the floor. And you got an excellent fine.....do use it and enjoy it.....don't put it away in an attic to collect dust.
Hi guys, Oh my ever loving goodness,,,,what a glorious find!! Oh yeah Doug the good Lord sees how hard you work and ask for little, he made sure you was the one to find this awesome piece. Congratulations my friend! God Bless ❤
I believe that is called "waterglass"...older windows have that look due to the processing . Awesome find ...you are so fortunate to have that in your possession.
Nice score brother it will fit in the decor of your home nicely. And as good of a woodworker that you are, you should build the base yourself. That way you put a piece of yourself into a piece of furniture that was built when men truly cared about what they crafted because it represented what kind of man they were.
Globe Wernicke barrister bookcase! They generally sell around $1800-$2400 for that size! And I know this because I collect pieces like that! Great find!
2 minutes in & I am excited for you! I know about these bookcases & your find is like the heavens gifting you. I get to enjoy seeing the rescue. Enjoy!
I have always wanted a Barrister too, I love them. Old ones are so very hard to find and yes expensive. So glad you found it to give it more love and appreciate it.
