Yeah the entire lower mainland is the Fraser river delta. Flooding like this is cyclical and has probably happened before....but...we'll just chalk it up to climate change.🙄
@ydro11
@ydro11 2 года назад
@@gergozichy2370 Well, sadly, it is absolutely normal .Since we have warmer air, it then,can content more water . That is basic of climate. Then ,when you add up the 1 degree warmer of atmosphere, you end up with aproximately 1000 ft higher cloud top. ,So if we add up both consequence of warming climate, we end up with way more watwr to pour from the cloud. That is just the basic of the climate. More water in warmer air,plus higher clouds to accumulate this water. On top of that, to create a drop of water, it take a particule of dust to accumulate water by capilarity around ,which we keep adding in atmosphere. Sadly, these flood will keep on getting to be more and more of our normality. You can search and verify what I just say, that is chemistry 101.

@@gergozichy2370 Draining wetlands is a partial contributor to climate change. The climate is changing. And this flood is not cyclical. Cyclical would imply that it happens on a regular cycle. Just because an event repeats itself over time does not necessarily make it cyclical. Cycles are predictable.

Prepare? And in which way should these people should have been prepared for something like this? It's not like it's happened before. Even if they would have been prepared they still would have lost everything. Everything is under water. This is no time for people to keep hoarding food and other necessities. With everything that's been happening for the past 2 years it has left all of us with less and less, everything is alot more expensive, people loosing their jobs, their homes and alot more homeless people. People need to stop hoarding until things get better for everyone. If it wasn't for the supposed Pandemic the BC people would have had all the help they needed in a matter of hours. I understand it's good to be prepared but, it's not always possible and especially for the poorest of people. There's more poor people now than there ever was in Canada. I certainly hope they will not rebuild there, there's no point.
@tabp8448
@tabp8448 2 года назад
@@caty9995 i didn't say HOARD. I said PREPARE!! THERE'S A DIFFERENCE. A go bag with important documents, enough food to get by for a couple days, seasonally appropriate change of clothing, extra car keys, etc. I know things are bad and I understand the gravity of the situation. I hate to be the one to tell you, but things are NOT going to get better. If EVERYONE is prepared, there are more people that are willing and able to help out their neighbors with their extras. Poor people can help to prepare with extra food with the help of food banks or growing their own food. I've been growing my own food, and have stored it appropriately. And yes it's bad in that area of BC right now, but i highly doubt other people preparing did much to stop others from buying the necessary things they needed. I KNOW for a fact, me storing foods that I've grown impacted nothing for anyone else, especially since I'm in the US. And guess what, THIS IS WORLDWIDE. IT AIN'T GETTING BETTER UNLESS WE UNITE AND STOP THE COMMON ENEMY WE ALL HAVE. Your comments are divisive and you NEED to stop. I hope you will reconsider your statement and hope things will get better for you personally. It starts with a better attitude. ✌🏼💜🙏🏼💪🏼🌱

I just went to the website for the Governor of Washington State and they declared a State Of Emergency due to severe weather damage on Nov 15th, that’s the morning that the flood waters rushed into the Sumas basin. An emergency order on Monday would not have affected the situation, the flooding was already engulfing the community. State Of Emergency allows certain powers, like expropriating property and expediting cargo. It would not have made much difference to the rush of floodwaters or evacuation orders, sadly.
@Jarod1941

Inslee declared the State of Emergency on Monday November 15th. Had BC done the same, the flooding had already happened. That said: BC Gov't knew this was coming. Inslee knew it was coming. There ABSOLUTELY should have been warnings. They have the Twitter, FB profiles to do it. They have ways to communicate pending emergencies. The BC government dropped the ball in a HUGE way.

Vancouver’s biggest issues is they are holding so much cargo and they have had to limit gasoline for the sake of emergency and construction vehicles. Also, grain from the Prairies and other cargo is not making it to the ports for export because the rail lines and highways are all damaged. Merritt has really been the place that has seen the worst of this year…the wildfires evacuations in summer and now flooding that is yet to recede. The entire town. Terrible.

I have most/all of my close relatives right under the picture in the film above. My moms old lady she thinks that she is the boss of everything and just signing checks will be enough. My mom is libel to get herself in big trouble because her bank savings won’t help her in a national emergency. Mom has a daughter who is my sister who is able and capable and she lives really close to mom and I sure hope that she has enough persuasion with mom and can help get mom the hell out of there if she has to. I think it is best if the whole pack of them all of mom‘s children and grandchildren get out of there and find higher ground. It has not begun to stink yet but this area is going to stink like hell beginning in the next couple days because there are tens of millions of live stock that have died in that flood. Livestock doesn’t just disappear when it dies in a flood it starts to stink and hit pollutes everything that area in the flooded part of that picture and lots of other parts in Southwest BC are going to be unfit for humanity to live in. I am only about 5 miles to the west of where that filming is taking place I am safe for now I don’t have any kids (except one who is the master of everything around him he doesn’t need me). This is Canada we don’t have a huge population…. The north western United States around these so-called Pacific Northwest is getting it really bad all of their productive land/farmland is flooded also the same as ours.

First I saw of the entire slide, in the sun. I just got home to the Wack (Chilliwack, about 10k east of that flood plane,) at 5PM last evening. Sitting in that cold, wet, windy, hot mess, watching my roads closures, at home, and away; then evacuation notices, a block east of my home, across the street from the river, was rather stressful. I was stuck about 100 yards east of that line shown in video, in my 53', needing fuel as my bunk heater had quit. Ran out the day before, however passenger vehicles don't have bunk heaters, and frost appeared on Tuesday forward. The pipeline people had the small towns rooms booked long before. Rail is out for months just to assess, let alone rebuild. Ditto for Hwys. We've one left, the Crowsnest. Remember the Hope Slide? Eyeah, THAT Hwy. Interesting times ..
@skyhunk
@skyhunk 2 года назад
Notice: -- the railways say they will have repairs done by middle of next week (CBC radio) and goods will once again flow east to west and vice versa. Goods are also moving both east and west via Washington highways and north again to areas in Canada not impacted by this catastrophe. BC has entered into a special agreement with Washington in which they will assist Canada's movements of goods, meaning in essence they won't delay trucks crossing the border. My sister's family in Yarrow was given an evacuation order 2 days ago. At the moment my thoughts are with farmers who have suffered property damage and loss of livestock. They will likely not be able to submit insurance claims because they built on a flood plain. It's simply devastating! Stay safe, Carrol!

Omgosh. This is heartbreaking. I pray for the ppl who are in this situation. I believe in God and I believe in his word. I pray for anyone who is lost to sin and I pray their eyes will be open and their hearts open to receiving salvation. I feel we are truly not long for this world.

So SAD & SHOCKING to see so much water. Just like overnight.. Here in South Africa 🇿🇦 Most of our dams are almost empty, droughts, animals dying fields become like deserts. Just goes to show. We need to look after our planet. Be respectful for what we have. And how to be prepared for our Future, Future and their Future. Condolences to the family and friends of B.C. ( Let It Be. God will have an answer - Let It Be. Amen).

It’s heartbreaking to see so much destruction and imagining the pain and suffering of the local residents of this area !! May you have the strength needed to deal with all this and the fortitude to push thru and not give up … hang in there better days will come … the darkness does not last forever after the darkness night the light always shines thru !! Many blessings to you all . 💜 On a side note the music you chose to accompany this report is absolutely beautiful would you mind telling me the composer and who plays it and of course the name , many thanks 🙏 💜!!

I think once once the cleanup and recovery is done we’re going to have to rethink some of the engineering around this valley… Around this whole watershed!! Theme so-called Pacific Northwest is geographically isolated I look at this as a multi national disaster… I think Washington state has 10 or 12 million people and BC has perhaps 4 million… and nested between the mountains in the Fraser valley are I don’t know maybe 5 million people something like that…. And the Fraser Valley area is where the majority of the population is in both southwestern BC and northwestern Washington…

It will happen again over and over. Its what you get when you build your farms on flood plains. This at one time was Soomas lake they drained it to make farm land water is just claiming what is hers and will again. Stupid people need to realize that you can't win over nature it goes where it was meant to be.
@azoreanblue7906
@azoreanblue7906 2 года назад
@@truthhurts5158 you are right it will keep happening specially since it was a lake before … nature has its own way humans try to tinker with it , they think they can outsmart it but eventually it will win . In the new stories I read there was no mention of the fact of being lake at one time ! Thanks for the info !!!

I've been thru 3 floods > lived with water covering my live electrical outlets, a foot deep, filled with filthy floating human flotsam, watched a 15 foot high by 15 ft. wide by 30 ft long chunk of family property break off & slide into the creek ( almost taking 2 pickup trucks with it), and fetching our dumb dog from where the creek carried him 15 miles away...I Really do not want to have to deal with a fourth flood, Thank God for His Mercy & Covenenants ❣🙏🙌🕊♾

Around 13 thousand years ago there was substantial flooding in this valley in ways that, from an archeological point of view, seem familiar to this. Around 0.53 seconds on the video there's a series of mounds in front of the farm that have a very unique and particular arrangement that just manages to stay just right above the flooding....

Thoughts and prayers!! The biggest problem is how do the engineers prevent this from happening again……. The root issue needs to be addressed first, and only then can the rebuilding happen…….

We have known about this for two generations and continued to talk about it. But there is no change to infrastructure or maintenance procedures. We just continue to take from the land and give nothing in return. As though everything is free. Then cry, complain, and blame. You talk of change. Than work on infrastructure change for a couple of years. Then it goes back to what you can take for free. Then it happens again thinking no one will remember. And the greed just keeps growing.

My heart and prayers go out to the people who have been affected by this disaster. So sad to see this beautiful area under water. I well remember camping in this area several years ago and enjoying the beautiful scenery. I hope some relief comes soon by air since the roads are washed out. Do we know what the Canadian government in Ontario is doing to help the provincial government with rescue efforts and dealing with getting resources to those who are cut off?

@Hezzey
@Hezzey 2 года назад
Does the Cultis river flow into the Fraser valley? I am sorry I don’t know just asking. The area near it to the southwest is really getting it in the teeth also that is called Watcum county Washington USA. I’ll bet you the livestock on that side of the Fraser Valley are also devastated and of course there are 1 million or more people that live on that side of the border, in the Fraser valley, also. This is a disaster the only thing saving us from it being a national disaster in both countries is that we’re both really big countries so our population and industry are all spread out…

@modtomidern All of the little Yellow Barns have been rounded up from the surrounding towns (like Yarrow) at the end of the corn season and are all back on the farm where they came from, beside the Trans Canada Highway in Chilliwack. Hopefully they will reappear next year. ♥️

Mother Nature is taking back what was once a natural lake
@carriad11
@carriad11 2 года назад
Certainly the damage and heartache is terrible but a lot more thought needs to go into the rebuilding. Much of the farmland that flooded use to be a tidal area, man made changes and mother nature did what mother nature does best. Bring in Dutch engineers who know how to manage reclaimed tidal lands.
