I bought myself a planer thicknesser - not the cheapest model on the market, but still at the 'affordable' end of the scale - let's see how it performs...
The two knob things have magnets on the thinner end if them. They are fir picking up the blades when you change the blades. Even when its time to change the blades you will find they are still lethally sharp. You use the knobby things to lift the blades our.
This is a really helpful review. I also appreciate your control of the volume and not being deafened with the noise from the machine while you were running it...I can feel an order coming on. Thanks
Thanks for the video, I have been looking at which one to buy for a while now. Just ordered mine can't wait till Monday. All the best and stay safe everyone.
Thanks for the video! I have recently bought one and test run it,, it's awesome machine and as you mentioned I was clueless about those magnets..cheers
Andrew Byron . I wasnt really prepared to do the adjustments so I took it back to Screwfix who gave me another no problem at all, I have yet to try this replacement, I just hope and pray it is not the same and has no other issues, . I will keep you updated.
This one scored quite highly on the customer reviews on Screwfix and Amazon, and my initial impressions are that it's a good solid machine for the amateur wood shop
Hi, been thinking about getting one of these for a while, had a second-hand dewalt but it had feed issues so I sold it to someone who'll be able to fix it. I cant justify £500.00 on a new DeWalt so might go for the Triton. I definitely won't be using it over my wife's flowerbed like you did though, she'd go apeshit, probably end up testing out how smooth my bollocks came out after a quick pass through the planer 😂😂😂😂😂
Bought this around two months ago and only set it up the other day, instructions? Dont bother as they are confusing but the quality is good and am very happy with it.
Yep. When you are changing the blades they are to lift out the lock down plate and the blades. You don't need to set the blades - they locate on pins so a really easy job, but very fiddly without the magnetic lifters :)
I'm ashamed to say I haven't used it very much due to getting distracted by non-woodwork projects. I can't really give you a good answer on this - sorry
Just took delivery of one of these and I agree about the clarity of the manual. The contrast level of the printing is very poor, making the photos on Page 3 very hard to decipher. Highly recommend accessing the PDF of the manual from tritontools.com to view the images and understand the assembly instructions. The manual doesn't tell you what the magnets are for to start with, but Page 8 details how to use them to replace the blade.
I hadn't thought of that, and now you ask... I'm not sure - I know that HDPE does plane very nicely, and I've had good results from the handheld electric planer, but it's a bit of a scary idea feeding HDPE through the thicknesser. That's how I ruined the sandwich toaster.
The Wrabbit it should be possible to get it as thin as veneer - the way to do this is first plane a scrap board flat, then fix your workpiece to it with thin double sided tape and run the two through together until the top piece is as thin as you pike
I just bought this Thicknesser. Most people say its perfect straight from the box. Well mine cuts slightly deeper on the right side. First time I used it I fed a 2in wide length through the Left hand side, then the Right side, lowering the head a tiny bit each time eventually the right side began to cut before the left side, Whenever I had planed the Left side I tried again until no more was taken off, Then put it through the Right side It always cuts again on the Right side. And the depth indicator is off about 2mm. I suppose Im the unlucky one. And snipe is really ridiculous..
AtomicShrimp There is adjustments can be made with the cutting head but I'm reluctant to try this . The instruction booklet is useless, cant even see the pictures properly they are way too dark. Im not sure what to do yet ,,
@@JIMMIX7 I'm having the same problem really bad snipe even in the middle of the wood plus the bed is loose and after running one piece of wood through the bed has an imprint of the support underneath! Not impressed! have you sorted yours?
@@AtomicShrimp Hi, actually, there is a small video clip on you tube where it shows 'how to change blades ' on THIS Triton Planer. Hope you will see it too.
