An unboxing, setup and first use of the Triton TPT125.
I have only used one other thicknesser before and that is my Dads Jet JWP 12.
I keep calling this a planner thickenesser, it is not it is just a thicknesser.
Once the tool is set up I put through some rough sawn timber and am very impressed with the results, after that i put through some "green" glued up cherry and after a few passes encountered some kick back, still not entirely sure what happened there.
I look forward to working with this tool in the future.

Im guessing the magnets are for removing the blades, so you don't have to touch them and cut yourself?

That kickback you got was quite probably down to the endgrain on that board and (I suspect) also having the cut set a touch too deep - with endgrain you really have to reduce the cut depth just take off a hair's breadth at a time otherwise the blades can really dig in. The fact it was still green and a bit sappy won't have helped either so all the more important to drop the amount you take off in each pass. BTW - If you keep using green wood on that, you'll get to know what those magnets are for very soon as you'll be replacing (or at least cleaning) those blades quite a bit more often than the average user. Great machine, though, I love mine.

Two things the Allen key is provided its attached to the machine !! And secondly you got kick back because you rammed the cut blocks against the grain to cut it simple beginner's mistakes

Thanks Robert for your comments, why do you think it only happened that one time if it was against the grain because I carried on putting it through in the orientation ?

The magnets are to remove the blade. Thee's a place for them on the side of the planer, right next to the attached hex key. There's also a little label on one end as well, telling you what the magnets are for. Agreed though, the instructions are crap. I've just bought one of these and am doing my own initial thoughts and unboxing video myself, so will got an have a look at your six month review as well.

@@peaceoftimber I'd be keen to watch it and see what you think of it now. Good to see another UK RU-vidr in amongst the millions of American ones. I've just subbed to you. I'm about to edit the thicknesser vido and upload my thoughts as well.

NKE ATV Hi Nke Atv thanks for commenting, sorry bud I have only used the Triton so can not comment. The only reason I went for the Triton was because I saw it in action and I was so impressed with it. The DeWALT seems good and I have not heard of the Metabo. Sorry this doesn’t help you out further

Thank you for the video. Are you still happy with this machine? I am thinking of getting a thicknesser (or thicknesser/planer). I will sometimes be working with smallish pieces of wood. Can you tell me please what is the smallest length of timber you can put through this? I noticed your chopping board wasn't all that long.
@peaceoftimber

Hi Alan It’s a cracking machine. I think the smallest I have put through it is still the chopping board I will do a follow on video soon about the Thicknesser and I will try smaller material

Chris Chant Morning Chris, I am hoping to take it for a spin over the next month it hasn’t been used as much as I thought it would be. Once I have used it more there will be a follow up review. I don’t want to put out another video until I have done my research. Thanks for watching

Hey guys just been using the planner again today this time 70mm birch ply 750mm long. Worked great. I did notice on the first past the roller tried to pick up the workpiece when it first entered the machine. No damage or snipe. From there after I made sure to push down on the workpiece until it was all the way through. My out feed tables are sadly still not built yet. While I had the machine out I also tested some other lengths. 300 x 75 x 18mm & 150 x 75 x 18mm both In birch ply. They both went through with no problems. The roller pickup was more apparent with a tall thin board. The 150 mm length board was more uncomfortable having the machine cutter so high with such a small length. Fingers quite close to the mouth but the 300mm felt fine

The plug converts a EURO plug to a UK 3-pin plug thats why it is huge

@peaceoftimber
@peaceoftimber 4 года назад
Hi Tredstone I haven’t filmed a 6 month review yet. I haven’t used it enough to warrant a 6month review. I do have a project in the pipe line which will require a lot of use so maybe after that. Thanks for getting in touch make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss any future videos coming out

Great video, I picked one of these up early in the week and equally impressed with it. Did you have any more kickback after that initial one?
@peaceoftimber
@peaceoftimber 4 года назад
Hi Gareth, I have not had any more “kickback” I was thinking about it earlier when I was using it on some 4” oak and I think sometimes the roller before the cutter slams the piece of wood to the bed if the material is not touching it completely. I found that with my oak it was lifting it up rather than slamming it down (my oak is a 4” cube so well under the recommended minimum length) I wonder if I came in at an angle and the cherry wasn’t touching the bed completely and because it was only around 2” thick the roller had the power to slam the cherry to the bed. I am going to monitor this and if this is the case I will remove the wings and add longer and sturdier supports on both sides
@knuttucks

Great review, really informative. Can you confirm the actual dimensions with the tables folded up please?
@peaceoftimber
@peaceoftimber 4 года назад
Sorry Knuttucks, I still haven’t got round to measuring with the tables up. The problem is only one table will fold up properly because the dust extraction port is on the other side. I am planning to remove the wings completely and install permanently fixed ones. I will get the measurements over to you next time I’m in the workshop
@peaceoftimber
@peaceoftimber 4 года назад
Measuring from the edge of the wing that can’t fold up due to the dust extraction outlet to the support of the folded up wing it is 450 mm

how is the triton thicknesser doing. thinking of buying. thanks

@peaceoftimber 4 года назад
Hi Colin The Thicknesser is doing well thanks. It doesn’t like end grain and I also need to change the blades. I am still going to create a cart for the Thicknesser to sit on and get rid of the fold down wings and install permanent ones instead. I hope this helps

The magnets are to change the blade. You pick up the blade with the magnet to prevent a cut.

Hi Brian Not perfectly I got a hose of my dad which had a step down attachment so I just cut it to near ish the right size and then jubilee clipped it in place. Just remove the hose from the dust extractor rather than the tool

Hi I've got the same thicknesser, got a rubber reducer from local plumbers merchants and attached 50mm waist pipe which was then connected to my cycloneic dust extraction. Works a treat. No flexable hose involved just two 135 degree elbows to allow for the hight difference
