Got this printer in 2013 black friday sale for $19 still going strong after 7 years. Had a problem with the rollers though. Cleaned them up and works fine again
Thank you so much....I almost got upset and called the place in which I purchased it because the slots piece to where I put in the ink cartridge was all the way at the left side. I'm laughing now but when I was all amped it wasn't ......Patience. lol! Thanks again for your help!
The desk jet2540 has issues mainly with connectivity but the two cartridge design is flawed because if one Color runs out the whole cartridge needs to be replaced . I also don't like it asking for a password every time i want to print from my mobile particularly if you need to print a page to get it . I will not be getting another one of these
I managed to get two on sale for $20 each on Black Friday. These work really well, but the color ink runs out fast, luckily they make a double sized cartridge for these, so replacing isn't as expensive.
"HP recommends that you plug your printer directly into a wall outlet to prevent any power issues" I think Mr Surge protector might want to introduce himself.
Hi cb2k761, I understand your concerns about wanting to plug the printer into a UPS or a surge protector but by doing so you could unintentionally create issues for your printer. A surge protector or UPS may not be allowing sufficient voltage through to the printer. During the printing process, the level of current passing through the UPS, surge protector or power strip fluctuates slightly, causing an inadequate supply of power to the printer. Please search for C00597016 on HP's home page or using Google search. Even though the document discusses HP Laserjets the information is valid for all of HP's printers.
@Beatrix Honigmann Yes, you can have the printer connected only by a USB cable. Please note that by having it connected only by USB cable that you will be unable to print from any of your mobile devices to the printer directly as they require a wireless connection.

Hi Ana Droste, Are you using a printer style USB cable? It differs from a standard USB cable. If you search for V7N2USB2AB-06F using Google search the first several hits tend to be for the major retailers that carry the product and have a picture. If that isn’t the issue please post back and let me know so I can help you get this resolved.
Hi Ana Droste, Thank you for the update. Please try searching for “HP Printer Install Wizard” on Google search. The first hit after the sponsored ads should take you to the Information and Download page for the wizard. During the installation the wizard will prompt you when to plug the USB cable in. That should overcome the error that you received.

I've lost the USB cable that connects the printer to my laptop and I can only use the wireless for 2 hours before it requires a password that I don't have. I am having a lot of difficulty connecting the printer to my mac laptop. I'm usually really tech savvy and have no problems when it come to hooking up printers. Just unboxed my 2540. Setup was pretty simple and straightforward. The wireless printing has also easily setup. The only issue I'm having seems to be the black ink not printing correctly. It's sporadic at best. After printing a test sheet...it seems everything is aligned correctly, color ink prints in solids but the black in seems to "fade" in and out as well as not completely the full font size. (Example: If the font size is 12, the black ink stops at 11 and cuts off the bottom.) @HP Printer Support, Please advise as to what I can do to get blank ink working properly. Thanks!

Greetings.... I already have had mine up and running for over a year... then it all of a sudden stopped printing documents .... I have done all testings, strangely, it will print only the email address on my resume{which is a document ... it will print everything I can find on the net, it prints out the test page just fine{black and colors are perfected, lines ect. when i press print the page with printer(HP) connected via usb cable, 0 document pending after taking off printer comm cable usb off, print the document, it shows 1 document pending still printer does not respond!!!

Hi Karen Williams, Currently there is no way for your daughter to print from her Blackberry. The HP ePrint app doesn’t support your printer and the printer doesn’t support the ePrint feature allowing them to email the printer.
