BOX CONTENTS
The box contains the Wei-Tech M4 itself, which is a current generation open bolt replica.
Also included is a 30 round mag, speedloader, a disassembly tool, allen key for adjusting the hop-up, a manual and a small pamphlet in franchaisen.
APPEARANCE
Everything that’s metal on the real M4A1 is metal on this replica.
The only plastic bits is the stock, pistol grip, adjustment knobs for the rear sight, and handguard, as expected.
The replica has a matte black finish, which I was hesitant to at first, but is actually awesome.
It is painted, but looks almost anodized.
The lower also lacks engravings completely, apart from the fire selector markings, which is a shame.
FUNCTION/TOLERANCES
Overall the tolerances of the Wei-Tech M4 are quite tight. Unlike some, who complains about play between the upper and lower, mine is as tight as can be.
However, the stock has a small amount of play in it. It could be due to the fact that it is adjustable is 5 positions, and such wobble is hard to mitigate, but it's barely noticeable.
MAGAZINE
The included magazine is of 30-round STANAG-style, and is charged with gas canisters.
The bolt locks back when the mag is empty, letting you know it's time to reload.
Like all Wei-Tech STANAG mags, this one has a dry-fire setting, which disables the bolt lock function. Allowing you to enjoy your gas blowback replica without collateral damage.
A word of caution:
the magazine holds a few more rounds than advertised, so if you load it to max capacity make sure to remove 2 or 3 BB’s before inserting your mag into the replica. Otherwise this might damage your nozzle.
Overall, I’m very happy with this M4,
The handling is realistic, the recoil is fair, and I like how the hop-up is adjustable from the ejection port.
As a bonus I’ll investigate whether this replica accepts real steel accessories, like this SureFire M500.
The value of this replica just doubled!
