DISASSEMBLY - WE M4A1 UPPER | AIRSOFT
I am done caressing the bottom, let´s fiddle with the upper.
Today I will continue my disassembly of the Wei-Tech M4A1.

STEP 1:
First off I remove the magazine and check the chamber to make sure the gun is safe before proceeding.
The only parts I won't disassemble down to the bare bones are the delta ring, carry handle and forward assist, since it is better to just buy the entire assembly if you want or need new ones.
And the bolt will be covered in a separate video since it is an intricate and complex part, in and of itself.
Two pushed pins later and the lower and upper are separated.
STEP 2:
Time for the barrel.
I unscrew the flash hider and remove the washer, plus the o-ring behind it.
Then I unscrew the barrel extension. If I’m feeling lazy, I can just remove the extension with the flash hider still attached.
STEP 3:
To remove the handguard, I pull back the delta ring, and separate the two halves. My gun is brand new, so the leaf spring is putting up a fair fight.
STEP 4:
The carry handle, on the other hand, is easily removed by undoing the nuts on the side, and pulling off the handle.
STEP 5:
To remove the bolt I pull the charging handle back about 5cm.
The bolt can then be pulled out.
Next I remove the charging handle by pulling it back until the tabs on the handle matches the cut-outs inside the upper, then push the handle down, and out.
STEP 6:
On to the front sight / gas block.
All these pins must be punched out from left to right, since they are knurled on one end.
I start with the pin holding the front sling mount.
Then I punch out the two pins securing the gas block to the barrel.
The final pin is the small one securing the gas tube to the gas block.
Before I can remove everything I need to unscrew this small grub screw, which allows me to pull off the gas block, handguard cap and gas tube, all in one.
STEP 7:
Over to the delta ring. Apparently it is held in place with copious amounts of threadlock. So after applying some heat, I use the disassembly tool Wei-Tech supplied to loosen the delta ring.
Then I unscrew it by hand
and remove it.
STEP 8:
Then I pull off the outer barrel.
Followed by the inner barrel and hop-up assembly.
I will get back to the hop-up unit at the end of the video.
STEP 9:
I open the ejection port cover.
This is done by depressing this detent from the inside.
then placing my thumb over the coil spring, and pulling the rod out to the front.
The rod is held in place with this small c-clip,
so if your rod is moving backwards, this part is probably missing.
When the rod is out, I can remove the port cover and spring.
STEP 10:
Time for the forward assist. Punching out the pin, from the bottom, towards the top, allows the forward assist and spring to get airborne.
After recovery, I present them to the camera, for your viewing pleasure.
STEP 11:
Lastly, I will attack the hop-up unit.
The amount of hop-up can be adjusted with this screw, through the ejection port.
But I will leave that screw be.
Instead I remove the screw holding the unit together, revealing the hop-up rubber and hop-up nub. These items are consumables, and need to be replaced from time to time.
When replacing the rubber, make sure the nub is on the right side of the barrel so it fits into the notch in the housing.
The cut-away portion of the inner barrel is up, since that is where the nub will interact with the hop-up rubber.
By the way, keep in mind that the tiny nub is a flightrisk.
That’s it!
Let’s end it with an overview of all the parts.
Note that I’m performing these modifications at my own risk. These alterations can go very wrong if you lack the skills, tools and knowledge required, and can damage your equipment and parts as well as cause injury on your person if you attempt them yourself.

Your videos are very detailed and informative step by step guide. If possible, can you make a video of GBB M4 Lower without the trigger box style. I have a problem with my AGM M4 GBB rifle. Its a broken fire selector and a spring w/ detent went out of place. I cant seem to find a video for resolving this problem... Great M4 Upper video... Kudos to you.

This is a fantastic series, by far the best I've found on YT. Out of interest, can this be applied to Western Arms M4's? I recently acquired a WA M4 carbine from a friend for a very good price, but it's been completely stripped down. I've managed to obtain many real steel Colt components that I plan on using in place of original parts to make it as close to the real thing as possible, but I have no experience with GBB M4's and can't find any WA specific assembly videos.
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic

I have been interested in comparing and disassembling many replicas from many different manufacturers. But since I have no sponsor and no advertising, I have to pay for everything myself, which makes for harsh, unforgiving decisions. I only buy what I can afford, want and absolutely need. But if I get some patreons and some funding that way I can start polls and find out what people really want to see, and then I can make it happen. This disassembly is only partially applicable to the WA AR's, but the best strategy is to find a video made specifically for WA, as to not risk mistakes or damage. For instance, I do not know if the pins on the WA are multidirectional or unidirectional, and if so whichever direction is the correct one. If screws are locktited in place, if springs are captive or loose, and many other unknowns. All I can say with certainty regarding WA AR's is that there are known knowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns.

This is really helpfull. What is the size of the thread on where you attached the barrel extension? And can you make a videos for modification for this gun? Like barrel aluminume, suppressors and red dot sights
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic 2 года назад
The barrel threads tend to be 14mm counter-clockwise, like most airsoft. Some of the early WE M4's did actually have clockwise threads on them, but they are rare and far between nowadays. Especially since they are cut for the old closed-chamber system. Don't see many of them around anymore. There is actually a modification video afoot. I was doing some research last week about a special interest of mine. Can't make any promises or reveal any spoilers, but thinks are in the works behind the scenes.

Awesome video, mate. I have a question. If you want to remove the front sight and put on flip ups, how does this affect the gas block tube? I’ve received my lower from KYAirsoft and assembled it with the help of your other vid, but the upper won’t arrive until Saturday. Just trying to get a head start. It has the RIS rail system, if that makes a difference.
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic 3 года назад
It does indeed affect the gas tube if you remove the front sight, since they are connected. You need to get a low-profile gas block if you want to install a free floating handguard or similar solution. I'm sure you can find the appropriate parts to fit your build.

@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic 2 года назад
I've never had any need to seal the hop-up on my replicas, since I primarily run them in CQB. But I guess it's worth a shot. Worst case you've wasted a piece of tape. But I do know that if you're trying to build a DMR or sharp shooting base, then the old closed-chamber system is the way to go. I keep my old WE M16A3 in the old closed-chamber configuration for just this reason, in case I need a DMR sometime in the future.

Hey! I have a question.. the hop up nub (that you mention is a flight risk) is yours solid? Mine seems to be just a hollow tube of soft rubber?
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic

I have seen both types. A hollow rubber tube, and a solid nub. There are many types of hop-up rubbers and hop-up nubs available, so it is a good idea to try a few different ones and find out which combination works best for you.

My WE M4 barrel has clockwise/positive threads (right tight, left loose) on both the barrel extension and the flash hider thread, but yours is counter-clockwise/negative. I had bought mine back in 2011-2012. Do you know if WE changed the threads since then?

I don't know why you're looking at a disassembly video of a GBB WE M4A1 in order to disassemble an AEG version. Plus I don't know if the manner of disassembly is the same for the E&C M4A1 since I do not own one. If you're having trouble removing the barrel extension on the replica, make sure you are turning it in the correct direction, and that you've deactivated any threadlock present before beginning.

Sounds like the pin, for some reason or another, may be inserted the wrong way. Can you see any knurling on the end sticking out? If not, then the knurling is sadly on the other end, and the pin was inserted from the bottom. Happens sometimes when you get used replicas.

idk why i cant put the handguard back together and my gas block keeps rotating around the barrel
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic 2 года назад
If the gas block keeps rotating then I suspect the pins securing it to the barrel are missing, together with the underside grub screw. The hand guards are also rather sensitive. If the gas block is not pinned correctly in place it could interfere with the fitment of the hand guards. Also make sure the delta ring is firmly screwed into place, since it could make the distance to the hand guard cap too narrow if the delta ring is too loose.

What washer do?? Can I remove it?
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic 5 лет назад
The washer is holding the o-ring in place, acting like a makeshift crush washer. It prevents over-tightening of the flash hider to save the threads. Think of it like a real crush washer adapted for airsoft. It is not vital, but recommended.

@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic
@SpecialWeaponsAndPlastic 5 лет назад
It is important to remember that the barrel extension is threaded counter-clockwise. So if you've mistakenly tried to remove it lefty-loosey, try the other direction. If you have a second hand replica, make sure the previous owner did not install a one-piece barrel. That could explain your difficulties. Maybe it has been threadlocked into place? Have you tried heating it up and then removing it using a heat resistant cloth? There are many, many aspects to consider. Plus it's hard to arrive at a solution without the replica in front of me. But I hope something I've contributed with helps.

The M16A3 is a good choice indeed. With regards to furniture you can check out my M16A1 video on real furniture. The same principle is applicable to the M4A1. It does accept Real-steel buffer tubes, so a milspec adjustable stock should be no problem. Withregards to handguard you can see my unboxing where I install a SureFire M500, so no problems there either. The barrel on the other hand is WE specific. Or, if you want to add some heft to it, you can choose the RA-tech steel one piece outer barrel.
