Bobby was 25/yrs old when he sang that song live on the Andy Williams TV Show. His mother was in the audience and he wanted to be perfect. And perfect he was. The studio album cut of this song doesn't include the G4 (G5?) note at the very end. It ended with a different octave. This is THE recording to have. Bobby passed away in 2003 but this song lives on. It will forever withstand the test of time! Why? Because "Class Never Goes Out Of Style".

While I am sympathetic to your basic point, I need to push back on a sweeping generalization of gangsta rap. For many of us, there are many songs of that genre that resonate emotionally because it’s speaking truth to power& expresses the anger & frustration of being forced to live under ghetto conditions &/or mistreatment by police & general marginalization by society at large. Having said that, I do agree the Righteous Brothers make beautiful music. Yes, there are those of us who love both art forms.

A beautiful song and a very nice reaction. Miller Charlie I would challenge that none of us are forced to live in ghettos nor are we generally marginalized by society at large. We are all endowed by our creator with basic rights if Life, Liberty and the persuit if Happiness however we choose to define it. These circumstances are the result of thoughts and actions taken either by ourselves or our ancestors. Please read or listen to the writings if Thomas Sowell. Thank you for the discussion topic. Best regards, Scott
@chemquests
@chemquests 3 года назад
@@scottlarsen2000 appreciate the respectful reply. I am familiar with Thomas Sowell, and I wouldn’t challenge his expertise in economics. I can only speak as a person having experiences as a child and young adult that made me very angry. I’ve been fortunate to have success but when I speak of marginalization, I’m referring to the very real unawareness most people have about how many parts of our country are like third world countries. There appears to be an apathy & even your response implies it’s “their”fault, without accepting responsibility for the society today of which you are a part. Many people are forced in the sense that they don’t see a way out, & Thomas Sowell has spoken about how Harlem is very different now than when he grew up, implying opportunities for others to replicate his journey, or say the upward mobility of a talent like Ben Carson, is a vanishing possibility becoming more remote. I am glad we can exchange ideas, and I also challenge you to consider the most effective solution to improve social & economic mobility. My comment about music holds that it is the real frustration felt by many that the country is so indifferent to their situation that is not uncommon. How can we make that difference?

Thank you so much for your reaction to this beautiful song done by Bobby Hatfield. I grew up in this time and actually went to the same college as they did in Santa Ana, CA. Bobby's range and vocal ability are second to none. This song was very carefully crafted. There were many very romantic songs back in the day. The Righteous Brothers rendition of Unchained Melody has a special place in music history. It has been chosen as the #1 song in the twentieth century above all others. Over time, there were several renditions of this song by other artists before Bobby to it to a new level. Your reaction to this music was very natural and you are lucky to be so sensitive. There are very, very few songs that can make the listener reach a new level of emotional feeling and many people actually get goosebumps listening to it. Many cry from joy. While more modern songs out there today have merit, I am hoping that you will listen to this special song many more times in your life. Doing that will give you peace and joy. I bet Bobby's singing coach said to him (when he did the final version of the song) 'If you sing like that, in front of an audience - I guarantee you, people will be raving about this, for years', and he was right. Here we are 57 years later, and it is still, by far, the best love ballad ever sung. A lot of the reactions we're seeing on youtube, are of people watching it for the first time, and giving us their opinions about it - but if you want a real professional, who gives a detailed analysis of Bobby's singing, then go to @ called 'British guitarist analyses the Righteous Brothers live in 1965'. He will even give you the notes Bobby sang (all 20 of them), when he performed this stunning rendition - no auto-tune required!

Agreed - You've Lost That Loving Feeling was the most played song on American radio and television in the 20th century, featured in the movie Top Gun and TV show Cheers, and best of all it features both "brothers" Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (the soloist here). If you are going to listen to the Righteous Brothers, you really should listen to the harmonies of both "brothers' rather than just one.

elvis did a version of the song, the live version was heart wrenching knowing his past lost and that he will be dead soon. but this is the best version of all by far.

The strings and the voice of the late great Bobby Hatfield made this version of 'Alex North's & Hy Zarets' "Unchained Melody" the greatest version ever!.

Now you need to listen to them singing, “you’ve lost that loving feeling”. It was the single most played song on the radio between 1965-2000

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and Specialist Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 16.

I think the music is actually better than on the studio version. Does anyone know what the instrument is just before the crescendo that makes that pa-pa-pa sound? It sounds lonely and the music is sort of limping along like a tired man trudging hopelessly in the dark, the crescendo slowly rises warning us that something momentous is about to happen ... and then Bobby hits us with his high notes and just knocks our socks off!! I love it ... I get more chills now that I did when it first came out. Probs cos I'm old and grey now and no-one loves me like that anymore. boo-hoo! :D

I was a young teenager when that song came out. Not even old enough to date yet. But that song was sooo beautiful. How can you not feel what Bobby was feeling when he sang that song. The look on his face...who was he singing that to? Oh so lucky lucky one. I am so happy to see young people getting to hear his magic. It was magic and still is. Thank you Bobby, we miss you " so much." Rest in Peace.

You can't imagine how much joy and tenderness this joy has brought me at many dance parties in the sixties and seventies. Usually it was played at or near the end of each party to top off a great time of slow dancing with your sweetheart. Even at my ripe old age of 74, this song still stirs the embers within this old body and takes me back to those days of "young love". Never do I get tire of hearing it and never will. Thank you, thank you and thank you, Bobby Hatfield

On a scale of 1 to 10, Bobby Hatfield's brilliant rendition of, "Unchained Melody," is a 15. No wonder Bill Medly (the other Righteous Brother) was kicking himself for allowing Bobby Hatfield to perform it solo.

I was 9 when this song came out. My friends big brother had the 45 rpm record, and we played the crap out of it! Also, it was one of the few songs that our parents didn't yell at us to "Turn that crap off" LOL! This song was originally written for the 1955 prison move "Unchained". Bobby put out this version in 1965. I do believe that night after singing this song, he could have brought home any woman in that audiance! Since you loved Bobby so much, you may want to listen to my favorite by them called "Soul and Inspiration". This is what we call in The U.S. "Blue Eyed Soul" God I miss this music! 😥 Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wsnj6FmuUp8.html
