8/8 rating system confuses me but I suppose I agree Anthony

we know you meant to give it a 10, just because of their name doesn't mean you should under score the album.

hearing the words six impala come out of fantano's mouth is so fucking awesome

Glad that underscores is doing so well. Loved Fishmonger so much

I wasn't the biggest fan of Shoot to kill, Kill your Darlings, however, I think that final rush of noise is the best part of the song because it serves very important narrative purpose. The song is about convincing a close friend not to sign up for the army because it would be like throwing your life away, and ends with that close friend in a war presumably getting killed by a grenade. The ending is essentially the narrator praying for the friend's safe return as the friend's ears are ringing from the grenade explosion that they are dying from due to the shrapnel. That's why I adore the most about this record, how most of the switch-ups in the soundscape are often intertwined with something in the narrative.

He put "You don't even know who I am" under "meh" on his weekly track roundup and now it made his favorite tracks on the album So happy it grew on him, I love that track

underscores has come so far. Since I was 10, seeing her go from edm to a full-on maximalist electronica artist is amazing!

The hype is so real that even resurrected Cal Chuchesta and no one is talking about that

I was scared for this review but I’m pleasantly surprised by the score! underscores is so incredibly underrated

saw her live last week and good LORDDDD hands down one of the most incredible and unique shows ive ever been to like. and just in case ur wondering what its like: i cant fit it all in one paragraph so bulletpoints --she hired a ton of her artist friends to do full blown background visuals for each song and theyre all fucking nuts it adds so much to the "show" aspect of the whole thing --every time she does old money bitch she makes the crowd get down during the bridge then jump up when the dance break hits and its fucking incredible (also she throws wallsocket dollar bills into the crowd while this happens which is amazing) --she has girls like us as her encore song and right before the first chorus the screen behind her has the words "OPEN UP THE PIT" in big bold flashing letters so. im sure u can imagine how fucking nuts this ends up getting --she turns off all the lights and brings this lantern thing out for every time she does ydekwia and every time theres a phone beep in the instrumental the lantern shuts off then lights back up.....u kinda have to experience it for urself its almost a religious experience --every show she puts out a content warning to the crowd for when shes abt to do johnny johnny johnny which is rlly awesome and caring of her i dont think ive ever seen another artist explicitly give out cws for their own song mid show i could add more but those r the main ones that stuck w me so uh. yeah april we fucking love u (also forgot to add she bought jane out as a surprise guest to do her uncanny long arms verse on the chicago stop which. lowkey thank god i wasnt at that specific show bc i legit wouldve been screaming and crying and throwing up everywhere to the point of fainting)

track 2 features gabby start, who fantano shouted out w his single “synth grass” way back in 2019 in a video where diy musicians submitted music to him

Fishmonger is still my favorite album of the decade so far. I'm so glad you gave this a review, especially a positive one. Hopefully Underscores gets some more listeners from this. Can't wait to see her live later in the month!

a bit sad that you didn't touch on the absolutely insane ARG/narrative aspects of this album, for me it brings the album up to a 10 and makes it one of my all time favs

THE HYPE IS REAL! One of the albums this year that I instantly fell in love with... SO DAMN GOOD UPDATE: this album is so much more than flashy and innovative production. There is so much profundity to its lyrics, the themes, the presentation, the character stories... It's really a modern day masterpiece. Thank you underscores :)

Wasn't expecting Fantano to thumb this one up, but I'm glad underscores got their flowers. Still spinning some of those Fishmonger tunes.

Im gonna be honest I think this is one of my favourite albums ever, top 3 at least but potentially number 1. underscores music has been the soundtrack to my life for the past 3 years and I love this album so much. the story of the concept album with multiple parallel narratives is so incredibly well pulled off it's insane. this is easily a 10/10 for me, an all time favourite that will continue to be important to me for the foreseeable future. geez louise is my new trans anthem

been a huge fan of underscores ever since she released about the kid who never left the house on bitbird so it’s kinda nuts seeing how big the project has gotten. stoked to see her live in cambridge tonight!

Uncanny long arms combines everything I love about Jane Remover’s lush, distorted shoegazey guitars & vocal/synth glitches. And the call back at the end to Kinkos field trip from Fishmonger sealed the deal for it being one of my favorite tracks on the album.

one very cool thing about uncanny long arms is that in the build up towards the outro, april sings "i dont want to die yet, i havent finished what im working on" which is then directly followed by the reveal of the whole song being an essentially finished version of an old demo she made called "inlaws". the demo is almost universally loved by the community so seeing it be used in a song is very cool in my opinion

After Fantano gave Mid Air a 3, I thought he would never rate one of my favorites of the year highly again, this was a pleasant surprise. This album deserves so much more attention and I hope this will give it to them

I loved Fishmonger and didn't even realize this was on the horizon until it dropped and appeared in my feed. But Wallsocket is an absolutely fantastic progression forward, I love this one even more than the first.

I wasn’t a super big fan of underscores, I felt that her old music was kinda bloated and not super streamlined, as well as just kinda being generic, definitely didn’t offer anything of note. This new project on the other hand has delighted me on every turn, with constant innovation and amazing sound design. Truly underscores at her best so far, I agree with this review wholeheartedly.

Duhhh(etc) is seemingly an interpretation/expansion of Waltz #1 by Elliot Smith off of XO. Took me a second to place it but man is the sound so similar. Tried layering them together and with some editing it would be some mashup magic if anyone gives it a serious go.

I will have to check this album out

Rare Cal appearance, expected to find a video of him dead in a dumpster on the Fantano channel by the end of the year to canonically put him away for good

Yeah I Definitely love this album, sonically it's super intricate also I think the story behind it it really something to behold as well all around I think it's beautiful culmination conceptually and production wise. I give it 4/5 🖤🖤🖤🖤
