My father is 72 and at the end of his rope. He has tried everything, every pill! We had 12 ambulance visits since December. My father goes to bed at 4pm. He tries. I cannot watch this any longer. What should he do? He is 72........too weak to do anything and in pain. Any response would help. This has been going on for years.........9! NO PILLS WORK. FROM MORPHINE SULPHATE TO HYDROMORPHONE!
Thank you for that. It really helps me understand what I’m going through. I have had an mri but not when my disc have been aggravated. So next time I will be contacting my physician and demanding one. This happens to me about 2 to 3 times a year and can’t walk or even bend over for four to five days.
Thank you so much for this video, at last I understand what may be happening with my back. I will definitely get professional help now and will start doing the yoga exercises you recommend and the traction exercise. You have given me hope and I’m very grateful for that. Best wishes!
You're most welcome Ann! I'm so glad you found the video helpful. Do let me know how it goes with the exercises. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Best wishes, Ashley.
I cant even stand up straight or walk anymore..all in 1 day.. I dont understand this. Im in so much pain and scared. I went to the ER and got sent home with a Tordahl shot and steriods for inflammation. Im scared. Worse pain of my life
I have had a pain in my lower spine after a deadlift. 6 weeks on I was walking down my hall and I got an intense burning, sharp pain in my lower spine. I can not move my body and my right leg is on fire. I am waiting to see a doctor. Do you think I have a rupture ?
Does it need to be operated on? Can it be fixed by a chiropractor or exercises 🤔? I have a bump in the lower back that doesn't hurt and I have no idea if it's what u r talking about. I wished that u can show a picture or a real person with that. Does it look like a bump?
Hi , I have daily lower back pain especially after standing for a long time. However doing the arch back stretches I think you called them Mackenzie only makes it worse. The only thing that helps is going into the yoga child’s pose which appears to be opposite of arching since it involved bending forward and rounding the back. When I do this pose I feel the pain as I breathe out almost getting worse, however if I stay with it, at some point during an exhale I will feel a gentle pop in my lower spine and immediately all of the Low back pain is completely gone!! Of note, I have poor sitting posture where I sit on a rounded back since this is most comfortable. Yet ultimately it is that rounded back forward bend that causes the pop and alleviates the pain. So what’s going on with me? Thanks
Helen that is a great question! Absolutely it will make a difference. A standing MRI will firstly show what's going on throughout most of someone's day when they are standing and standing will also add more compression through the discs and so you would expect a more pronounced prolapse in a standing MRI. Here in the UK though the majority of MRIs are done lying down. I hope that helps. Best wishes, Ashley
Thank you for your assurance that herniated disc will get better and we just need to give it time to heal. I have been diagnosed with slipped disc on L4L5 since last year Nov. It has pinched on my right nerve and I am still deciding whether I should go for surgery as I had alot of lower back pain, pin and needles, numbness, weakness in my legs that i can't even walked properly. I have been going for physiotherapy and it really starts getting better! Your video has truly described what a slipped disc is. Thanks for explaining it so well!
You're most welcome Venessa! I'm glad you found the video insightful. Great to hear you're well on your way towards recovery. Wishing you a speedy one! Best wishes, Ashley.
Really Best explanation. Thanks GOD for giving the knowledge to you sir 🙏 🙌 may GOD will always blessed your knowledge that you have. Soo interesting all your videos. Thank you sir 🙏
You're most welcome. I'm glad the video was able to shed light on your lower back pain cause. Have you tried any of the stretches yet? Please keep me posted on your progress. Best wishes, Ashley.
Hi.. I’m thankfull for this video. I’m 19 years old and I have chronic lower back pain. I took a MRI and it showed that I have a few disc bulbs that might be the cause of the pain. I can’t bend over, but bending backwards is no problem. I’m recently going to the physio, and he’s trying to help me. I’m not too good at doing the exercises as often as I have to do because I often gets distracted by something else. I’m a professional surfer, and haven’t been surfing for 3 months now because of the injury, because I’m scared to make it worse.. I’m so scared of this and it keeps me awake in the nights often.. I’m thankful for this video because now I have a more specific idea of how the injury works and how I can prevent it to get worse.
Im sorry to hear about your injury. I am a 40y.o active man. I first suffered my herniated disc at age 20, and it unfortunately remains with you forever in many cases. The trick i have found is that avoiding (like the plague) aggravating the disc, if you can keep this up for a year or so, this is when it tends to heal and i feel myself returning to full health. There is no therapy (ive never tried surgery though) that is effective. Osteopathy massage is the best at relaxing the muscles which can provide pain relief. I find Chiro pleasant at first but ultimately counterproductive as it creates new imbalances. You simply have to learn what triggers a relapse and avoid those activities long enough that the (very) slow healing process can run it course. I have always been an avid weight trainer, and have learnt that twisting under load is dangerous in my circumstance. Deadlifting was once a benefit to my posture and therefore disc, but in recent years it has become a trigger for relapse. I wish i had avoided a relapse for 3-5 years when i was your age as this might have allowed it to heal fully, instead i naively thought pain was gain and did exercises to try to 'pop' it back in. As such ive never really had more than 18 months without a serious relapse. I hope this was a useful perspective and good luck.
I slipped a disc six years ago. Had a terrible flareup in July 2019 and have been working really hard on healing, and then just last night it feels like it slipped again, but not as severe. Will this disc ever not be a problem for me?
Thanks for this video! I’ve been suffering for a year now since my fall at work. In which I had knee surgery. I had a torn meniscus a week later I started having pain. Went to the hospital they say I have sciatica nerve pain. I been living with pain for a year and now it’s worse. Thank God I go to the doctor next Wednesday. I know it’s something probably related to everything you spoken on. Thanks
Thank you so much @Islandtat34 ! I'm glad you found the video informative. How is your back now? Let me know if you try any of the exercises. Best wishes, Ashley.
Thank you so much for the information, I have been in so much pain and then went to the hospital where they did an MRA. I was told I have a slipped disc and listening to you has been things so much clearer. I will go to my GP and see what pain killers they can offer me and what else to do. You really know how to explain things clearly just amazing. Again thank you.
You're absolutely welcome @ Burco! So glad to hear the video gave you a deeper understanding of your slipped disc. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Best wishes, Ashley.
Even MRI machines can miss the problem. My lower back didn't look like it was that bad but after the doctor went in I definitely needed a fusion. Wish he would have fixed the other one that was close to the one that he fixed so I only had to go through it once
Yes unfortunatley with discs they can go in and out so when you had your MRI it may not have been that bad perhaps. Or if you were lying down for the MRI that may have made a difference. Anyway, I hope you're back is OK now and if it's not then I hope it will get better soon! Best wishes, Ashley
@@PrecisionWellbeing I kept trying to explain that I needed to have a MRI when I was in pain so it would show up but nonetheless where I was fused at S1 L5 feels great unfortunately I have 2 other disc that are hurting like crazy now.. they weren't bad enough 2 years ago for surgery
GOOD MORNING DOCTOR...WATCHING FROM ITALY..THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS VERY VERY USEFUL VIDEO..VERY CLEAR EXPLANATION LOVE IT..VERY INTERESTING TOPIC. I SHARE THIS VIDEO TO MY OTHER WEBSITE WANTED TO HELP FRIENDS TOO BY WATCHING THIS VERY USEFUL VIDEO..SUPER LIKE THIS VIDEO.
Hi Mary. Welcome to the PWG family. Glad to know you are tuning in from Italy and happy to hear that the video has been helpful. Do let me know how it goes. Best wishes, Ashley.
About 13 years ago i was operated upon for l4, l5 and recovery was very traumatic but I was doing well without any back issues. About 4 weeks ago I fell and I felt pain in right buttock. I was mried and it showed extrusion of l5 s1 but except pain and numbness localised to right buttock i have no radiating pain to leg or toe. Im asymptomatic. Is it possible? Im doing Ma amcanzie exercises regularly twice a day. Still I have little pain confined to my right buttock. Can I get better and heal completely? Im also doing walking and into my daily routine. Please respond.
Best explanation that I have heard on this subject anywhere. I was lifting some boxes in my garage and didn't really feel anything at the time but pain progressively started through the day. I am 1 week into this and have pain in my lower back S1 L5 area it hurts on my left side but the pain does not go down my leg it hurts most when sitting or standing to long. I also cant bend forward. I am going to see a McKenzie certified therapist tomorrow and am crossing my fingers that it will help me. Thank you for all you information.
Hi Jorge, You're most welcome. I'm glad the video was able to shed light on your lower back pain. Please keep me posted on your progress. All the best on your healing journey. Best wishes, Ashley.
After watching this, it has cleared up what the word slipped disc means. The graph- Laying on my back, I have no pain. When I stand up it isn't long before that compressed pain starts and standing in any style doesn't lessen the difficulty. I feel weak and slump. Sitting upright has a similar pattern. Bending down or lifting my leg up to put a shoe, just won't do it, I have to physically grab my foot and force it on my knee. Standing back up after bending feels like I'm going to snap my back. I've had CT scans showing some vertabrae shift.
Well idk know if it slipped but id imagne it and described how it felt was two 90° triangels stacked to make a square push the one on top push it i felt that happen
Hi I am 45 and i went on one of those kids obstacle courses on the water, i fell between 2 tubes that you were supposed to jump from one to the other, and my face and legs were held in place slightly as i fell through the tubes , as my back and body bent backwards so that it can fall down in the water. I felt a hot pain like it was 200F degrees. I thought i broke my back, but i was able to move my feet, i wasn't paralyzed! and i was able to walk. The first 3 days were painful but i could still walk, most of the pain went away, but now 3 weeks in I still feel stiff, and pain. I started taking ibuprofen and it helps a lot, if i don't take it , the lower back feels very tight and limits my mobility in terms of how far i can move in all directions. I will get it checked out, but just curious what do you think it is? is it muscle sprain? strain ? a disk problem? I can jug for a few min and i don't feel any sharp pain from my back, also if i bend forward i feel pressure on my lower back muscles like they are tight? pressure/tension/pain that limits my mobility. however if i bend backswords i feel a lot more muscle pain.
I am a therapist for chronic pain. I work specific movement therapy body to help the patient to get better. Your expertise about the compression nerve long spine helping me understand how to work with each patient better. Amazing stuff
best detailed explanation of this ,my doctor today said you have disc prolapse ,i feel numbness and pins and needle when i walk for upto 6 minutes or more and little sitting down relieves it, so i found your video very helping in many ways thanks a lot sir.
I have a bulging disk in my lower backI dont really hurt in my back I hurt in my hips and ciatic shoots down my leg and my orto Dr is all about physical therapy. It don't seem to really help. What should I do?
@@DingDong2-iy7vb got sciatica in both legs and waiting for an operation at any time now, got 2 slipped disc’s one prolapsed and has damaged my sciatic nerve 😂 I’ve just turned 27 had these problems since i was 24. Done it at work 🥹
Absolutely brilliant breakdown in a non jargon technical way, so many Different terms to confuse people. I am waiting for an MRI appointment but will put off surgery as symptoms do eventually revert back, but I've read it's a simple procedure in day surgery up to an hour to trim back the bulge? Is there a risk of further nerve damage during operation? I heard you have to sign an agreement before operation? Thanks
You explained so well that I enjoyed watching your videos and feel I am doing revision of anatomical knowledge which I didn't learn well at the College. Thank you.
Very informative and this is the 1st time I heard someone mentioned about if spinal cord does get compromised it could affect your bladder and won't be able to have the strength to urinate. That is something to worry about. Thank you.
Damm this was useful as hell really help prevent any severe probs love the donut analogy as it perfectly aligns with the colours of nucleus aha even custard one relates to those weird yellow nerves xD
@@PrecisionWellbeing No problemo, also do u think i have a pinched nerve/disc issue in my upper back as the left thoracic area is super tight and also the front where heart is? Ive been told its tension
I'm afraid that's not enough information for me to be able to diagnose what's going on. You should go and see someone just to get it assessed properly. Sorry I can't tell you more than that. Best wishes, Ashley
Thanks 4 ur video man love all the info waiting on my mri results injured from carrying something heavy from the floor hope its just a ligament or muscle tear im only 28😔
Hey Luis, I'm really glad you enjoyed this video and found it helpful. I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. Do let me know how it goes after your MRI. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Best wishes, Ashley.
@@PrecisionWellbeing i just got my mri but dr didnt even bother to tell me about it🥺 sence im with workers com and they dont deal with disc i dont even know how to read it😭
Thank you for this information,I had a patient that was really bothering me. Who was diagnosed with muscle spasm on both sides of the back muscles. The right side of the back got better,it's the lefthand side spasm that is slowly.
I have been looking to find someone to explain this to me! Just recently I was recovering well from the serve herniated disc issue and hit random bumps in the way to slow it down but getting better again and that chair exercise helped a lot!
I got a slipped disc at age 32 just by just bending down unlocking a garage door. I wasn't at home at the time and had to drive 27 miles home. The next morning I couldn't even lift my head off the pillow. I had to stay in bed for 7 weeks flat on my back. Never known such pain in all my life. It wasn't for anower 2 weeks before I actually got to try to walk.
I'm so sorry to hear about your lower back issues . Have you tried any of the stretches yet? Please keep me posted on your progress. Best wishes, Ashley.
I have I have L5 S1 there is a broad based left paracentral disc protrusion which is compressing the left S1 nerve I have been almost 6 months I try phisio lot medication is not helping at all I can’t walk more than 20 minutes because it gets very painful I went to the HOSPITAL and they don’t want to help they don’t want to put inyección or surgery they told me in one year I will get better but is getting worse now both of my legs hurts I have pins and needles numbness and constipated 😢
I am so sorry to hear that Ernesto. I do hope that the suggested exercises help relieve you of your pain and contribute to your progress. Please keep me posted. Best wishes, Ashley.
Thank you, excent video. I have been dealing with back issues on and off for about 3 years now (Im 25). Today I was sitting, went to put someting on the floor and felt an immediate sharp pain. Since then I have hardly been able to walk. My dad has always suffered from a 'slipped disc' and he thinks I might have the same problem. I was sceptical but after today I'm worried. Is there any hereditary linkage? Either way I will be seeking help now.
I am watching this flat out my back completely ceased up when I bent to get my hair brush 😬 I managed to stand up but it went from bad to worse 😯 My back went into the most horrible pain 😲 my body began shaking uncontrollably my teeth began shattering wtf?! Since then I can’t hardly walk etc The Doc says its a Disc issue 🤭 rest for me 🤗
Mine caused back pain, stabbing, burning.. until it ruptured, then it disabled me completely, unable to walk. The pain was the worst I've ever had and the rupture had compressed my sciatic nerve terribly. The surgeon said it was the largest herniation he's ever seen and the stuff glued itself to the nerve, very hard to peel off. Now a year and a half later same pain is starting again on the other side and I missed work because of it. I'm afraid it's preparing to let go in another spot but right now it is limited to back pain. I feel like I'm sitting on a time bomb.
I have had a huge disc protrusion in my lumber spine 2015 with multiple other disc protrusion, tears multiple disc degenerate disease and osteoarthritis throughout my whole spine. A couple of days ago I lost the feeling in my right leg which made me fall when I hit the floor I have a sharp pain go through my chest and down my spine. I can’t look down as it shoots pain down my spine. I have disc bulges in the t sections and wonder if this sounds like I may have herniated one of these discs. I am in a lot of pain and not sure if I should see my doctor. Any advice would be great thanks ❤️
This is really interesting and an excellent video! I am very curious as to how can the jelly nucleus substance be (retracted) pulled backwards away from the nerves by doing exercises? Once the jelly is pushed too far to the outer edge of the disc and compressing the nerves surely it would stay there permanently? how would it be possible to move back itself? would be very interested to find this out if you can explain this I'm desperate to find help as my poor Mum is suffering with this herniated/prolapsed disc and is in absolutely hellish nerve pain and can't walk properly also having awful leg spasms if she sits too long it's been like this for over a year now!!! since her back got damaged from her lifting a heavy planter in the garden (something she terribly regrets doing!) and she is now in crippling daily nerve pain constantly and having to use a Zimmer frame on high doses of morphine every day and she's losing the will to live with the pain :( she's tried light exercises and seen Doctors and Specialists who tried spinal block injections 3x times but they never worked for some reason Are there any other possible treatments to fix this other than Surgery? what's your thoughts on Prolotherapy to fix this? If you could you please give me any suggestions on how to help her I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts :) Thanks
yo I have like a weird vibrating sensation in my lower back spinal area, what does this mean?? It dosent hurt but it has me pretty worried. I can walk and move as normal , but when I stand, it feels like the ground is vibrating and when I sit its the same feeling but more intense. I fear the worst and just want it to stop and never come back .
Thank you so much for this in-depth explanation. About 2 years ago I got intense cold and I sneezed alot which led giving me very sharp lower back pains, I had no idea what it was, I checked the internet and saw cases of slipped disc but none gave a great explanation and remedy like you have done (I wish this video existed then), I took pain killers, the pains lasted for a while and hurt from my back to my buttocks especially when I walked to school, it stopped after a few months but 2 yrs later I have these symptoms again since I have cold. Do you think I should go for MRI scan or should just get started with the exercises and take drugs?
Fantastically conveyed, thanks! I'm waiting for my MRI scan...last 4 months have been hell and the first few weeks were so painful I have not words, still on heavy painkillers! Question I did an extreme amount of sport when I was younger, especially football, racket sports...could all this sport be a reason why I'm going through this now. I had 15-20 episodes but was fully recovered after a week, although in acute pain. This time its lasted for months, the pain was excruciating I struggled to cope!
Best explanation I’ve seen. Very detailed and accurate. I suffered from this pain. Losing weight, working out, and an epidermal shot helped solve my pain. I feel great now. Hint: don’t get fat, don’t have bad posture, and make sure to get fit!
@@spymaxninjacool1237 I had three and it felt like it was enough for me. Actually, the doctor told me that it will be three. If it still wasn’t enough, I could go back for more. If one or two was enough, I could say enough but I needed all three.
@@PrecisionWellbeing hi they said I have slipped disc and bulging discs one hitting off sciatic nerve I have been put on a waiting list to see a surgeon, I couldn't stand the pain any more nothing was killing it so I got dry needling done and it helped me going again on Wednesday for it, I had been sitting on my kitchen chair for nearly 2 weeks with a water bottle and cushion I could not lay done I can now after the needling but I'm still quite sore I can't walk for long till the pain gets deep
