The World of Ice and Fire is amazing. I think it is advertised a bit poorly, since one might assume it only compiles all the Information that is already in the Main Series into one nice package. Nothing could be further from the Truth. This truly feels like a History Book and yeah the Artwork in it is stunning. I'm really looking forward to Fire and Blood as well. You already get a pretty detailed description of the life of all the Targaryen Kings in The World of Ice and Fire, so getting an even more in depth look should be interesting
So are all three of the Targaryen short stories in a world of ice and fire? Does that mean I could buy World of Ice and fire and not buy the three separately
@@studiocigsplain8588 As a company grows so too does their workload. No company can just keep making games once every five to ten years without doing anything else, it's just not feasible. That's why they're making Cyberpunk 2077 as well. Investors need to see the company's revenue increase annually, which means you have to sell more, which means you have to make more. Eventually, they'll have to embark somewhere else so why not have that be ASOIAF's wonderful world of Westeros.
@@TunezCottage I agree with what your saying, but quality games take time just look at rockstar, the reason why CDPR takes so long is because they are a relatively small company with a smaller work force say then ubisoft which has multiple studios working and has the luxury of working on 4 to 5 projects at any given time. But the more I think about it a game set in Weateros would be pretty sweet.
Brale I wouldn’t recommend it. Fire and Blood and A World of Ice and Fire are just history books - it’s not written like the novels. It tends to help if you’re already invested in the world when you go into them. You could start with Dunk and Egg novellas, I suppose, as they’re pretty independent from the main series. You’ll miss a bit of dramatic irony but otherwise you’re good to go
whycreate Hey man. When I stumbled on this channel, I watched all of your "TSOIAF" videos within a day and can't get enough! Being a Joe Abercrombie fan myself (as they say "the younger George RRRR Martin") I have a lot of respect for your work and wanted to commend you on amazing job you have done! THANK YOU SIR! And remember! Thought is material.
Do you know if these stories, 'The Princess and the Queen' and 'The Rogue Prince' are fully included in 'Blood and Fire'. I have seen that one of the first chapters is called 'The Sons of the Dragons', however I could not find the names of the others. But as the first Volume of 'Blood and Fire' contains the Dance of the Dragons it would make sense if the two other stories would be included as well, maybe under different chapter names. Do you know anything more specifically? I do not really want to purchase two collection books with over 40 short stories, just to have these two from G.R.R. Martin. Thanks!
So like fire and blood but about the age of heroes? Or earlier? I dunno, as all the information we get about the world is from the point of view of westerosi maesters I don't think it could be very in-depth without George suddenly deciding to write as an omnipresent narrator. I don't think we will get a book like that or learn anything else set around those times except if it's important to the plot and Bran learns about it in the cave with bloodraven
i love how there’s a huge spoiler in this video now 3 years later for people who haven’t read and are just watching HotD and watching this to catch up🤣
I'm pretty sure the ending in the book will be similar to the show, but the road, if we ever get there will be way better and the ending will make more sense
@@Treasuure that's enough for me, I know Martin said the ending would be similar, but until the last book comes out he might change his mind and change the ending completely idk
Your video was in my recommendations, very nice and detailed video... I recently finished Fire and Blood and would 💯 recommend it gives a lot of details that the book series references to and I felt like I knew more of the world and the houses... I’m in the middle of the World of Ice and Fire book and planning on rereading A night of the Seven Kingdoms... I love the history of this world it’s amazing... the World of Ice and Fire has awesome illustrations and it reads like a history book it’s perfect for a nerd like me lol Great video looking forward to see more about ASOIAF
I beg... Somebody please make some video games out of this interesting world... So many maps and places... God it will be far better than pubj that's for sure... 😩
Before the show was made, The Song of Ice and Fire people approached Bethesda to make an open world RPG like Oblivion in this world but they said no and started making Skyrim. Play Skyrim and you'll see why. It is also very lore driven. They opted to make a show after that knowing that no other company could capture this vast world.
@@Roseyfinchartworks yeah ..i used to play that but its now nowhere to be found .Could u hwlp me with its link of all epispdes or something.I just played the 1st season years ago
This definitely helps! Thank you! I have the 5 ASOIAF books, The World of Ice and Fire history books and the maps, but I didn't know in what order to read the Dunk and Egg books, so, thanks!!!
Thanks for doing this, I have read a song of ice and fire series but didn’t know about most of the others. Now I have a bunch of new books to read and interest me intill season 8 and winds of winter come out!!
@@Brandonhayhew Dunk and Egg would be more like a prequel TV show which takes place ninety years before the events of Game of Thrones. They should most definitely make a movie or movies of Dance of Dragons or Aegon's Conquest. Now Robert's Rebellion would be more of a TV mini-series.
@@andrewforte3852 dance of dragons together with aegon III regency has material for 4 seasons at least, aegon conquest with the sons of dragons 2 seasons, and roberts rebellion wouldnt work unless we saw the mad king turn mad
There is alot of interesting good material to use, I hope future adaptations can capture such legends! Good to know that all the hbo show was just a part of franchise!
I read the main series more or less concurrently with the show, at first I overtook the shows pace by a wide margin, but as I got busier at school the show caught up and passed me, so busy that I have to re-read books 4 and 5 because I was barely able to read and nothing made sense as a result of the extended dry periods. I haven't done so yet. Since then I found the book containing all 3 dunk and egg novelas and the world of ice and fire in the *new* section of my library and immediately checked them out. I'd love to read the rest of the material, but I've found it hard to find and to know what's what and what's been released. So thank you for this video.
I really want to get. The world of Ice and Fire The Princess and Queen Fire and Blood And when the Winds of Winter is finished that aswell( i just pray that that the the amazing man who created all of this, the man we call George RR.Martin lives to see many more years cause he has an amazing talent
Thanx, I have just got into the books this year and have read the 5 books and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I'm awaiting on my bookstore to get a used copy of 'The World of Ice and Fire' (but did not know that they were available separately), and looking forward to 'Fire and Blood' later this year. I got super lucky and found an advanced reading copy of the original 'A Game of Thrones' which is an uncorrected proof of the book which was issued to some people and with a letter from the president of Bantam Publishing begging the reader to give the book a chance despite it being a fantasy novel (he was very much right to insist). It turns out that it is extremely rare and worth a lot, so all my rummaging at my local bookstore's warehouse sales finally paid off big time with this find, and surprised that they didn't realize what they had when they took it in, or the person who brought it there for that matter. I have it up for sale on eBay, but fishing for a steep price as I figure it will likely increase in value over time, or at least when the new book is finally released. If anyone wants to see pictures of it and/or the publisher's note that was included with you'll find it on eBay with a proper search, and there are only a few copies of it there so it's easy to locate, but mine is listed for $775.00 and is sold by 'thecaliforniacoyote' or the store name 'Coyote Book Lots'. Let me know if any of you think if this is more worth holding on to, but my eventual intent will likely be to sell it at some point.
So The World of Ice and Fire combines the three Targaryen short stories together and Fire and Blood has new Targaryen history and some indie from the short stories?
So are the targaryen short stories separate from "Fire and Blood" or is "Fire and Blood" a complication book containing all the short stories (Like "A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms")??
*Are the books available in audio books format? I want to get and read all of them but i'm really tight on time so Audio books are the only options for me.*
there are audiobook's as well if you don't always have the time to read the books yourself. It's good to put on while you are doing something else like cleaning, ironing, or driving somewhere. For people who find the length of the books to be a daunting task
One question, i have to buy the 3 short targaryan stories or the World of ice and fire. I find every thing of the shorts stories in the World of ice and fire?
It is hard and great work what the author done in the lat two decades but if i where in his place i would rather join forces with other good authors whom can detailed the work more and fast up the writing process.
Muheeb Kassawat I've read books where a famous author pays other authors to do part or all of their job before. In my experience there's a steep decline in quality, with the story feeling disjointed, or aimlessly wandering, etc. I wouldn't want for that to happen to this great series. I may be wrong, but I'd hate to find out.
Ratchet4647 maybe you are wright but JRRM didn’t use other authors until feast for crows, in this book he just want the reader to understand what did happened to westros because of the civil war (Danny’s visions in the house of the undying) and they only take care of few minor characters such as Braine of Tarth and Uran Grayjoy. For sure there is a better ways to give better work but if our beloved author didn’t finish the story (and you have to conceder this as the books take him know more than 5 years to be done) we might be in suspended situation where we can’t guess the ending by ourselves
The targaryen short stories is like the new book Fire and blood its completly diferent? Cuse both talk about de targaryen dinasties. Should i buy targaryen Short stories too? Cuse i already have Fire and blood. Thanks and GJ
2 important questions! 1. Does it matter in wich order you read these five books? 2. Is a dance with dragons the story of a dance of dragons (the battle) ?? Thanks for answering
The 5 main novels are the same story so yeah it matters how you read. Don't confuse the 5th novel: A Dance with Dragons with the Targaryen civil War which is called: Dance of The Dragons. The A Song of Ice and Fire series consists of 7 books: -A Game Of Thrones -A Clash of Kings -A Storm of Swords -A Feast for Crows -A Dance with Dragons -The Winds of Winter (pending) -A Dream of Spring (pendind) The prequel series of Dunk & Egg is published all together as: -A Night of The Seven Kingdoms The History of Westeros is contained in the book: -The World of Ice and FIre (the whole history from the ancient times till the events of ASOIAF). This is written like a Maester of the Citadel has written it. The History of Targaryen Dynasty specifically is now released in 2 Fire & Blood volumes (this has more info in the Targaryen Era than The World of Ice and Fire): -Fire & Blood part 1 -Fire & Blood part 2 (pending) That's it.
You read it like that: 1. A Game of Thrones 2. A clash of kings 3. A storm of swords 4. A feast for crows 5. A dance with dragons The prequels: 1. Fire and blood part 1 2. Fire and blood part 2 And then there is a huge book about the history of the world of ice and fire but also some other nice prequels
Should I get the 3 Dunk & Egg short stories & then A knight of the 7 kingdoms? Or can I just get A knight of the 7 kingdoms and not miss anything from the 3 short stories?
Sucio a knight of the 7 kingdoms is a compilation of the 3 dunk & egg short stories, it contains all 3 of them and you wouldn’t miss anything by getting a knight of a the 7 kingdoms
I have a question. Is the Targaryen short stories exactly the same in "the world of ice and fire" as in for example the novella compilation "Dangerous women"? ...Becourse I have read somewhere that "the original" is different. Is there anybody that have compared them to see if they are identical or not?
So if I want to learn and read more about the Targaryen family and history should I start reading the book, The World of Fire and Ice and then continue with Fire and blood?
I'm currently reading book 5, part 2. It's difficult to get through. He should have finished the story before the tv series. I'm not sure if I want to continue reading the books
Might want to start with the back stories and history before the main series. They make refrences in the main series that are hard to understand the weight if what they mewn unless you already know some of the history. I read the main series first and didnt relize all the other histories were out until about 2 years after i finished the main series.
I haven’t read any of the books.. should I start with The World of Ice and fire or fire and blood.. than the main series? Also which book has Roberts Rebellion in it??
the main series, roberts rebellion is explained there, but if you really want to read more about that, read the world of ice anf fire, there you have roberts rebellion
Is this the correct order for the song of fire and ice books? main 5 (2 to come) then a knight of the seven kingdoms (the hedge knight, the sworn sword, the mystery knight) then the Targaryen short stories (the princess and the queen, the rogue prince, the sons of the dragon) then The World of Ice and fire then fire and blood. Is that right?
Fire and Blood first then a hedge knight, then the 5 books of a song of ice and fire, the book of a world of ice and fire can fit everywhere, but for a better understanding you should read it first, the targaryen short storys are not needed because they are allready in fire and blood🤗
@@td202beats7 All those short Targaryens stories ”The Princess and the Queen” 2013, ”The Rogue Prince” 2014 and ”The Sons of the Dragons” 2017 are included, copy-pasted, in ”Fire and Blood Vol 1” 2018.
@@td202beats7 Fire and Blood is only about the Targaryens, starting with Aegon The Conquerer, It has dialogue and it”s focused on characters. The World of Ice and Fire is like a history book, it starts with the time period when there were no humans in Westeros. It talks about all the Kingdoms, all the important Houses, including a summary of the Targaryen rule (spoiling Fire and Blood). Then it goes beyond that, and presents almost all the regions in Essos and beyond, places that were only mentioned in the Main Series (There is even a third continent in the south) Fire and Blood takes a small part from The World of Ice and Fire, The Targaryen rule, and expands on it. For me, it”s the most exciting part from Westeros history.
@@td202beats7 Both White Walkers and the Doom are mentioned in World of Ice and Fire but their origins are unknown. Roberts Rebellion is just summarized in 2 pages, most of the information is scattered in the main series, Ned, Bran,Jaime and Barristan chapters I think. There is also a cool video on yt about Roberts Rebellion: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k1zsvHusfPQ.html&ab_channel=BazBattles
lily wankomo yes. Everything on targaryens plus some original fresh content on the first half of the Targaryen dynasty is available. PS its got illustrations too.
@Troy Crayson wouldn't the blackfyre's be in Fire and Blood PT2 because Daemon, Daeron, Bittersteel and BloodRaven are all sons of Aegon the IV unworthy, and he comes after Aegon the III's reign, which is the reign the book is supposed to end on, so the Blackfyre's will take up a large portion of part 2
the world of ice and fire its like a enciclopedia, there you have everything related to the world, everything that happened, from 12000bc until 283ac,fire and blood its the targaryen history in much more detail, but the first vol go from 2bc until 150ac i think
