I think you were thinking of kintsugi, a japanese art of repairing things with gold or other precious metals! Its meant to show that, even when something is broken, its still worth something, that it can be repaired. Both the breaking and the repair are part of the objects history. Or in this case, part of Phos' history.

I can’t help to feel that the cubic shape is a reference to pyrite aka fool’s gold. The symbolism of lotus as spiritual awakening is so flavourful here, before this arc, Phos want to fight, but don’t have the courage or ability to do so. After this arc, Phos have a need to fight, and have the courage and the ability to do so.

The hearts in Antarc’s speech bubble when they talk about getting punished gives a weird vibe, especially with the Cairngorm parallels. Phos does kinda remember Antarc’s request, but really twisted it, “I don’t want Sensei to be lonely, so let’s destroy him now.” :) In regards to Phos and Cairngorm, they were brought together by circumstance and it didn’t seem to go much deeper on Phos’ end. There’s the guilt of causing them to lose Ghost and how Cairn gave them Lapis’ head, but LaPhos and onward was hyperfocused on the big goal of dealing with Lunarians, it would seem to solve both their problems after all, heck, everyone’s problems that there was little consideration of doing something for Cairngorm specifically.

When you realises that it's only in chapter 99 that poor Phos finally understands what they wanted when its all to late. I am not ready for 108.
