The problem is Phos never actually figures out what they want until chapter 99 and after. Phos always has a goal or a short term objective fighting, saving antarc, going to the moon ect.. the problem is they loose sight of why they have the goal in the first place. Phos gets so lost in their short term goals its not until they are completely without purpose they finally forced to face the question of what they want from life.

Think Rutile asking if that was Phos is more a show of surprise than actual trouble with recognising them. The exchange in panel positioning of Phos and other gems would foreshadow(?) how they behave in the next few chapters, eh? We get a snippet of Rutile’s diary later, about how they could consider using Phos’ parts to fix Padparadscha. While the necessary events for this idea hasn’t happened yet, we can assume it’s creepy theories like that.

And there is the point of phos deifying antarc, so that they think that defeating a lunarian ship is nothing worthwhile

I think that at the end of the chapter phos asks who shinsha is because they are suppressing their memories of them, they cannot face them the way they are now or something

Now that the series has ended, I’ve gone online to find some others discussing this gorgeous and emotional manga and I’ve come across your channel! I hope to reread the manga from the start one day so I can analyze it and your videos are perfect to help me catch things I haven’t before. 🫶
