The "GREAT AL JOHNSON" on lead vocals! This is one the truly great soul sangers of all time. Writer, Composer, Keyboardist., he can do it all. I have watched him work in the studios, the brother is genious! GENIOUS!!!
Sing brother Beginning of my end used to tear my heart out I was 15 when it came out and today at 64yrs lt still makes me cry this was a big hit for the group They are Unific!
RIP Al Johnson. Soooo many memories of the Unifics' songs growing up in the DMV; the blue lights in the basement parties; the oldies clubs. Wonderful voice and still sounded great on this video.
My husband grew up with him in DC (he had a nickname but I can't remember it). His family moved and one day he heard that he joined the singing group and was the lead singer. What a voice! The neighborhood was shocked.
Every time I watch this it's like seeing it for the first time. They are mesmerizing performers, chorography always on point, bar none!! It's like I am back at the Howard theater, front row. Great memories!💜💜💜
As an entertainer perpetuating 60s/70s R&B Soul music, I give the UNIFICS the utmost respect. Young entertainers please take note. The UNIFICS are still putting it down like the way it was done 30+ years ago.
I saw these guy's back in 1970 in Greensboro n.c. at the soul festival with the mighty Dell's the Delfonics and the Impression and others I was 17 seems I will never forget.
So glad to see these old groups finally getting the recognition they deserve. Those of us that grew up to this music now have money and will gladly pay to see some real singers and musicians.
This is by far one of the best groups out there. I have used them and really hope to book them again soon. What a shame we do not get to see some of the true GENIUS GROUPS as much as those other types. I really will push to get them involved very soon. Just sorry I have not used them more. Guys keep up the great singing (Charlie and Al are off the hook). and the steps are just as sharp as years ago.
Saw them at the Apollo back in the day they would come on stage and all you would see is white iridescent gloves. The stage would be completely dark. They would tear the place down One of the best groups of that time you won't see any more like this again
chico1250 I REMEMBER THOSE DAYS AS WELL AT THE APOLLO THEATER ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY DID THE BEGINNING OF MY END THERE WASN'T A DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE IN MY OPINION THEY WERE THE GREATEST SINGING GROUP EVER TO TOUCH A MICROPHONE AND A STAGE.
Oh yes!!! Don’t know if these cats are the original group members But they sound just like the 45rpm that I was given by a radio host many many years ago. One of the best songs spinning at that time.
For sure Al Johnson (lead singer) and Greg Cook are from the original Unifics, and likely the other two as well but I can’t be sure. Sadly, Al Johnson passed about 10 years ago.
I had front row seat at the Apollo Theater never seen a performance like this just mind blowing fantastic showmanship master piece of greatness all the way around 👑👑👑👑🎩🎩🎩🎩🎵🎶🎷📻🎤🥁💯💯💯💯💯
I saw these guys at the Street Coner Harmony show at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC about 3 years ago and they took the show. Al Johnson still sound great.
Aaron, you should be very proud. Your fathers group was one of the few groups that, in my opinion had moves that were up there with the Temptations, Contours and Anthony and the Imperials. And, they sounded great as well. It is always so nice when family members chime in on these posts.
Saw your father at the Apollo the unifics are one of the greatest groups that ever took the stage. They could turn a show completely out, I would not want to come on behind them. They would always give you an outstanding performance.
The Unifics have gotten better with time. I sat and watched all of your videos today to reminisce your great talent. Absolutely phenomenal! Blessings, Avis Harrell
Saw Gregory Cook at the 6th Annual Classic R&B Weekend. He looked outstanding and still had the ladies going crazy. What a great guy he is with a wonderful spirit. I love the UNIFICS!!!!! For this reason The Unifics will be approached to be part of the 7th Annual Classic R&B Weekend in November 2013. Last time I saw them in Philadelphia at a moon Man affair they WERE OUTSTANDING receiving multiple standing ovations because the group is tight and Al Johnson is a genius!!!
Al I want to say God Bless you and the Unifics. Thanks for having The Camaros Band play behind you guys in Bethesda. So much talent in the D.C. area. The 60's were a hellava decade. From Doc and the rest of the Camaros
LMAOOOOOOO at them moves. Brothas don't move like that no more. I loved these guys and the Delfonics' routines. They had absolutely nothing to do with the lyrics being sung, but they were steppin' their asses off......GREAT POST
Mostly all the groups back in the day had some baaaaad steps.... The Dramatics, Dells, Temptations, the steps were awesome..... I tuned in to see the video and hear this great song while watching the performance... December 21st, 2014
Mayme Clayton I know you're just joking.... You gotta love those steps! New Edition today had trouble with Bobby Brown trying to do some steps... Bobby had to walk off the stage.... You gotta be in shape also... I like those steps.. I gotta see it again.... December 21st, 2014
Musical groups are our legacy. I for one are is thankful to the renaissance. Too many folks don't understand or respect vocal group. Those rappers couldn't beat any of the guys in the Unifics dancing!!
I remember you back in the day and pay d attention to the words of your song it was special but the beginning of my end did a number on everybody thank you for be beautiful artists
Love the video. Just saw them last night in Philly. They got a standing ovation. Took me back to the Uptown days. I just wish the profomance was done with the black lights so I could only see the gloves.
WOW ! Yes Betty , we lived in the old high rise Raymond Rosen projects ( 2308 ) W. Diamond Str, and mom would treat us to see these bad dudes and Delphonics too. We walked mostly or caught the #33 bus . Man , I really miss those great times !!!
this makes me feel young again--miracle. i remember these guys from howard from their first configuration--al, marvin, t-font-and michele. remember their rehearsals in cook hall--i even remember jubal. marvin used to call me and my (then girl) the king and queen. thanks to whomever posted this--sweet memories keep you young and make growing old a priviledge
Per: oldiesmusic(.)com/news.htm Al Johnson, lead singer of the The Unifics, died Saturday {October 26th} at the age of 65... Between 1968 and 1969 the group had four Top 100 R&B hits and three Hot Top 100 records; their biggest hit was "Court of Love", it peaked at #3 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and #25 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... May Mr. Johnson R.I.P.
@@lucky4724 # you got to check out the video in 1967... Same group name same song, they were just younger and had on green and white... They were off the chain!!!
No doubt about it, GAC(Guilty As Charged) such a beautiful and just outstanding singing- l remember this song growing up and this live version is t totally off the chain!!!!
Listen...!!! And Listen Good...! I Remember Seeing. These Bad Brothers @FABAIN in Paterson, N.J. Along with The Delfonics.... Lil Q-b And The Five Stairsteps And The Whatnots When They all were Young.. Thank You jesus For letting Me live To wittness The Best In Doo-woop Music
Just met lead-singer Al Johnson's widow this past week. Se was telling me how her husband was an entertainer but didn't tell me who he was until I asked because she thought I was too young to have heard of the Unifics. She was shocked when she found out I knew of them. Nice lady too. A real pleasure to talk to.
Delores Moses CAN YOU NAME THE BACKGROUND ORIGINAL DANCERS? I KNOW THE ONE DANCED ON HIS RIGHT IS HAROLD. IS GREG COOK THE ONE TO HIS LEFT? WHO’S THE YOUNG GUY IN THE MIDDLE? I’M SPEAKING ABOUT THE OLD VIDEO THET PERFORMED BACK IN 1968 I BELIEVE. 😂
@@ACCOMPLISHEDSHEIS I believe these 4 are: Al Johnson; Tom Fauntleroy; along with newer members Charlie Lockhart and Garrett Hall. Johnson and Fauntleroy put this version of the group back together in 2004. Worthington lef tearly in the 70s and Cook when the group split up. The "classic" and longest-lasting version of the group included: Johnson; Fauntleroy; Greg Cook; and Marvin Brown.
jimy0803 THANK YOU. I ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW FROM THEIR OLD 1968 VIDEO THE GUY’S NAME IN THE MIDDLE. THE YOUNGEST AND TALLEST. 😂. I ASSUMED MARVIN BROWN...RIGHT? 😂
The Unifics... The Mad Lads and The Manhattans all wore white gloves when they performed. They still sound good! There's nothing better than an old school slow jam! 🎶💖
I thoroughly enjoyed this...This was great! Youngsters this is how you perform..A classy group and that can sing because they are talented not manufactured.
@grifitti I used to see them at the UPTOWN in philly, Greg was in the middle and they could step,I have them on DVD from 1970 doin this tune,I might post soon.
I could not find the song “Court of Love” on Amazon Prime or iTunes! What’s up with that-such a great song that brings it home to anyone kicked to the curb in a bad relationship!
Palmarbeepee1. Please don't do that. Harold worthington has been passed way back in the 90's. I should know considering he is/was my blood uncle from birth. So no u didn't see him on no street. And to the person posting these vids thanks so much for posting I miss him and his mother(my great grand) so much. Thanks for the trip down memory lane:-)
