Thank you once again! I love U.C. whether it,s bright spark students or aging alumni ! Always get a fright when the gong goes off at the end...! And l greatly admire and respect Mr Paxman... many of us will miss him when he retires.
I note that Paxman was very clear to refer to James II as also James VII (Scotland), in a previous episode he allowed the answer James I for a question about the King of Scotland in 1595, who was at the time exclusively James VI- full marks this time.
As with the previous two sessions, I thought Paxman's Patience was severely tested. They just don't understand the game; if you want a high score, you simply must asnwer a lot of questions. Don't Dither On The Bonus Questions !! "Get on with it !!", as The Man would say.
I surprised myself with a total of four correct answers on this one! Guess I likely wouldn't advance to the semi-finals either. Haha! Thanks for posting these!
so, the whole Christmas contest goes for 2 weeks (10 week days) take off 3 days for the final and 2 semi-finals, leaves only 7 days for the heats, so it doesn't fit to have quarter finals. they just take the 4 highest scores, regardless of win or loss to play directly in the semis.
Because they were slow and played a decent opponent. Rules aren't very fair, I'm afraid. Especially since there's a potential for steep difference in difficulty from episode to episode. But your opponents especially will affect your chances of advancing, to where the two best teams could theoretically both be eliminated if matched up against each other and scoring around, say, 150 points each where they each would've bested any of the other teams if matched up against them.
Considering the questions were easier than for the students, and they have the advantage of many years of gathering knowledge, (since they were students themselves) they didn't do very well!!
Bristol should've had it - great captain, good wins - but I'm not mad I don't have to see Twiggs again. She slowed the whole group down by not knowing anything and giving weird answers that were not worth a thought.
