Unknown Pastiliere is fairly certain to be a smyrna type fig that requires caprification (pollination) so is not suitable for areas outside of areas with fig wasps and caprifigs. However, for those who are to grow it for fruits, it is considered by many to be one of the best-tasting figs.

The Unknown Pastiliere looks like it has Palmata genetics by the look of the fruit. But, it looks more ficus carica if judging by the leaves. Maybe it is a hybrid.

I don't believe so. Sometimes I think these fruits appear very much like Pastiliere. The petioles and leaves of the palmata hybrid I grow are very distinctive and these don't display any of those characteristics.

That looks great. Did you get a chance to read the link I sent you on the potassium intake? I'm wondering if you can minimize your potassium intake by not eating the skin? I'm making the assumption that the potassium is in the skin.

Harvey, I live in Sonoma county. In glen ellen up on the mountain. I’m just learning about figs and can’t find any info on if I have the wasp in this area? Do you think I would have success with a variety like unknown pastillere or should I stick to common varieties?

You should have wasps in your area or at least nearby and you could get established there.

I have heard of one or two people outside of areas where the pollinator fig wasp lives who have reported fruiting this variety. However, I think your time would better served growing a more reliable variety for your area.

What area are you in? Have you considered bringing in a colonized caprifig tree to get more pollination?

I am near Sacramento, we have an adequate population of wasps in our area. I do grow some caprrifig trees and there is also a large wild one nearby.

Apparently grown in AZ by Enlightenment Garden See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jlnb7LxXFLc.html. I don't believe we have the fig wasp here. So maybe it is a common fig.
