Excellent video, I'm honestly surprised this hasn't blown up at all. I love Marvel's Spider-Man - it is one of my favorite games ever - but it is certainly not groundbreaking in many aspects. A game doesn't have to be a "masterpiece" to be a fun experience, and I think you did a great job in making that clear, as well as suggesting some reasonable improvements that could elevate the experience further.

You know, what all what it was said on the video, it makes me think again on Bathman Arkham and how it really seems like this game was tought on that game rather than in a Spiderman game. On the Arkham games, you have different things to do and puzzles within those said things, in which you had to not only battle and use your gadgets, but also allowed you to break a little bit from the constant battle from time to time. On this game however, everything involves combat, and probably the strategies that you use eventually the player get tired of it. It really really show that they focused on Arkham because how of a staple it is for Open World Games, but didn't tought of making a Spiderman game. Just as you pointed out, those side activities for Spiderman could have been saving citizens, doing deliveries, expanding on Parker on the two jobs or with friends or MJ, things Peter and Spiderman could and would do under their scenarios and their worldbuilding...but instead, gadgets. Hopefully this is better take in mind for the upcoming game for all of those who want to experience the game, so it fortifies itself as a good sequel that improve on all of its aspects, instead of well...being "oh, is just Marvels Spiderman but with two characters now." Amazing review, and wholesome to include your gf gameplay beating that Skeletor wannabe. Blessings to you and her

The arkham games did spice things up with investigations and the riddler. I didn’t think anything of the time but, yeah this game is 70% combat 20% swinging. And 10% not cool stuff. MJ and miles missions really were wack.

I think I’ve played the story 5-6 times at this point and I agree with a lot of your criticisms of this game, the game was way too easy even at the hardest difficulty for starters. As for the side content I found a lot of it pretty forgettable outside of the Tombstone mission and just felt like game padding. Also the scorpion and mr negative sections felt ripped straight out of Arkham but at the same time I also do agree with you on the strengths you mentioned. At the end of the day it’s still one of my favorite games ever and I know a lot of the issues I had are things that spiderman 2 can improve upon

This is just personal preference but I’m a little tired of modern iterations of Peter Parker (tho it kinda started in the Raimi movies) having this shy, nervous, stuttering demeanour. People forget Spider-Man’s jokes come from charisma, it’s not JUST a mask for his fear. And if it is used primarily to mask fear then his nervous attitude should be near nonexistent in normal life dialogue after beating up killers and super villains. Furthermore if he’s quipping to feign confidence it’s weird that the delivery of his jokes completely give away that he’s actually scared. This isn’t the case with ALL his jokes but it’s a trend I’ve seen gain traction in recent years. All in all I’m just more in favour of Parker characterisation that verbally highlights his backbone. Not saying Insomniac Spidey doesn’t have one by any means, he has his moments and overall I think it’s a good adaptation of Peter Parker. Just that moments like him yelling “Pick on someone your own size Rhino” after throwing a massive concrete cylinder at him, are undercut by him backing away afterward and nervously saying “or maybe we could just talk it out”.

Honestly this is kinda an interesting point. I always ruled that under quirky dialogue, but ya have a point. But prepare for emo parker, the only character development where peter is a but head.

One of my biggest gripes about Spider-man games is that NOTHING IS TO SIZE!!! I live in Texas and downtown Houston is BIG! I mean looking at the skyscrapers gives you vertigo. I can only imagen downtown newyork. I want that life size feeling! I saw online it said that it would take spider-man 8 minutes to get from one end of brooklyn to the other. Where as in the game you can clear the map in 2 mins tops.

I was disappointed in the task master fight. I beat him soooo easy! I just kept pushing him off the roof lol. And yeah the hardest difficulty is still easy. You just take more damage and deal less. If they had taken your spider sense away and limited your gadgets and made you reload your webshooters manually, then it would be hard! I love how in the 90's cartoon Spider-man would run out of fluid mid fight or swinging. I would love the option to manually reload!

Always love everything you make and the editing that goes into your vids shouldn't go unnoticed. I really appreciate reviews like this. People need to have a healthier relationship with criticism. I still have fun with this game, but I think I accepted after multiple playthroughs that this isn't the greatest piece of Spider-Man media of all time. There's certainly aspects to it I think older games and comics did better. I think being able to reflect on things that you truly love and identify what's not good about it will make you love it more. And I really got that from your video. I agree with everything you've pointed out and discussed here. I certainly hope if one day Insomniac stops making Spider-Man games, that more devs can get to work and continue to innovate with this character. There's still a lot of untapped potential for Spider-Man in the gaming space that's just waiting to be realized.

I love the Arkham games, except the last one had too much tank shit! It was like every chapter fight tanks! But I wouldn't say Spider-man feels like Arkham.

I dont know what it was, but for some reason I never got far in red dead 2. I wanted to be a bounty hunter and lasso ppl. I guess I just didn't care for the story.

I love how you can make new yorkers hate you in web of shadows. I LOVE KARMA SYSTEMS!!! FROM FABLE TO FALLOUT 3! WE DON'T REALLY GET THIS IN GAMES ANY MORE! I wonder why? Sadly not. They have the options to change the time of day via a tablet inside of research centers. It does not cycle by itself

Am I the only one who hates that white spider suit? I think it's ugly, I usually use the OG suit or spider armor mk1 because again it reminds me of 90's spider-man lol.

As much as i love 2018. I was always confused when people were blown away by the swinging and combat of spiderman cause like u said, other spidermen games have done the same thing. While the story is original and fresh i was never amazed by the gameplay
